Alea I don't think there is an English language equivalent, I think it is just 'lazyspeak'. 
It is fun to look puzzled and ask someone what they actually mean, they usually don't have a clue what to say and I don't think it just the shock of being asked the question.

I just received a birthday card from my one year old grandson to his 'very awesome nana' and I must agree with Barack Obama (in thatbags above hyperlinked article) that awesomeness may very well be my worst weakness. I simply can't help being awesome! (Apparently BO was joking and so am I but my grandson was not!) I think words are hijacked these days and become buzzwords. They are fashionable for a while and then they fall out of favour. Maybe 'awesome' will be replaced eventually. I'm not keen on the american word 'sucks' because it's rather an ugly meaning that's attached to it.
Speaking of overworked buzzwords, I love to read home improvement magazines (spend a fortune while not improving my home!) and the two that drive me crazy are 'pop of colour' and 'eclectic'. I hate them so much. There must be other words and phrases that fit the context. Argh! 
Finally, thatbags you are awesome for inserting a hyperlink rather than a URL link! Wow! Awesome!
