I have forgotten to cook the dinner

For the first time since long before Christmas I'm having some ME time. Off to town to get my hair done and a browse around the shops just to get away from endless unpacking, sorting, chucking more stuff out, arguing with DH.

I will bring home a ready meal for tonight.

Moving is hell.

I seem to have been on the go since before Christmas. We've had three family birthdays to contend with. It's my daughter's 40th today and they are coming for a "party". In fact hubby suggested a meal, not a party. They are also staying the night, so beds to get ready. Hubby has a horrendous cold, so he's not going to be much help. So.... shopping to do this morning, then hubby will cook I hope! I am longing for a few days break. Oh to be knitting and watching tv for the day!

Thanks annifrance but my outcome was much better than that. Delicious roast sirloin in a pub with a log fire.

I definitely did the right thing. Fed up with being taken for granted.

Late lunch. Raid freezer. Omelette. Three choices - done!

Sorry for ignorance - but I'm missing out. CBA???

We (DS and 3DGC) had roast chicken breasts (from freezer), oven chips and baked beans (from tin). Delicious! They especially like the bread and butter (Flora). Dessert - Jaffa cakes and Smarties left from Christmas. I love CBA!

My DS came downstairs earlier for his probably third or fourth bowl of cereal today. I CBA neither, as he never offers to cook (he can but he's a lazy so and so) so I'm just doing for myself today, beans on toast earlier and egg butty with brown sauce for tea followed by bananas in milk with a spoonful of sugar.

I have got stir fry in the fridge but that will do tomorrow. I have started on the Slimming World plan so need to buy more "free food" which is filling, rice, pasta etc. I hope I've lost some tomorrow at class, second week was half a pound on!

Oh yes - pigs ears - I'd forgotten! Somewhere in Portugal a stop for lunch, en route for Lisbon, our flight home from Faro having been cancelled... taken to a huge warehouse-like building behind a bakery, bursting at the seams with locals sucking up a gorgeous stew - in which the ears were visible - and delicious! Soft red wine at flumpence a bottle, olives - peasant women schlepping vegetables in a galvanised bath, in and out to be peeled and cooked - company of friends and colleagues, some of who are no longer with us: those pigs ears constitute a happy memory - thanks for reminding me!

And then they few us to the wrong UK airport, landing at Gatwick, while our cars were parked at Heathrow ...

Purpledaffodil no you don't pierce the swede first - just put the whole thing as is in the microwave and cook on high for about 15-20 minutes. It 'sings' as it heats up. When it's done, you simply slice the top off and scoop out all the lovely soft flesh.

Glass I think it was a mixture of January blues and CBA.

Felt a bit bad when DD turned up with a bunch of flowers for me, but got taken to the pub anyway. So - all's well... etc

Coolgran stop making me feel bad!

Intrigued by singing swede. Do you have to pierce it first as you do jacket potatoes in the microwave to prevent explosions? Recipe doesn't mention it.

One of my favourite things is mashed, buttery and peppery turnip (swede) with haggis.

DH has a cold so he doesn't fancy anything, so I CBA. Scratch breakfast of banana (him) breadmaker wholemeal bread, butter and marmite (me), homemade soup for lunch, leftover Christmas cake for tea and Indian takeaway for dinner. The excuse for the last last being medicinal, on the grounds that a hot curry will clear the blocked sinuses.

I permanently CBA'd cooking. I hate it.

Wow, that looks great Shysal, and so easy peasy. I have just informed my DH who is on cooking duty this evening ... he looks alarmed!

Is there any mood other than CBA on the subject of cooking dinner? .
DD hasn't come round today for dinner so my normal CBA mood, which applies every other day of the week, has kicked in . I was jolly pleased to find a frozen chicken pie in the freezer. I shall drag myself out there to peel a few spuds and shake some peas into a saucepan soon. Almost, but not quite, as easy as getting a takeaway

Well, I've got a lovely piece of brisket in the slow cooker. Complete with stock, herbs, onions, carrots and, yes, swede. Buttery mash and green veg to sort out later. Who cares what our fellow Europeans think? Some of them are partial to smoked pig's ears. Give me a humble root veg any day.

Here is the recipe for microwave swede. Apparently it sings as it cooks, but I haven't noticed it.

I am in a CBA mood, so for my dinner I am just going to experiment with Tornado Potato in the microwave, cut using my new spiralizer.
