Diversity

Soontobe has made a point that there should be more diversity on GN.
What do others think?
It is a tricky one because first of all GN is open to all who choose to contribute, but obviously self-selecting to a degree just by the site name and target group.
It is also hard to establish the degree of diversity among members as we retain anonymity and are under no obligation to reveal or even refer to ethnic background, religious affiliation, physical or any other disability, political inclination ( well some people are very clear on that, but not necessarily all) education, age, colour or shoe size.
So who's to say?
Does it really matter?

I have that vague memory too, Ana but dismissed it instantly as fantasy unlikely given the level of literacy the sort of posts which followed. tchhmm

granjura Sun 13-Dec-15 12:45:06

Well of course, some here have changed names so many times- it's hard to remember who is who (although I think I got it sussed for most, lol).

Nelliemoser. Your post at 11.51. Re. Having pictures deleted.
Some time ago I got into a little spat with this woman and I said then that there would be trouble ahead.
I received several nasty PMs from members telling me that I was being unkind. This creepy behaviour is exactly what I was talking about.

Anya Sun 13-Dec-15 12:53:34

lefthanded take care you don't hoist yourself with your own petard. You are making the assumption that men don't own any bras, but some do I'm sure you know? More than you might imagine?

Cross-dressers and transvestite might feel excluded by that assumption.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 12:57:22

I used to be shoe size 5, then 5.5 but nowadays I seem to be a 39.

That's diverse, isn't it - and very international? Or is it just that my feet are still growing? Apparently our noses grow all our lives, so our feet?

granjura Sun 13-Dec-15 13:01:57

we must be twins then- same here ;)

lefthanded Sun 13-Dec-15 13:02:04

Point taken Anya, mea culpa.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 13:10:40

I am beginning to wonder if this is GN or GCHQ

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 13:11:57

tchgrintchgrin

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 13:15:44

I am off to do some rapping

Sorry wrapping tchgrin

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 13:20:51

No one should be writing you nasty pms petra.
Take that up with GCHQ. They will deal with it for you.

I dont search very much. People dont have to if they have good memories.
I am pretty sure from what I have read on here, that there are several posters who do search a lot. And yes I can name names of those who seem to.
Again, if people are not happy about anything, start a thread or email GCHQ. It is their site, and their search facility.

Peoples' memories cannot be erased.

Ana, my book is Bible based, if you look back and have a look.

Personally , I write nothing on here[except possibly 3 posts that I have asked gransnet to delete on here, as I was being too personal about someone else], that I wouldnt wish to be read in decades' time. Why should it bother me?

I can see that it bothers other people, and would and have urged them to be careful about this very public place. And people do have memories!

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 13:21:27

oops. GN!

petra Sun 13-Dec-15 13:22:46

On the thread 'Ask a question' are you aware of how much info is being copied into 'The little book' just saying.

Alea. I think you could be wrong with that statement at 12.38. It was stated once that the would be author had been taught Latin. Lol.

mollie Sun 13-Dec-15 13:32:18

Sorry but I don't understand what this is all about. More diversity? How? Why? What's ideal or just the right amount? And why, again? Just to satisfy someone's dubious curiosity and to make it possible to point a finger or to make the interaction here more interesting? I'm really puzzled. Apologies if its obvious and my one grey cell is running on low...

Bellanonna Sun 13-Dec-15 13:38:43

I think that was of a religious ilk, to be self published. Rather strange and singular views of biblical texts. Quite a few contradictions. Made me wonder whether always genuine. Great efforts taken not to reveal too much about self apart from having " kids" and being middle aged, living rurally.... Come to think of it maybe I could do a bit of delving, once I find out how to, and compile a dossier. I'll do that when I get back from the temple. Speak later.

mcem Sun 13-Dec-15 13:42:07

You're probably right about researchers and their questions ana but we must be seen to be obeying the rules of GCHQ. Whoops! Same freudian slip again.
Actually, they probably wouldn't need to put their questions to all of us since we seem to have our own pet record-keeper.

Bellanonna Sun 13-Dec-15 13:43:28

Referring to post at 12.31. I hadn't read this page.

granjura Sun 13-Dec-15 13:43:33

A great new GN game for 2016- we all change names on Jan 1st- and see how long it takes to sort out who is who (wouldn't take long I think- lol)

Bellanonna Sun 13-Dec-15 13:46:37

GJ. Thought you already had ? grin

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 13-Dec-15 13:47:42

Okay to be specific, I wish that during our many threads about the conflict in the Middle East, at least one member who is of the Muslim faith had shared their thoughts from a Muslim point of view.

I have no idea if GN has any Muslim members, but given some of the the opinions shared to date, if I were Muslim I would not consider GN to be inclusive or diverse. I would avoid those threads like the plague and take from GN what suits me, or leave the site. I can visualise perhaps one or two Muslim GNs at some point biting the bullet and jumping in to these discussions to correct perceptions or just plain wrong information presented as facts. Until someone shares what it is like for them, all our discussions are at arms length.

I don't see GN as diverse, but apart from perhaps inviting more diverse guest bloggers, I have no idea how this can be changed.

mcem Sun 13-Dec-15 13:47:47

Naughty GJ!
That's against the rules. You could be accused of not posting correctly.
Intriguing thought though!

Great idea!!
I like my name, but people do get me mixed up with other posters tchgrin

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 14:10:01

soon - have you been hacked - you just don't sound like soon any more?
tchconfused

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 14:11:54

How many other male users lurk here
I would guess that the proportion of male to female posters is quite low, lefthanded - perhaps men have better things to do more sense other sites they frequent?

Anniebach Sun 13-Dec-15 14:13:07

I will opt out of changing names for three reasons

No idea how to. Too much effort and not clever enough to think of one. My spelling errors would be obvious on my first post as would my grammatical errors , not forgetting how often I hit the s key when aiming for a,

Yes I know, four reasons not three , but I did fail O'level maths - and Geog .
