anno Nope! MacSporran has almost mastered a rotten chesty cough (from which I've escaped) but I've been extra vigilant regarding hygiene because the virus would knock him flat. I feel so sorry for the elderly residents of the care home. To have to endure such violent internal eruptions, will have left the very frail feeling totally washed out.

I felt I had to read 'And Quiet Flows the Don' because my university gave Mikhail Sholokov an honorary degree the day I graduated. I made the mistake of trying to read it on holiday and it wasn't really a holiday read.
soop, just take it easy (as if!). Noro virus can be very nasty - I've had it twice and hope never to repeat the experience. I do hope McSporran hasn't picked it up.

I'm bowled over by the amount of cheery activity in our kitchen. ^You lot are "special peoples" (as our young grandson would say.)

I haven't been out for a walk. "The trots" of yesterday have subsided. It is, I'm sure, the Norus virus (? spelling). I will have picked it up when visiting the ladies in the care home (which remains closed.) I read up the symptoms and such on Google. Best not to visit the GP. Best to quaff lots of wine water. Best to wash hands umpteen times a day. Done all that. The bug lasts for no longer than 72 hours. I am feeling a whole lot better than I did yesterday.

As for all our Granspals with personal health issues to deal with...I send healing vibes from me to you and yours.

I'm in Tarbet...and cannot find your address. That's Tarbet just outside Glasgow. Oh! We then had to tell him that he had a further 100 plus miles to travel.

Pompa how nice to see you here again. When I'm in England I'm usually in the Blackwater Valley area but that's on the Hampshire/Surrey borders not Essex. Having had a quick Google I see there is also a river Blackwater in Ireland and Missouri amongst many other places.

I was going to make some chelsea buns for the first time today, but didn't realise I needed some eggs and I used all mine in omlettes yesterday. So they'll have to wait until tomorrow.

It's a lovely day here at the moment but with quite a cold wind. I'm sure there's nesting going on, so I'm going to put the dog's groomings out for them to use as nest lining. The blue tits seem to have taken over the bat box as a nesting site. It's quite close to the peanuts so I guess it's living upstairs from a takeaway!

The sun is shining here and the country lanes are full of cyclists! Just drove my friend home and it's like an assault course with them riding 3 and 4 abreast in some places!
Can't blame them being out though, but it's bl**dy cold and Lycra is very thin

I have a full on cold ( which I hate) so I am being particularly miserable today ( although the flapjacks might help Gagagran

Sam did raise a smile though last night , when given a dentibone , he proceeded to try and bury it indoors ! There was lots of basket digging going on and rearrangement of soft toys until the bone was hidden to satisfaction !!

He is the sort of dog that has an expressive face so I swear he was smiling smugly !

Hello everyone! Here I am with a tray of flapjacks - help yourselves.

DGS is coming for a snack after his U-11 football match this morning. DH has gone to watch, cheer them on (lost 8-2 last week) and bring him back here to wait for his Dad to collect him on returning from an overnight stay in London, before lunchtime. DD (his Mum) has taken DGD and her friend to a Vegan exhibition in Brighton. She's already a vegetarian so I guess will now decide she has to be vegan.

We pick up our new car on Tuesday and I am feeling a bit apprehensive about learning how to use all the gizmos they have in modern cars. I learned to drive in a very basic Hillman Imp and passed my test (first time) in February 1967 when doing hand signals was a part of the test. My life and career would have been completely different if I had been unable to drive but I still have friends who can't drive and have never wanted to. Their lives must have been constrained by that surely?

Soop - I hope your tum has settled down and you are feeling better today. Also that Macsporran has got over his chesty cough. I think we all need some warmth and sunshine.

Galen one of the first Russian books I read was "Quiet flows the Don" so you are absolutely right about it being a Russian river as well as the ones we have in Scotland and Yorkshire.

It is definitely Grace's rug- she is super glued to it.

Tizliz, over all the years that we`ve had pets, be they dogs or cats, none of them have been allowed upstairs..........till now, and this little madam is treated like a princess, so consequently behaves like one!

As for similar or same place names, there are several Tarberts and Tarbets around Scotland, including just around the corner from Soop.
We live in Boston, so when we`re in other countries we`re asked regularly if we`re from Boston, Massachussets, then there`s also a Boston Spa, before we moved here I thought it was around here, but it`s actually in Yorkshire......I think.

Grace doesn't go upstairs, but hounds have very thin coats and skin and really feel the cold, that's why they wear coats for walking for cold and also raincoats when necessary, and 'indoor' kennel coats if they are in kennels.
Sheepdogs of whatever variety are I expect much hardier, they certainly have much thicker weatherproof fur.

Well I have never had greyhounds and my Belgian shepherds live outside if it is not too cold - though they want the door open.

We had some friends visit with their two greyhounds, when they had gone I found that the dogs had been sleeping on our bed, spoilt or what? I thought they were outside with our dogs (who are not allowed on the bed).

for all who have been left to wait too long for an ambulance! It must be so worrying.
Our 4 hour wait at the eye hospital is a regular occurrence every month when my son has his eye injections! There are four different people that each do something different to him (and everyone else in the clinic) which is why it is so slow!
annsixty sorry to hear that your appointment was so futile. It's such a waste of everyone's time.
