Happy birthday - if you're still awake!
and another [cake]
Well, thus ends another birthday. Thank you all again for your good wishes and oh, how your stories resonated with me! I got my nails done which cheered me up, dd1 appeared on a flying visit, dd2 facetimed and ds sent a text so some nice moments. I've arranged to take myself out on Thursday with two good friends for a meal, so I'm looking forward to that immensely. Next year will be different...I'm going to organise a spa weekend for myself and aforementioned friends! And dare let anyone complain, comment or criticise! Must go and lie down - all the
and
has made me sleepy......zzzzzzzz
Welcome Olympia have a lovely birthday next week
Happy birthday Katek - how I can relate to your feelings. When my husband was 60 I organised an all singing, dancing bells on trip to LA. Top floor lakeside view at the Bellagio. Birthday dinner on the "Eiffel Tower", flight over Grand Canyon, front row seats to see Celine Dion(not my choice of show but not my birthday!) Upgrades and champagne on both flights AND a three day visit to San Francisco etc.etc.etc. Sadly when it was my time for birthday our relationship was at breaking point - married 42 by then. 60th birthday approached and not a mention from husband, three sons and their partners. Two months before the day I booked myself a four day trip to New York. (I was working at the time and had a good salary). Still no mention about MY landmark birthday. Two days before the day after my husband left for work I left a very brief note saying I would be away for a few days. I took myself off to Heathrow and flew to NY. It was Thanksgiving too - a time I love. I went to Radio City to see The Rockets on my birthday and admit to feeling a bit emotional - I had to physically stop myself telling the couple next to me that it was my 60th birthday in case they thought I was a pathetic sad lady (which I felt!) I had a lovely if not a bit sad time on my own. I arrived home to silence so did not need to explain why/where I had been. He knew I was angry! I found a present of face cream which had clearly been gift wrapped by the saleslady. The cream was for greasy skin and since being born I have had dry skin. It was only when son no.2 came with a present (three days later and by then she knew where I had been) and dil said "And how was New York" that husband found out - and was furious although he had the sense not to say anything to me about it. I have studiously ignored his eight subsequent birthdays only sending a small plain card with no words of greeting just my name and he gets a plain bottle of unwrapped whiskey. This incident was the nail in the coffin of a long marriage. I will take myself off for the day next week but sadly not to NY. Enough about me ! A newcomer to GN I think you are all fabulous and so enjoy reading all the posts!.
.
Happy Birthday, Katek. I'm a bit late in the day but my wishes are nonetheless heartfelt. If you lived near me, I'd take you out to lunch. Do you have any G'netters living near you? You might be able to have a birthday club! Birthdays are not just for kids.

Happy Birthday to a fellow Scorp!
I know just how you feel. DD1 was born the day before my birthday so any celebration for me went out of the window until she left for university. My birthday last week was used up with other commitments so I had an official birthday on Friday and booked a meal out with DH. (Of course , I booked it) If official birthdays are good enough for the Queen then I can cope with them too!
Happy Birthday, Kate! I have nearly always organised my own birthday meals/treats, but always make sure I have one. Book yourself and DH in for a nice meal out now - the night is yet young! And have some more
and
and
for afterwards.
KateK wishing you a very Happy Birthday

Hope in spite of everything you were able to cheer up, birthdays aren't quite the joyous occasions they used to be I admit, but we need to try and stay positive, hope You had some nice cards?
Happy birthday Kate.
Is it too late to organise a pub meal for the weekend? (I always organise mine myself. No point waiting for them to
)
And you need to make today special. Make yourself a nice cake if it's too wet to go out to buy one.
Happy birthday Kate!

Happy Birthday kateK

I know exactly what you mean about being the organiser. I booked a weekend away for DH's 50 he had no idea until we got in th car. I booked a meal for 20 for his 60th. Who arranged the celebration for my 60th ME !
Indulge yourself
Thank you all for the cake and kind words! Very much appreciated I can tell you. Have managed to get a cancellation at the nail salon so I'm going to have some pampering and laughs with the girls there. Will also be going to Tesco for small cake-I may let DH have a small piece!
Happy Birthday Kate

Happy Birthday Kate. Go out and treat yourself to something very special and pampering. Then come home with a small, but decadent cake. One that's too small to share
.

lona call a spade a spade
You've said it so well glass!
Happy birthday Kate
it does knock your end in especially if your the one who make others birthdays special and you feel you have been forgot.
Just have yourself a day out tomorrow,do what you want to do and stuff the lot of them
Katek Happy birthday to a very special person!
you've already got a lovely cake!
Is there a limit to how many "ands" one person can use?
Cheer up Katek you are so not alone. It is only another day and it will pass and you will be ok tomorrow and from me Happy Birthday and go to the shops tomorrow and indulge yourself. That always makes me feel better
.....so why am I feeling so flat and miserable? It's not the year older thing as I've been thinking of myself as this age for a while. I always have great hopes for my birthday/around my birthday which never materialise so that's probably at the root of it. A family meal at the weekend would have been nice but it only happens if I organise my own treat. I'm not saying they don't all love me, but for one day I would like to come further up the priority list. People are asking on FB/text if I'm doing anything special and the answer is no. I don't feel it's a special day at all.
