Ye Gods! the howling wind!

Wind dropped overnight here, just grey and rainy now, but going to be really cold from Friday, even snow expected! arrrrrrgh!

Quiet and dry here this morning.

I was reversing the car out this morning when the side mirror caught on something. I got out and discovered that a fence panel had been dislodged by the wind overnight. Luckily my neighbour was in and helped me to remove it. So tomorrow I'll be down to B&Q for a new one. What next?

The wind picking up here now, I thought it had gone away! groan.

Phew! What a long worrisome wait you had.Electricity supplyers are not known for their speediness but that takes the biscuit.

What a saga M0nica!

My car port is still playing music out of tune, but all the fences are holding up. I think we've had stronger gusts this afternoon than last night. Lots of heavy rain this afternoon will be giving my new plants a good start!

We are also in Oxfordshire and greet these winds with a contented sigh.

Two years ago during a windly winter we found water pouring into one of our bedrooms. It was comin gin around the chimney and the cause was the electricity supply cable that was attached to the chimney. The cable stretched over 50 metres to a pole in next door's garden and with fifty metres of cable gyrating in the wind, the bracket on the chimney had become slightly loose and was loosening our chimney and it was in danger of coming down. The solution was to remove the supply cable from the chimney and connect it elsewhere.

That was in December. We rang the electricity supplier we explained that our chimney was in danger of collapsing into the centre of the house. They were mildly interested, visited and agreed that our assessment of the situation was correct.

We rang them almost weekly through out January, February, March and into April, when they finally agreed it was an emergency and they would come and fix it in July. In the meanwhile every time we had a gale DH and I stayed awake on nights that were windy and paced the hosue when days were windy convinced that at any moment our chimeny would collapse.

I almost wept with relief the day the electricity supplier finally laid a new cable underground. It is two years ago, and I still sigh with relief on days like today (and last night), thankful that we are no longer worrying about our chimney.

Our power went off just after 8pm, groan.We lit lots of candles and Mr Roses played card games on his iPad.I managed to read a bit by candlelight, but by 9pm we went off to bed, thought we may as well sleep and hope the power would be back for the morning.It came back on about 4 am , had to get up and turn tv and all the lights off.This morning our garden is full of small branches from the trees and a couple of broken pots, but no roof damage.The weather here sunny and rainy by turns, a bit windy, but nothing much, Barney has gone off somewhere else.

It was not as bad as I had feared. I could not hear the wind when lying in bed but this morning I had to rescue one wheelie bin and rearrange my garden furniture which had moved a fair distance but at least was still in my garden. I was fortunate that I did not have to find somebody to fix fallen fences etc.

There's a couple of small holes in our car port roof put there by a freak hail storm, and it's playing a tune. What a racket! And I think our water barrel may have blown over. At least it's not raining at the moment.

It has been very windy here and we thought there could be trees down along our route, but all was OK. Very strange, as a few miles away it was only just breezy - we thought it had all died down until we got home again to be met by gales again!

It sounds quieter out there now.

It was blowing a hooley earlier here in Devon. I spent 3 hours in bed this evening as I'm feeling very unwell, and when I got up the wind had dropped, thank heavens. Like others, it unnerves me to hear all the garden pots rolling about in the wind outside. I'm just grateful that we have garden walls, not fences!

Very blustery here in north Shropshire ...

Even worse now in Cambridgeshire. We had a ten minute power cut and amazingly, just as we were about to retire to bed with the battery radio, our Kindles and a bottle of wine it came back on again.

Pretty blustery here in Colchester but still warm.

Calm here in Newcastle but had heavy rain earlier, could be the calm before the storm.

The wind is picking up here in NW London but as somebody said, the worst is going to hit us during the night. I hope that I have fences and a shed, not to mention garden furniture.

Very scary winds here in the West Midlands. There are bins rolling down the street and our windows are rattling

Well.I'm a bundle of nerves tonight what with the scary wind and the stuff on the news. Always afraid the big chimney stack will blow down onto my bed (with me in it))

The wind is beginning to pick up in west Northumberland, and it's raining quite heavily. It's to be at it's height here at about midnight. I hope I will sleep through it.
