Anyway, we'll sort our own snow crises in our own way.

Not got the link here, but have lived in the UK long enough to know that most people in the UK are not, truly. As said, in the South where snow is rare, then I can truly understand, In the areas listed- accoring to the RAC and the AA- the % of people equipped with snow tyres is absolutely minuscule. Do you never watch the news? Have you never been on the roads with 100s of cars, vans and lorries stuck in snow.

Merlot, we have a very high 4x4, and yes, I can see if someone is texting in a van, and you can guess with the head posture and arm position - even with a lorry- when I am not driving but in passenger seat! Believe me, or not.

Yes, if you live in the North you not only have a flat cap and a whippet, but you carry a shovel ( thrown nonchalantly over the shoulder) and you also whistle at all times.

I'm sure most people in the areas which regularly get a lot of snow in the UK will be prepared. Do give us some credit, granjura!

just depends where you live though- if you are in North Yorks or the borders, or Wales and the high Peaks- it's a different story.

Exactly, rose. I bought two snow shovels after the last time we had any snow worth talking about (must be four or five years ago now) and of course have had no occasion to use them!

Actually, my Danish counterpart and her husband are always surprised at how little prepared the British are for snow. They have snow chains.
Yes, Scandinavian countries are always well prepared. The lakes freeze so hard in Finland the cars can be driven across them (a shortcut). And the sea freezes too - now that is cold.

The thing about the UK is that 'now you see it, now you don't' - but sometimes it does last longer than we think it will.

Hurrah and stay safe.As said I am amazed how rare they are in places like North Yorshire and other more mountainous parts of the UK- we have 2 sets of wheels- easier than changing the tyres- my winter one are on pretty ugly rims- but all I care is about being safe. There was about 3 inches on the road as I had to drive into the Valley this afteroon- met the snowplough coming up, but the down route had not yet been cleared.

OH always had a 4x4 with wnow tyres in the UK in winter- guess who had to do all the visits to the rural areas around East Leics!?

Just watched three burly men pushing a car up the hill and round the corner outside my house. Wouldn't mind but it's quite a gentle hill for this village. Hope they are not going far.

Cars are coming through our large village/small town with snow on the roof. A couple of inches on some but none here yet, in fact it is a beautiful sunny day.

Three year old DGS just rang to complain that there is no snow and he hoped there would be!

Well, we woke up to a sifted icing sugar dusting this morning, which went very quickly, but half a mile up the road, where the village gives way to countryside, there was lying snow and slushy roads. Looking out across the moors, they were white over. Very pretty - if you like that sort of thing! The worst thing today was the wind. It was bitter, and our little lads were really up against it. One little chap was so cold, he had to be carried off the pitch and taken home. Both sides put in a really good performance though, despite the conditions. DD and the other mums were running a coffee stall, thank goodness! It didn't stay hot very long today though!

Great dollops of snow at 2am but not much left now.

I hate being cold too so definitely not a winter person
We get snowed in, never see a gritting lorry within 3 miles of us, and we have narrow, twisty lanes with steep hills so just stay put.

Started snowing in staffs about 11pm

Not really forecast here, the GC will be disappointed. A couple of years ago I managed to slip on the pavement outside DD's, just got out of the car, only had to walk a few feet up the path to her door. OH was driving, I'd been knitting, nothing broken thank goodness, no stitches dropped. Love the snow but hate the ice and slush.

Granjura, I had my snowtyres put back on two weeks ago. I am prepared, as I need to be in the Durham Dales.

Just locked up and realised there's snow on the ground. It's still snowing.

Perhaps it is because folks in the snowy north can't afford such petrol guzzling luxuries, while those in the Sunny South Cities need a Range Rover for the school run. #tonguefirmlyincheek
