What the heck do you buy for DH for Christmas?

It may be a bit on the early side as yet, but I have a problem every year with this, and hope to copy somebody else with ideas for presents. No matter how whacky or prosaic, put a few ideas on here?smile

I'm going to buy tickets for a trip around Mini plant at Cowley, a day at Didcot Steam Railway and a day at Coventry transport museum. We won't be able to go until Spring because we'll need to stay in that area for a couple of nights and most caravan sites are closed until then. Also the weather will be better.

My DH doesn't seem so awkward after all. Seems to be a common problem Tickets to something we can do together seems a good idea will have a think. Perhaps tea at the Spinnaker Tower again.

Five different brands of moustache wax and a neoprene car seat cover for when he's been cycling/windsurfing and gets into the car wet or sweaty.
I do realise that these gifts may not be suitable for many men. grin

grannyactivist ! Are you married to Hercule Poirrot? grin

grannyactivist Sat 07-Nov-15 18:15:24

Hmm grin, close enough - although my man's moustache is more like this - same colour too, but with slightly more grey..

I'm very tempted to suggest the no present route because finding something he likes and wants and will use is a nightmare. I listen closely all year for hints and do my best but most things lay untouched all year long. sad

One of the things I got him last year (his birthday is Christmas Day too!!) was a 'Lord' title for a piece of land at a Scottish castle! We still need to go and visit it and stand on the turf (smile)

Army, not Navy, Alima, but he got his taste for rum while serving with his beloved Ghurkhas, and then we lived next door to a Petty Officer in the Navy who introduced him to the 'genuine article'. The rest, as they say, is history!

I made my DH a t-shirt one year, with the slogan (which I printed from a design I made on my computer, using iron-on transfer paper). He is famous for spillages on his clothes, nearly always of the curry variety. So the slogan read: I aimed the curry at my mouth, but once again I missed. It's not that I'm a rotten shot; it's just because I'm a little bit inebriated. The whole thing was overprinted with curry coloured 'splashes'. It caused a lot of hilarity on the day and he even proudly wore it to the pub over the Christmas break. much to the merriment of his fellow drinkers!
Sorry, roses, that's not going to be much help to you, is it? I'm afraid I get equally stumped for ideas, so I'm watching this thread with interest smile

Indinana Sat 07-Nov-15 18:31:38

Sorry, that should have said 'with a slogan'.

kittylester Sat 07-Nov-15 18:32:13

I'm not going for this no present idea as DH is really good at buying presents! grin. Well apart from the year he bought me a fancy steam iron. He still doesn't quite get that it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for!

grumppa Sat 07-Nov-15 18:37:39

A bottle of Islay malt.

I got DH a neutral coloured personalized cushion that says 'reserved for xxxxxx'.
Tickets for 'rock n roll years' show in January.
Cardi
A personalized slate sign for his man shed that says
'xxxx' s place - by appointment'
Multi tool.

He does have a birthday coming up also and I will split it up.

My hubby is terrible to buy for. His only real interest is his Playstation 4, but apart from the fact that games are expensive, I don`t know what he`s already got, and vouchers get boring after a while. He doesn`t read, or listen to music anymore, and as he rarely goes out, isn`t in great need of new clothes. I like the idea of a personalised cushion, but not for him, I keep a cushion on his chair, but whenever he goes to sit down, he chucks it on the floor, hates cushions!

We've stopped buying Christmas presents for each other. My husband is virtually impossible to buy anything for. Even books that he has expressed an interest in reading have lain unread and music he has said he likes has not been listened to. So I've given up. We only buy for birthdays and then I usually buy a more expensive item of clothing than he would usually get for himself - or he might say he wants a specific thing and gets it himself. I did get tickets one year for a Johann Strauss Christmas Concert at The Festival Hall. Even though I'm not that keen on Strauss, it was quite enjoyable but, although he's a fan, he didn't seem that enamoured.

We do a "Secret Santa" for adults and only the children get presents.

We don't buy each other presents at Christmas, we usually treat ourselves for a night or two to a lovely B and B somewhere not too far with bracing walks and a roaring fire. Good food wine etc, helps us get over the chaos that is the festive season.

Hunt Sun 08-Nov-15 09:41:58

Nothing! My DH and I have never bought presents for each other. We have just celebrated our Diamond Wedding and I did get a diamond!

Greyduster Sun 08-Nov-15 10:19:44

Congratulations Hunt! That's a real milestone.

DH loves music so he normally gets a stack of CDs, and he uses dome of the money I would have spent towards his cricket membership.

My dad is the awkward one - lives alone with a good pension so can buy what ever he wants.

Granoveve Sun 08-Nov-15 10:38:59

I bought my DH a Kindle, even though he thought he'd never use it. It was an instant success. Now, whatever else he gets, he chooses books. (Sometimes still the paper variety though.) He likes things for his hobby and this means I can also organise days out.
The main difficulty is that, like a lot of other people, if there's something in the clothing line that he needs, he'd rather have it there and then. I've persuaded him to wait for some new slippers so my DD can buy them as she always asks and he always says either "I don't know" or "Save your money for yourselves."

We buy each other presents - I think Xmas morning would be pretty sad without a present or two under the tree to open with a glass of fizz. What to get DH is a problem every year. DH loves a gadget but he has them all now. I sometimes buy clothes as he doesn't buy nice things for himself so it might be a more expensive shirt and a new fancy waistcoat for the wedding e have coming up in the summer. I will get the obligatory aftershave even though he has a beard as I like him to smell nice and he will only buy cheap ones for himself. He loves a good book but its impossible to choose for him and he doesn't want any CDs or DVDs as its all downloaded now. He has all the tools and golf gear etc he will ever need and doesn't really eat naughty Xmas treats so heaven knows what I will get him. I have asked but answer came there none.

Just a word of warning if you were thinking of giving your golfing DH a funny golf gift - they aren't funny, golfers have heard it all and seen most of it.

Gagagran Sun 08-Nov-15 11:20:26

I've bought my DH a camel. wink

Gagagran Sun 08-Nov-15 11:42:08

Not a live one of course. It's a back pack for water when doing sports like cycling and distance running. He's a cyclist.

granjura Sun 08-Nov-15 11:51:25

No more 'stuff' we buy each other experiences- eg a special week or week-end away with a very special experience included (whale watching, a train trip up the mountains, tandem paracending, etc).

lefthanded Sun 08-Nov-15 14:10:24

Don't see the problem - I'm easy to buy for:
Grumpy Old Men t-shirts
Any Cotton Traders clothing
"The Road to Little Dribbling" by Bill Bryson
New walking boots (mine really are beyond repair)
Thornton's Continental chocolates

Oh - and if that bottle of Pussers Rum is still available..........
