It wasnt my idea to start a diversity thread. I was just agreeing with a poster[havent looked to see if it was Alea or not].

I thought asking others opinions or advice was all part of chatting the same as I do with my RL friends. If I need information I use Google not GN.

Why? It would be simpler if people confined themselves to posting their own opinions, not those of others.

For the record, I'm not a bit bothered if soon or anyone else wants to collect info on me from my posts on GN.

You're the one who keeps wittering on about Gransnet not being 'private', soontobe - no one else seems bothered about that aspect of it (or they weren't until you started sowing the seeds of doubt....)

Fair enough, but this is a public forum. Nothing private about it. Perhaps it was more private a few years ago, when it started. Virtually nothing has been deleted on this forum for 4 years either. Perhaps there is a case for gransnet, and other forums for that matter, deleting past posts?

A lot of is do lurk on Mumsnet.

Do you know what I think, I think soontobe just loves feeling she is somehow the centre of attention. Make a few stupid outrageous remarks and then sit back while everybody gets their knickers in a twist indignant saying what tosh it all is.
I find the obsession with the details of what people post sad disturbing and intrusive, not to mention creepy. If there really have nothing else to fill a life, well so be it, but there is a real world our there and this sort of online obsssing is unhealthy, virtually amounting to stalking.
We have seen the "naive" (ooh, some people are using long words some of us might not understand) the "religious fundamentalist"( it's not belief when it is fact) the prejudiced supporter supporter of Trump and Hopkins and refusal to accept what people who know might have to say (" well I know of one poster who lives in London and attends mosque regularly") oops, wrong there, and the custodian of personal details (" I have seen TWO pictures of you Alea") - so flippin what.
Enough of this ego trip.

I'd say that most of the posters on here are pretty well informed about everything. Some of them do hammer on about their pet themes, granted, and some don't seem to know how to tie their own shoelaces without one-to-one tuition on every thread, but the majority can discuss a variety of subjects with sense. There are people with personal and professional experience of all kinds of things and they are very generous in sharing their knowledge.

Posters from origins and backgrounds that are not well enough represented just need to post to say what they think and why their view is not quite the same as another poster's - they won't be eaten alive unless they start off by insulting the poster they are replying to, and no-one would be so rude as to do that, would they? It would be like joining a real live conversation by punching the speaker on the nose - not a good way to start.

Definitely not, but things like you saying what is happening in places that you have charity links with, is helpful. Plus granjura from the Swiss border. Plus those posters from France, and those with links from the US.
Wouldnt it be great to have posters from every country in the world? First hand, albeit internet knowledge from countries affected by climate change for example?

I don't think anyone should rely on Gransnet as their sole source of information, that way would lie confusion.
