Is the Met Office playing a game?

Future names have already been chosen, apparently, submitted by members of the public.

The full list of names chosen for future selection is: Abigail, Barney, Clodagh, Desmond, Eva, Frank, Gertrude, Henry, Imogen, Jake, Katie, Lawrence, Mary, Nigel, Orla, Phil, Rhonda, Steve, Tegan, Vernon and Wendy.

Is there no XYZ? Xavier, Yolanda and Zane?

No, they don't use those letters, for some reason.

I suppose they'd run out of names beginning with X pretty soon|!

So Clodagh is just a river....ah well. They started off well!

I was surprised to hear the storm given a name. It is an Americanism I guess. I sort of quite like the idea. A bit more interesting than the storm of 19...... and of course it provides more quiz questions!

I was telling my youngest granddaughter about the Storm naming and that they had named one Tegan for her. She was so happy when her teacher devoted a lesson to weather the other day and that she told the class that a storm was named after Tegan, her friends hadn't believed her when she had told them.

I think people may take more notice of warnings if the storms are named.
