Your treat of choice?

I was asked what my "treat of choice" would be after a particularly trying time with DH's health issues.
This is mine - nothing too wild, but restorative nonetheless!
DH is in the Planned Care Unit of our local hospital today as an outpatient for another blood transfusion. As our (fortnightly) cleaner has just been and the house is pristine, my treat of choice will be 3 hours of either silence or Radio 4, Grace asleep in front of the fire, (oven) fish and chips and a cup of coffee, no red wine as I will have to pick DH up around 4, but a wee nap (NOT NIP) might also feature. I know how to live life or else I am easily pleased. grin

It's the little pleasures that keep us sane, Alea. My car has just sailed through the MOT for the third year in a row. What a team player!!

My celebratory treat is a cup of tea by the fire and the lovely thought that I won't have to cook tonight because the garage is next door to the village pub so we had a bar meal while we waited.

Perfick!!

Hope all goes well for your DH.

best wishes to your DH alea.

i think mine is a cup of hot chocolate, some brie and some crusty bread. Preferably with a book, and bonus points of it's hammering down with rain! Nothing like being warm and dry indoors when it's howling outside.

To have someone to cook a lovely meal for me and give me a large G&T while they serve it up and call me to the table. Then a couple of glasses of good red with the meal so I feel sleepy enough to go off to bed, read for 20 minutes and then sleep through until 9am.

Just in case anyone is thinking that I am spending an inordinate time on GN today, I am trying to keep my mind occupied so as not to dwell on my problems.

I hope it is helping annsixty - that's what we are here for wasting time keeping you company in good times or bad flowers

Alea and annsixty flowers

Since I retired, my life feels like one treat after another, and yes, I'm very grateful for it and realise that it could change in an instant. In my opinion, all the best treats are simple, cheap and based around having time to spend on yourself, or with the people you love. Though books, wine and chocolate feature in a lot of them.

My current (winter) treat of choice is a few hours to myself (OH works from home so getting the house to myself for a while is a rarity), a good book, something yummy for lunch and perhaps a couple of TV programmes on the planner.

A Persian meal - they have a way with rice and cook it so that there is a golden crust (Tadiq) at the bottom, fruit and chocolates to dip into, endless tea, a good friend or two and/or a good film/book/music. All followed by a good night's restfull sleep from which I awake feeling full of energy.

Sunshine, a quiet spot on a cliff top, an hour just looking at the sea. Bliss.

For me, it is time in the house on my own. I do need a lot of solitary time, always have. Fine when DH was working full time, his work involved a lot of overseas travel so my life had a nice balance, but since he retired, even though he still does freelance consultancy, the balance has changed.

Yesterday he went off on a rare business trip to Germany, back tomorrow. I have a bad cold so I am just hunkering down in front of the fire, watching box sets back to back and drinking lemon and honey with no-one to think of except myself. I am enjoying it.

The house to myself for 24 hours would be heaven. I'd make pancakes and drink wine and read.

I too love to get lost in a good book, ideally i'd be sat on a sunny Cornish beach with the occasional break for a pasty followed by a Cornish ice cream... perfection.
