Alcohol free January

Went to my book club which is held in a pub and had a pint of orange juice and soda instead of wine, the barman didn't stir it up or put ice in it, it was horrible and cost £3. One of the other ladies had a cup of tea! All the men had beer I noticed! Never mind, I didn't waver, will no doubt have wine at the next meeting ?But may even go for the tea.☕️

In a weird kind of way, I have actually enjoyed this challenge - and I haven't found it too arduous Once I have passed that point when I fancy a I don't really think about it again.

I am going away for a couple of days early next early week - and I guess it will be nice to enjoy a but I'm not desperate

I am finding it easier by the day.

Added bonus of weight and Blood Pressure going down - a result.

Definitely decided to cut back what I thought was a small amount of alcohol to an even smaller amount.

Very grateful to Jogging and others for the support.

I can see 1st February on the horizon but am thinking I might wait until 5th to have a glass, am really not missing it & plan not to drink Monday - Friday anyway. On the other hand.....

Not my friends in high places NanKate - I'm afraid I was ex-communicated years ago ...LOL. But my DM has managed to say more than a few Hail Mary's for me over the years ... I should think it's quite handy having a GS who is a vicar - and likes a tipple too...

Now you've got me thinking - maybe that's where I developed my passion from - all that communion wine every Sunday ... ?

Anyway, glad we're all in agreement and no extra days will be added for the 'slip-ups'

I am considering trying not to have an alcoholic drink at all at the forthcoming party on Saturday. I suspect if I manage that I might even receive a pair of angelic wings as a prize.

Considering I am not Catholic (my Mum was though) I suppose I should be contacting Archbishop Welby. However I could ask my Godson, who is a vicar, for dispensation. Fortunately he likes a tipple too.

Enough of my witterings.

joggin - no days added on for slip-ups - I like your thinking - a lot! You're right, January does seem to be never ending but hey it's all downhill now and we can do it. I do like a wee dram on Burns Night (tomorrow), another pleasure gone. However I WILL keep ing!

To be honest - January has been such a L O N G month - I vote that we don't add any days on for slip-ups - what do others think ...?

I can't even think about a damp February grannyqueenie we are off to a very nice hotel in the Lake District on the 1st and I am looking forward to a couple of glasses of something nice

We had a lovely time celebrating diva 1's BIG 8th birthday today and she was bribed persuaded not to wake me until 7.30.a.m. We had pancakes with fresh strawberries and cream for breakfast and then met up with others for lunch... where did those years go...?

Glad to hear you enjoyed your birthday tipple celebrations, Anya. As you say celebrating with family and good friends is the best, with or without the wine! We're spending next weekend with a group of old pals, I suspect dry January may come to a slightly premature and rather abrupt end , I'm hoping it may lead to damp February but am making no promises!

Not sure if I'm considered a committee member but I have the timing problem too - as I said way back I went to my wine tasting group one night earlier in the month AND didn't start til 4th January because of a social weekend. So where does that leave me on 1st February? All advice will be carefully considered...

Jogginggirl I need you to please put a request in with the Dry January Committee. Next weekend I am going to a surprise 70th Birthday Party for my DinL's Mum. If I and my DS who is also off the alcohol succumb to a drink or two 48 hours before the 1st of Feb how many days extra must we do as penance ?

I have asked for dispensation from the Pope, but he was out at a drinks party when I phoned.

Phew - resisted temptation so far tonight.
