Friends Reunited is to close down.

I rarely look at it now, but it did put me in touch with friends from my Primary and Secondary School and a distant cousin managed to contact me via that website.

Have you used it ?

I did but not for a few years..

I found an old pen friend through FU a few years back. Not used it since though, can't say I was surprised when I read it was closing down.

That's a pity - why is it closing down?
I've used it from time to time and been in contact with a few people from my year - all men, don't know why.
I'm nearly 80 - maybe most of my peers have gone to pastures new!

I did join around the time it started up, and it was interesting reading the information given by some of my old classmates at Grammar School and one or two from primary school.

Then the format changed a few years ago and girls and boys from the two separate Grammar Schools were all lumped together (the schools were miles apart!) and it just got silly...I'm not surprised it's closing down as there are so many other ways to find old classmates etc. now. It was of its time!

I found a couple of friends through the site, but stopped using it a while back when the format changed, and it became very awkward to navigate round it.

My first ever boyfriend "tracked me down" through it! I was quite flattered.

I was sorry to hear it is closing but can understand why it is. Through that I had contact with school friends I had not seen for over 30 years and will remember it fondly.

Not at all surprised to see it go. More surprised that it's lasted this long, tbh, in the face of such strong competition. It was without doubt a pioneering site and I remember so well the excitement as I logged onto FR for the first time. But yes. it was of its time.

DH contacted his best friend from school a few years ago. The meeting didn't go well as, during the intervening 40 years, the friend had turned to drink, divorced his very nice wife, and married an alcoholic who had dropped dead. Neither side suggested meeting again.
