Silver Wedding Anniversaries

I went to a Diamond Wedding Barn Dance celebration on Saturday. It was a lovely way to celebrate 60 years together! The couple were also looking forward to a family lunch out on Sunday. The wife has known me since I was born and her sister and BiL had come over from Canada too. Great to catch up!
Congratulations to Hunt who has also achieved 60 years of marriage!

Yesterday was our Ruby Wedding, we hired a small room at a local hotel just for our children and grandchildren, had a splendid meal and when the little ones had finished they could get down and play without disturbing anybody else, a perfect day .

We have just celebrated our Golden Wedding and we had a thanksgiving service at the church where we were married( and still attend) and we invited as many of the people that are still around when we got married including the friend who introduced us. Apart from that there were friends we had made along the way and even 3 out of my four little bridesmaids one of whom I have not seen since she was 12 ( She is now 58!!)
It was very emotional but at the same time very uplifting as three of our grandchildren read and our organist came with a choir and we got to choose our own music. Following that we had a buffet reception in which we could all get together. We came home with a lovely warm feeling knowing we have been lucky enough to get this far together. Our eldest son also celebrated his silver wedding a month earlier but choose to be very low key as he felt it was a personal occasion between him and our daughter-in-law.

go for it ladies. on our 40th ( Ruby) went on a cruise for the first time and loved it that was in 1988, after afew years we did another cruise and after that cruised twice a year, on our 50th again a cruise, in our cabin was a card from the captain and beautiful flowers and bottle champagne, after dinner waiters came round table and sang happy anniversary, also a cake all this was compliments from the cruise line, great memories unforgettable, my husband died eleven years ago but memories are always there.

Rosesarered: for my Pearl wedding anniversary my husband bought me..... a bag of pearl barley and thought it hilarious.

Silver Wedding was a driving trip around Italy to the three 'Vees': Venice, Verona and Vicenza.

This was pre-internet and I had a very difficult time trying to make the travel agent understand that we wanted to park the car in the hotel's garage in Venice and not have it out on a public road........ I know, I know, I am a little dim! Only on arrival did the penny drop and I had to agree that the travel agent was right all along... there are no roads in Venice (well, Venice 'proper'!).

Our Ruby wedding was a party held in a restaurant for friends and family, about fifty of us I think. One son-in-law had decorated the room with ruby red balloons and our daughters had ordered a cake with models of us wearing our wedding clothes only as it was our Ruby wedding, my wedding dress was ruby red. Aww! V cute.

Quite honestly it doesn't matter where the event is celebrated, just that it is. In this day and age of what seems like quickie-divorces all around, it is a marvel that a couple still like to be around each other after so many years. Well, most of the time!

We also had family (and probably friends) who thought we were not compatible (different nearly everything!) so it was good to prove them wrong.

Heading up towards our golden in a couple of years.... if we don't kill each other first!!

We held open house all day and friends from over the years came and went as they pleased.Only 18 months to our Diamond anniversary have no plans but a cruise would be good.

we just went out for a quiet meal for our silver anniv.We had teenagers at the time so no money for a trip.DH bought me a silver locket.
We went on a lovely holiday for our Pearl anniv. And DH bought me a pearl and gold pendant necklace and the matching earrings.
For our ruby anniv. We had all the family and friends over to our house/ garden for a relaxed barbecue. Gold and ruby earrings from DH.
If we reach our Golden Wedding anniv. Who knows?

Orient Express to Venice is a once in a lifetime experience!!! It really is wonderful with fantastic food & like you imagine life in the 1930's. If u do choose it, a word of warning, don't expect a shower or your own loo!!! Can't tell u the bliss on arriving in Venuce & enjoying a bath!!!

We went to Paris, and since then we've gone back for the millenium, each big birthday, and wedding anniversary. This is the first year we've missed in ages, but Himself has a big birthday next year.

Can't remember what we did for Silver Wedding but for Golden we renewed our vows and all the DGC took part in the service ,lovely lunch for 40 in village hall, trip along the Oxford Canal in four narrow boats decorated with gold balloons and champagne and golden wedding cake on banks of canal. We've just celebrated our Diamond Wedding!

Our three daughters arranged a surprise party for us on our 25th in 2001. We also celebrated ourselves with a holiday in China , our first 'big' trip.

it's our 40th next year so we are thinking what to do. Probably a small family dinner and a nice short break for just us. We are doing a cruise later in the year but that includes M_I_L !

We had a lunch with extended family, a barbecue in the evening for lots of friends. We put a marquee on the drive and lined the garage with white camouflage netting for the food. DS1 (aged 21) made a lovely speech. Secretly a friend had contacted everyone and asked them to bring candles and when we went around into the garden at the other side of the house (having been 'delayed' by someone for a few minutes), it was like fairyland with candles all over the garden and floating on the pond and all our friends there. Only the dog disgraced herself by eating too much and being sick.

Like you, Rosiebee everyone said it wouldn't last when we got married. For our 25th we had a family party and we went out for a meal. For our 40th next year we are renewing our vows and having a week in Loch Lomond, my favourite place.

we went to Prague & Cesky Krumlov. we know Prage well but had never been in summer. & Cesky was beautiful

We were married in May 1975 so our silver was in 2000. My wife was teaching at the time so we could only take a week and we went to Rome.

I honestly can't remember! In that particular year all three of our children were at Uni and we were on our uppers because we were paying three lots of rent and a mortgage, so perhaps we treated ourselves to a takeaway....

Five years later they were all working, thank goodness , and we made up for the low key Silver by celebrating our Pearl Wedding with a trip to China and a big party for all our family and friends.

It'll be our Ruby in a couple of years, God willing, and we're hoping to take the DC and DGC off for a family holiday. I'm excited about it already!

I'd love to have a large enough family and enough friends for a "big bash"

We had a big family bash - which is what we usually do for big events. We had a 4 year old and a 10 year old at the time so a trip away wasn't really on the cards.

Nothing as far as I can remember well it was 15 yrs ago. DC were only 9 and 12 so not a lot of money to spare.

Our daughter got married in the same month in which our Silver Wedding occurred. so we didn't have a big celebration. I made their wedding cake and she wanted Garfield, the cartoon cat, and his bride, on the cake top. I managed to persuade her that she may regret it later, so she had flowers, and we ended up with Garfield on our celebration cake.
For our 40th, we had an Alaskan cruise, and for our 50th we did a Panama cruise, but also went back to the Isle of Wight, where we had honeymooned. ( Well it was practically 'abroad' in those days.)

Sorry, daughter number THREE!

It was our silver wedding in July 1988. We just went for a meal with close family, as it was only a few days before daughter number 2`s wedding.
