Snow on the way!

Its been snowing in Stoke on Trent tonight.

Do you drive around checking, granjura? Just the same as you have the ability to peer into lorry cabs to see if theyr'e texting on their phones?

I'm sure most people who live in 'snowy parts' of the UK do their best to equip themselves for winter. What makes you think they don't, granjura?

I am surprised that not more people in Yorkshire Dales and other snowy parts of UK do not equip themselves with at least a good fron wheel drive and snow tyres for the winter, I have to say.

We've had some snow since about 4 o'clock. May need the wellies tomorrow.

We certainly are happy to have a 4X4 with snow tyres- here and for our Christmas visit to the UK in December.

It's pouring with rain in my Swiss mountains, on the East French border and the forecast say we should have loads of snow by the morning. But I've just come from a meeting, and it is still 11C - so I just can't believe it will happen!

I have just come back from visiting my mother in law who is in a home in Cramlington. The road temperature was 1 degree coming over the hills, and that was at 4.30, so I do not think it's too warm for the snow to lie here.
In the home they were telling the residents that they were going to be playing snowballs tomorrow. Somehow, I doubt it. I think that plan would fail health and safety.

Even here (SW France) the weather is due to change today. Already a strong northerly wind has blown some stormy clouds across the sky, and it's supposed to be below freezing tonight.
With lots of rain - which is needed after several months of drought.
We do get snow sometimes, but not yet.

Take a thermos greyduster or brandy in a hip flask! I well remember standing on the touch lines watching DS in feezing weather, brrrrrrrr.

And definitely me, Teetime! We may get some tomorrow, but I hope not too early. It is GS's last junior league match of the season and he's desperate for DH and I to go and see it. They are playing on a very exposed pitch and it's going to be b****y cold (it's a 9.30 kick off and we have a 45 minute drive to get there so will have to get up at the crack of doom!). Good job we love him! I made DH buy some rock salt yesterday, just in case..... I hope it's not as bad as 2010, Maggie.

The ground is too warm for the snow to lie but no doubt it may return in a few weeks when it is much colder.

It seems like a couple of years ago, but may have been the shocking Winter of 2010, when our toilet downpipe was frozen solid for over 2 weeks right over the Christmas period, despite the best efforts of Dynorod, British Gas Homecare, and my DH with his magic hammer (which comes out for any necessary repair around the house). We were lucky in that our next door neighbour was away and kindly gave us her keys, so there followed many nocturnal trips and slips on an icy pavement. We had a houseful on Christmas Eve, and dozens of bags and Christmas presents piled up high in our small hall out of the way. On Christmas Day we found that someone making the toilet trip had left the front door open, but fortunately the local ne'er do wells must have been full of the Christmas spirit and hadn't noticed.

Loath the snow - I may need a support group if it starts here.

My weekly shop yesterday included 2 large packs of braising steak,2 small packs of cubed pancetta,1 large pack of chicken breasts and a bag of onions and I intend to spend the day cooking for the freezer for when this snow arrives. Having no car for 18 months now has made me more resourceful and a better planner.

Am I not alone then in thinking a little bit of seasonal "cold " might be OK? Haven't had a winter coat on yet, or the boots, the scarves or lovely snood which DD brought back from Sweden.
That said, let's not overdo things, right?

Time for me to lay in my stock of emergency sausage rolls! Well there has to be an upside to being stuck in the house.

We have had a weather warning that snow is on the way in Northumberland and I followed a gritter on the way to school this afternoon

Hat, gloves, boots, scarves all ready and waiting. Winter duvet will be added at the weekend. I might just hibernate.
