Toddler books

My 18 month old GD has inherited her sister's touchy feely books. They love feeling the fleece of a lamb, or a cat's coat, doll's hair and so on. The books with things to open, revealing a different animal each time, for example, are good. Simple rhymes, too. Even if they don't understand it all. Best bet is to stand in a shop like waterstones and enjoy a nice long browse. Ours also enjoyed noisy books. Have fun choosing. Buying books for them is one of my favourite pastimes.

Where's Spot, What's in the Jungle, lets find out (there is also what's in the cave, what's on the beach etc) The Mog books...........

My grandson liked the 'That's not my...' books, which are touch and feel books for tinies, and employ repetition. There's a whole range of them. 'Hungry caterpillar' is a good one too.

Ours have all loved the Richard Scarry books, but maybe they're for slightly older children.

April My DGS aged 21mths has inherited his older siblings book. We usually have a few favourite books that last a few days then he finds others that interest him.

Julia Donaldson has some fantastic books for toddlers and the illustrations are great, have a look online but here are a few that are favourites here.

Sharing a Shell, Night Monkey Day Monkey, Tiddler. The Smartest Giant in Town, Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose, Hippo has a hat.

But you could also try
Big Red Bath, Big blue train etc etc ...lots of different books in series.
Hungry Caterpillar.
Each Peach Pear Plum.
Peepo.
Hairy Macleary.
Owl Babies.
Look what I can do.
Whos in the loo.

Oh I could go on for ages, nothing like a good cuddle and a book, enjoy.

Oh yes The Elephant and the Bad baby is wonderful. Also Hairy Maclary. Mad rhymes about a mad collection of dogs. Lot of build repetition.

I get some lovely books from The Book People, they sell huge amounts so know what is popular and often have sets at very low prices.
Usborne's board books are good too, 'Baby's First Toys Book' is far less bland than the title implies!
Rod Campbell's books are lovely, some Touch-and-Feel, some with flaps.

My GC liked board books of Hug! The Hungry Caterpillar, Ten in a Bed, Incy Wincy Spider (includes furry spider!!), Going on a Bear Hunt, Peepo!. Also Dorling Kindersley's 'Baby Faces Peekaboo! a late format board book with big flaps and a 'mirror' in the back.
Five Little Ducklings and a similar book with touchable ladybirds are good for counting.

My GS favourite book at present is 'where's spot?' It was my children's so 30+years old! He also likes the 'that's not my.......train, robot etc series
