Eyebrows

Lots of good advice here. I had already heard about the thyroid possibly being a reason why the outer third of the eyebrow vanishing.Will have another check sometime soon on that.

I dye my brows with Eyelure brow dye as they are quite fair and in the summer almost disappear! I used to use the lash dye too but they've stopped making it due to health and safety!! My eyebrows are much sparser than they used to be but the dye helps and lasts about 6 to 8 weeks.

I have the odd spiky eyebrow hair too, 2old4hotpants. The spiky ones are white whilst the rest is still really brown. I fiddle with my eyebrows when I'm watching the TV (on my own!) and actually cut the spikey ones back so they don't stick out. Don't want to pluck them in case they don't come back and I end up completely bald! My individual eyebrow hairs are all getting longer, in fact the long ones are all I have left on the outside third, I sometimes get them dyed which isn't expensive, but its hard to get a pale enough colour.

Interesting to hear that Loobs, I've lost the outer third of my brows though the rest is still fine. Probably should get myself checked out.
I use a MAC eyebrow pencil which is quite pale but soft so it marks my skin easily - it has a very narrow lead which pushes up (no sharpening) so its simple to draw a series of short "hairs" to fill in the gap. Also have one of those throw-away mascara brushes (a bit like a Q-tip) which I brush through to soften the effect.
I have a fringe too so I don't bother with this titivation every day.

I've been using the Fabulous Forever Brow Shape for a couple of years. It's a small pot of liquid with a very fine brush which you use to paint your eyebrows. Because its so fine you can make your eyebrows as dark or light as you like and you can fill in any missing bits! The website is full of advice and videos for makeup for us older ladies! Not personally but do know a lady who has tattoos for both eyebrows, and eyeliner as she has no eyelashes. She looks good to me but she dresses in a sort of arty, hippy, billowy, colourful way anyway. Sometimes for instance along with a kaftan type dress she will wear a very colourful turban and big earrings. I always want to dress like that but don't have the confidence.
You can see that she does have tattoos and they suit her.

I'm very fair and have never had anything very obvious in the way of eyebrows though there is fair hair there. Did try something very pale when the eyebrow thing started a year or so ago but it didn't look good and I couldn't help thinking of the awful ginger arch elderly (!) ladies used to pencil in, though I was meticulous about only using tiny hairlike strokes. I've concluded I look much better without, though I do use quite a bit of nicely shaded neutral eye makeup.

Look Fabulous Forever have a product called Fabulous Brow Shape it has 34 5 star reviews on the website. There is a video tutorial on the site that shows how to apply it. Maybe worth a try.

Suquu is good. Very natural, won't rub off and is virtually waterproof. Comes off with cleanser or a good rub with soap and water.

Bare Minerals & Mui do brilliant eyebrow powders in several shades- really quick & easy to use & look very natural. They stay on all day too. Takes about 30 seconds in the morning. I have no eyebrows- never had many anyway so have never plucked them. I hate the look with no brows- I look permanently surprised.
I find going for a lighter shade than you think you need woks best- although most chemists will have testers anyway. I use blonde although I have dark ( streaked) hair

Has anyone tried dyeing their eyebrows? Mine are quite thin but my salon suggested this would make a difference. I haven't got round to it yet.

My DD has the most beautiful eyebrows - I am captivated by them - DGD has them also

I use a brush and powder by Tropic Skincare - it works well, seems to stay on and is very natural i.e. no nasties in it ...

My eyebrows are sparse and scruffy these days. I tried the Wunderbrow, but didn't like it, plus the fact that in the mirror it looked green! I have returned to a soft grey/brown pencil but it rubs off too easily.

I haven't seen my under-arm hair since pubity, as I routinely shave my pits every morning, so don't know whether I still have any! My legs are still very hairy, and pubes seem to extend as far as knees.

I did look at a local advert for semi-permanent brows, costing £200 including a top-up a few weeks later. I don't wear a lot of make-up so chickened out in case the look was too artificial, as well as not being able to justify the cost.

I had my eyebrows done yesterday, it cost me £90, I think it is worth it not to have to fiddle about each day trying to pencil them on. This is the third time I've had them done, they are quite dark at the moment but will fade pretty quickly to the shade I want. They do fade over time,I get them done every six months, I could get them done every year instead and that would
Be £180 because I would need more work done on them as they would have faded considerably. Even if I hadn't got them done at least the shape is there for me to pencil in. I first got them done when my family gave me a gift voucher from the beauty clinic for my birthday, I felt a bit silly at first but now it's just like a 6 monthly visit to the dentist (sort of)

I have alopecia universalis. I have had to wear a wig for 30 years now. That was hard enough to adjust to but the real killer was losing 'facial furniture' ie brows & lashes. I have had semi permanent brows for about 20 years, they last a couple of years with care. I have also had semi permanent eye liner (not as bad as it sounds), but my skin doesn't take them very well so I now just resort to gel eye liner.
It is good to read about Wunderbrow, I will probably try that as cash gets tighter!

Oh yes 2old, that's exactly how my eyebrows behave!

Does anyone else suffer from the odd spikey hair growing amongst sparse eyebrows? They stick straight out and refuse to lie down. Once plucked out, they grow back in no time like a hedgehog's prickle, and then have to be left in place until long enough to tweezer grab without removing any of the fine surrounding hairs. I find I have developed the habit of absent mindedly patting my brows, seeking out the emergent prickle.

My DH has Denis Healey eyebrows. He never used to . They are madly unruly and I have to trim them for him when I cut his hair. At their worst, the longest hairs will grow in wild abandon and have been known to reach his eyelashes

My eyebrows are much sparser than they used to be and I am so pleased with Wunderbrow (recommended by a gransnet member) - I think you would need some eyebrow hair to use it. Mine comes off easier than they say but still really pleased with it. I use brunette as I have fairly dark hair and it can seem quite dark when you first use it but have got used to it now.

Loobs you beat me to it. I was reading through all the posts thinking I must add that. I am delighted that I now have that last third for the first time since I can remember since the doc increased my thyroxin.

I am the opposite of all you, I still have to pluck and sometimes it is the ones that have grown so very long. I also have to use a pencil because of a scar but afterwards I use a brush to make it look more natural. Mine are still black too apart from a very occasional white one.

My eyebrows are annoyingly thinner now, but underarm and leg hair still growing apace. I wonder why.

I have a hair on my left leg! I spotted it a couple days ago. I have no underarm hair at all and a bald patch somewhere else but my eyebrows have survived reasonably well. I use Benefit Gimme Brow! £18 to define them though. Dental hygienist showed me my teeth in a magnifying mirror but all I could see was my chin hair clinging. I think I shrieked....
