Fisher Price record player

Couldn't you just kick yourself when you think of the toys that you gave away or chucked out all those years ago? £100 for a FP record player!

But the original garage is so valuable now - £100 on ebay!
don't tell DS, I gave his away
and the tv, the campervan etc etc.

I got a FP record player with records recently from a car boot sale for £6 ready for the new DGD (who is due tomorrow!!). Her father (DS2) will approve as he does some DJing and loved his vinyl records. It will be a while before she is big enough to play with it but she can have it for going to sleep music.

I recently bought a Sylvanian Family Windmill from a local charity shop. It came complete with clockwork sails, furniture and little creatures and their clothes. I never had a daughter, only sons and so didn't know the significance of my bargain until DIL arrived and was overjoyed to see it! She'd had the exact same toy when she was a child but, like most of us, had given it away or thrown it out when she grew too old for it. My granddaughter and DIL play for hours with it now and have even bought new creatures to go in it.

Oh Lord! I'd forgotten all about the Fisher Price record player! Didn't they come with half a dozen coloured plastic "records"? Nursery rhymes on them I think? Flippineck, been ages since I thought of that!

We have the record player too. Bought about 36 years ago. Both my DDs played with it plus all their friends throughout their childhood.

We bought it out again 10 years ago as our grandchildren began to arrive. Now 4 grandchildren later the littlest at 2 years old still plays with it.

Its been stood on, tossed about and generally had a hard life but it still works perfectly. I shall be handing it over to one of my daughters for their grandchildren !!

We had the record player, and the camper van with the boat on the top! Wonderful toys, almost indestructible.

I have got a bit carried away on ebay and bought some vintage Fisher Price: a garage, minibus, car lift, aeroplane, camper van, cars and lots of people.

They are such a hit with the GC - the only toys that they really play with on their own and go off into their own fantasy worlds. Fisher Price can't be beaten!

When my daughter was about 2/3 she had one of the FP "televisions" I think secondhand and she loved it but could not turn the knob that set the sound going. So she would follow us around asking you to rewind it all the time.

We got rather fed up of the tune so somehow we "lost it" and only turned up again in a cupboard about six years later when we moved house.

Guess what my DH found in the loft today? Our DD's Fisher Price Play Family House. I am so pleased!!!
Now off to eBay to look for all the people, beds, tables and chairs etc, ready for when DGD is old enough to play with it

My daughter's record player was given to her by her granny 42 years ago.
I kept all our good toys but used to do respite care for children with learning difficulties and one little boy broke them all.

Our FP record player is 34 years old, still works perfectly and is much loved by our 4 grand children .

It's treated like all the other toys but is incredibly robust and looking back was well worth the money although I thought it was expensive at the time.

The kids are fascinated by the concept of a 'record' player and we've had a lot of fun googling it with them.

My boys had the chatterphone, campervan, record player and garage. However, though Fisher Price were incredibly durable they were also expensive so these were passed down by a neighbour with an older child.

In turn I passed them on too. Did they ever wear out I wonder?

My daughter always wanted the FP record player but I wouldn't get it on the basis that everyone else had one and she could play with those whenever we visited. A few years ago I realised what a cruel mother I had been and bought one for her birthday - she was 32 I think. Of course it was much more expensive on eBay than it would have been originally.

So the lesson learnt was 'always give your children whatever they want, it's cheaper in the long run'. My DGD reaps the benefit now.

My radio got broke a few months ago; had worked up till them . Still can't throw it away.

Fisher price play street, cottage and camper van played with by eldest daughter 38, her sister 34 then played with by their baby brother 21, now waiting to be played with again by 1st grandchild 20 years later. All still good apart from one poor soul who got left in the garden and decapitated by the lawn mower! But beaten by my dolls house that was 2nd hand when my sister had it first 62 years ago. Must be 70 years old, made by its 1st owners grandad from the wood of old tea chests! How many times its been redecorated I don't know but it will be again soon for its next little owner.

I still have all my daughters Fisher Price toys, now my grandaughters play with them all, still have the camper van, the little dog that you pull along, the pull-along train, the clock, the little magnetic desk and it even still has all the letters! And a little carry along radio that played

The little ones have more fun with the old toys than their newer ones! x Love the memories they bring back! x

We had the FP garage with the wind up lift, and I still have some vintage playmobil which the GC love now they are that little bit older, I have the camper, the police car and lots of people. I also have a lundby dolls house from the 70s with lights and a pink bathroom suite. I have also aquired a couple of Sasha dolls ( remember them?) from the 70s/80s which the GDs aren't allowed to play with as they sell for a fortune on eBay. I think mad doll ladies buy them. ( I am becoming one of those! )

I've still got the FP record player and, as far as I know it still works, but was surprised to see a new one on John Lewis the other day. Also got the play village; the grandsons played endlessly with that. I stupidly bought an old dolls pram from a fair the other night only to realise when I got it home that it was very corroded; no idea what I'm going to do with it. Realised that I keep buying old toys etc because my mum threw everything of mine away.

Just been on the Argos website and they have a range called FP Classics! The clock is there, the Ferris wheel, the tugboat and the Chatterphone!!

My GS loves playing with the playhouse and camper van that was my children's, must be at least 30 years old now. I keep meaning to replace the sponge bits on the beds as they've rotted away! But apart from that they are both still solid and play worthy.

Still have the FP garage after 34 years, so sturdy with a hardboard base although unfortunately some of the plastic is brittle now and snaps off. We also have a small plastic FP work bench which is the same age. It has screws, a hammer, screwdriver, spanner and folding tape measure. All of my five grandsons have played with it endlessly and one still carries it down the garden to DH's workshop to 'help' Grandad. Wouldn't part with it for the world!
