Is it fair, on this website...

..to tinge every celebratory day with sadness? Can't we just be allowed to be happy?

I'm all for sympathy for individuals when sad things happen in posters' lives, but why introduce misery to everything? hmm

Does it really matter if a particular post is made on a bereavement forum, or if it is on 'other matters' but about a bereavement? As long as the heading makes it clear of the subject.....which often a heading does not always do.

I do think a Bereavement Forum makes it clear on the subject topic. There is no need to go onto it.......

Most people don't take much notice of the 'forum title' on the Active thread - they're just listed according to last posting times. So no forum is really separate apart from by name.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Mar-16 20:06:43

I'm not sure why I would "be grateful" for it tbh.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Mar-16 20:05:25

In the past posters have managed to make sad announcements without such a forum.

Thank you kind words Leticia.

Leticia Sat 05-Mar-16 19:57:35

If it is a separate forum you can avoid it if you wish and you might be very grateful for it one day.

Leticia Sat 05-Mar-16 19:56:23

I think that a bereavement forum is very much needed- it is a place to meet people who have gone, or are going through the same thing.

granjura Sat 05-Mar-16 19:56:19

Easy to ignore any section or thread that you find miserable- truly.
Best for sad threads to be kept separate from others, like 'relationships' - so you avoid them more easily, surely.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Mar-16 19:50:35

I'm talking about the website as a whole. Not just "my day".

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Mar-16 19:49:39

I don't notice you ever being sympathetic to anyone Bags. Never!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Mar-16 19:48:48

Yes. You're right Ana. I didn't say anything at the time, but I don't think a Bereavement forum is needed. What's wrong with the all-purpose 'Other subjects' forum if you have some unhappy news to share. Or Even 'Relationships'.

thatbags Sat 05-Mar-16 19:43:35

Don't look at the blasted bereavement forum if it bothers you tinges your day with sadness!

shirleyhick Sat 05-Mar-16 19:43:34

I totally agree with you

thatbags Sat 05-Mar-16 19:42:21

I hadn't even noticed there was a bereavement forum. How long has it been there?

thatbags Sat 05-Mar-16 19:41:27

In that case the OP was even more obtuse than ever. Nobody "introduced misery into everything", nobody was stopping anyone else from being happy, "every celebratory day" was not "tinged with sadness" unless you (anyone) chose it to be, or unless it just was for some particular reason.

Your OP comment was tinged with unfairness, jings. Pot, kettle, etc.

Ana Sat 05-Mar-16 19:40:35

I agree, jingl. Gransnet managed perfectly well before without a 'bereavement forum'.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Mar-16 19:33:46

Nope! Sorry kitty your cod psychology is completely wrong. Nothing has hurt me.

anno think what you like. As you always do with your particular way of thinking. (which actually says more about you than it does me). I started this thread because I think there are too many miserable threads on Gransnet these days.

As I have already said - twice - I 'm all for giving comfort and sympathy where individual posters need it. But I don't like the general purpose "let's all be bloody miserable together" threads.

kittylester Sat 05-Mar-16 19:20:12

I agree with merlot and aggie. It probably really hurt jings and brought unhappy thoughts to mind. Sorry for the cod psychology! [hugs] and flowers to everyone who needs then at this time.

annodomini Sat 05-Mar-16 19:11:10

Drop a pebble in the pond and see how far the ripples spread. Eh, jings?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Mar-16 19:06:39

I am perfectly happy to let Gransnet sink beneath a trough of misery, if that's really what lights everyone's candles.

Enjoy. smile

granjura Sat 05-Mar-16 19:03:38

Yes, totally fair. The OP was careful not to 'tag' her sadness onto an exisitng joyful thread- and start a separate one, in the appropriate area.
No-one was 'made' to click on it.

Agree jane about rememberance and gratitude. Very moved by seeing wonderful photos of Carol when younger with here grand-children- posted by her daughter in that very spirit.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Mar-16 19:02:02

My God! Just come in, and 60 posts!

You sure it's me who's bored?

hmm

Much ado about nothing but some people quite upset.

Alea Sat 05-Mar-16 18:51:22

Three pages of much ado about nothing. Were you feeling bored today, Jingl?
