This has come up on the news and also on this forum recently.
We have just received a letter from the DVLC denying my OH a renewal of his driving licence because of his PD. This creates several dilemmas for us. We are both absolutely 100% behind the idea of licences being revoked if someone is not fit to drive. However, I think he is fit to drive and is very conscientious about road safety. I can understand why the DVLC might have made this decision on the basis of the medications he is taking, but it has been decided without seeing or examining him and I think that this is not as it should be.
We live in the middle of nowhere and there is no public transport within walking distance (or at least not my walking distance!), so I will be the only channel between him and the outside world. And he has become more reclusive anyway, so this will just compound the problem. I do understand that our inconvenience is irrelevant to the issue of whether he is fit to drive, but I (as someone obsessional about road safety) do think he is fit. The process for disputing this decision is complicated and I know he will not want to be bothered with doing that. In fact I think he is secretly pleased as he can continue to become more reclusive. Perhaps I should just let it lie and get driving!
What do others think? Has anyone else been in this situation?
