I'm going to be a Grandma!!

Just a word of caution - some babies really don't take to being swaddled - mine did but neither GD would put up with it. Also don't buy tiny first size things as they grow so quickly and really don't need many - its just when they get a bit bigger things get dirty and need changing more often. (Also my eldest was born with clickyhips and nothing we had been given or bought would fit over the brace. By the time she was out of it, all the first size babygros etc were way too small. Treats for the mum to be is what to do until baby arrives.

Just remembered I got my DD a relaxation tape when she was pregnant with her DD.
She was 'ok mother' about it and didn't bother with it.
After DSiL went back to work after paternity leave, I went down to help for a week.
I managed to persuade her to finally listen to the tape while I took DGD out in the pram, when I came back she was wrapped up in a blanket and in a deep sleep on the sofa

And knitted toys!

You can always get on with some knitting or crocheting in the meantime, I made a shawl and some small covers for the Moses basket and pushchair.

We always told our children to buy an item that they wanted, and we would pay for it.So, we have bought a cot ( large type) and a pram/ pushchair and
Another cot, for our three grandchildren.They can buy these items a month before the baby is due.Don't buy any clothes in advance, you can buy some whenever the baby is born.Welcome to the forum frufru

Congratulations, frufru! My advice would be to hold back on any big buys until you know just what DD and her OH want. It's easy to get carried away, rush out and buy something like...oh, let's say for instance a lovely gliding crib for £150 that only suits a baby up to 10 weeks old, takes up room you haven't got and is used once because they prefer the much more practical Moses basket (I can't imagine who would do that, btw ).

By all means enjoy buying some cute growbags and muslins, but do remember that the new mum and dad will be excitedly looking forward to choosing their own things. Ask them what they want from you much nearer the time.

I love the swaddle and the Moses basket ideas, but I'm sure you'll be talking a lot about this with your DD, so maybe you'll get ideas from her to help you decide. Treating her to some pampering will make her feel special, when all the attention is on the bump!

Our second Grandchild is due in February ( the first child for DD3 ) and we gave them an amount of cash to use as they wished. They included us in the trip to order what they wanted. Of course I doubt you'll be unable to resist buying other bits and bobs too !

It's an exciting time and as our lovely DGS is now 13 years old it will be lovely to have a little one around again.

My 3rd GC is due in May. My DDs always had a list of things and we chose from that. We are always babysitting and treating our DGSs which is appreciated more than any gift.

I bought a sheepskin for the Moses basket/cot or pushchair which my DDIL loved. I gave one to my niece too for her DS. It helps regulate the baby's temperature and is beautifully soft.

Congratulations. I have just become a 'nana' for the first time. We flew to Hong Kong where my daughter lives to see our grandchild when he was two weeks old. It was SO exciting. My daughter would have been lost without her Moses basket. She could put baby in it and then carry him in the house to wherever she was while he slept. So if your daughter would like one I would buy that for her. Most of the clothes for baby was either given as presents or just given from friends who had finished with tiny babies. The baby things available are overwhelming as you will find out now as you will be looking in baby shops. Good luck and enjoy your grandchild when he/she arrives.

Congratulations Frufru - you are about to enter one of the best times of your life. I would suggest buying 'treats' for DD especially as she gets bigger and more tired. Having said that, you won't be able to resist buying 'bits' for the baby when you see them in the shops! Enjoy!

Congratulations, that is the best news! I second janea's idea of a swaddle. My DGD was born in June and my DD said the swaddle was an absolute life saver.
Another Godsend was this maternity pillow which was such a support during pregnancy and doubled up as a nursing pillow when the baby arrived.

Congratulations frufru, I would give your DD a treat for herself like a mum- to- be massage or something pretty to wear and then ask what she would like for the baby. I bought the pram and car seat for my first GC.

Comfy pj's or nighties for her. When DD1 was pregnant with GC no 1 we loved buying baby gear but she did occasionally feel a little left out!

Buy her a coat large enough to cover her and keep her and the 'bump' warm through the winter.
Let her buy her baby things first and then you can see what style she would like.
