...if I ran really fast in the rain, I wouldn't get wet

...filling out forms was the most exciting thing ever

...that my mum had magical powers grin

What did you use to think?

I thought that Sea Horses were mythical, and were made up,, Imagine my surprise when I saw some, in an Aquarium ,, I soo wanted a Sea Horse, would still love a Sea Horse,,
Eating carrots would help me see in the dark, err no they don't! Eating the crusts off bread would give me curly hair,, well many years later, I have curly hair, but only because, it fell out in patches, after having my daughter, It was wavy(ish) but grew back curly!!
Pulling a face and being told that if the wind blew ,my face would stay that way!!

I still think if I sit with my feet dangling over the edge of the bed, something will grab them, especially if I have watched a scary film!! haha no hope for me,, And earwigs would crawl in my ear and live there!!

I thought that the three kings only had two kingdoms - Orry and Tar.

Rose petals - tick smile I could never work out whose story Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer was going to go down in ('You'll go down in his story').... It puzzled me every Christmas grin

I did believe that April Fools joke on the BBC programme Tonight, hosted by Cliff Mitchelmore about Spaghetti growing on trees in Italy.

Elegran Fri 22-Jan-16 22:12:25

Dad told me I piddled at the top of Tor Hill (Glastonbury) and it trickled all the way to the bottom and I made the pathway for everybody to use. ( Not the brightest in the pack was I )

Mum used to hand stich sheepskin gloves by the dozens at home and I thought we owned a shop.

Father Xmas lived in Bristol.

How on earth we thought Muffin the Mule and Bill and Ben were real Lord knows.

Bats get tangled in your hair when it got dark so you had to stop playing and go home. (Thank you sister dear I still hate the ruddy things)

Falconbird Fri 22-Jan-16 21:43:12

I used to think that a swan could break your leg with its wing!
I also used to try and make perfume by soaking rose petals in water and I thought that you could only get pregnant if you were married.

My granny's bed was very high too, but it had to be to accommodate the chamber pot she used during the night...hmm

Yes, rose petal soaking ( then leaving the mess for the fairies.)
Apple pip swallowed= apple tree in tummy
Chewing gum swallowed= a lingering death
Babies found under gooseberry bushes

Jalima Fri 22-Jan-16 20:03:19

I did the soaking of rose petals too!

DH tells the DGD that he 'has a bone in his leg' if they want him to do something energetic. They are wise to that one, though, they told him he hasn't! grin

downtoearth Fri 22-Jan-16 19:47:45

My godmother had a wooden leg..she said she did( and would knock on a wooden chair leg) to prove it.
My mum had an eye in the back of her head....mums always have eyes in the back of their heads she said ,and she always caught me out doing wrong.
If I sat on table the wise one (mum) said I would never get married ...little did she know am now on number 3 grin

OlderNoWiser Fri 22-Jan-16 18:53:51

... that one day I would grow up and know everything ... never happened, of course grin

Phoebes Fri 22-Jan-16 18:45:46

By the way, the grammar in the statement at the beginning is incorrect. it should read. ".....I used to think." Set a good example, Gransnet!

lucid Fri 22-Jan-16 18:44:28

..that my Godmother pushed her hat-pin through her head shock. I would cringe every time she picked it up.

Katek Fri 22-Jan-16 17:36:04

My brother used to think our father ran on batteries as he never saw him in bed! Dad was still up when we went to bed and up and dressed before we got up.

Marmark1 Fri 22-Jan-16 17:02:38

That I owned a horse and the school field was a ranch.
That the earth had been taken over by aliens who were living in tunnels under the street and could walk through walls: and my best friend and me were the only people who could fight them (gave me nightmares that one)
That our dog understood how I felt when I got told off.

I thought you had a baby if you kissed a boy (probably why I was a late starter re boyfriends!)
And I really did believe that if your skin looked yellow when a buttercup was held against it, it proved that you liked butter.

LullyDully Fri 22-Jan-16 15:58:02

Thought you had to water flowers and the leaves of plants until I found out about roots.
Though I was a fluent reader when my reading book was The Three Billy Goats Gruff...fab.
Never could work why the green hill needed a city wall ( there is a green hill far away without a city wall. )
Thought God gave you babies if he loved you and thought you were good enough.

Shirlmidd Fri 22-Jan-16 15:40:39

That the Daleks would come to get me! Spent my time watching Dr Who from behind the sofa.?

shysal Fri 22-Jan-16 12:56:45

I thought that Snowfire chilblain ointment would set my feet on fire. I used to become hysterical when the little box appeared!

AlieOxon Fri 22-Jan-16 12:04:00

I thought I was the only one who thought that about cats and dogs, Pippa !
