Your outfit sounds perfect, I stopped asking my husbands opinion after many years ago buying a floral jumpsuit which I loved but was unsure of wearing as it was so different to anything I Normally wore, before going out I asked the dreaded question does this look ok?, I took his non commital grunt as meaning yes, after a lovely evening out where I felt rather nice when we got home I said I'm glad I wore this, to which he replied I'm surprised you did as it made your bum look big!, needless to say I never wore it againconfused, suppose that's why he is a ex!

Well if it isn't well lit no one will notice his two black eyes grin

rosequartz Sun 01-Nov-15 18:42:06

Luckygirl grin
Mine may not but other people sure would (but I would have the room to myself)

Luckygirl Sun 01-Nov-15 16:21:59

Would he notice if you wandered into the room naked? Worth a try?

It sounds lovely, black velvet trousers are always my choice when I'm not sure. I like someone's suggestion of a wrap above, or long sparkly thin black scarf perhaps. They do break the silhouette.

Of course, you will be wearing a tiara as well, won't you!!grin

Some one up thread said they rely on their daughters which is what I do too although one or two of them can be a touch too truthful for my liking! grin

It sounds just right for an evening party, teetime. And if you feel comfortable in it, that's more than half the battle. What shoes are you wearing? I always feel that if my feet are happy, I am too. Is it the longevity of a marriage that makes husbands so tactless?

POGS Sun 01-Nov-15 13:34:16

Teetime

It sounds a perfect outfit to me.

Hubby sounds perfect to me too. Just remind him on the night you are glad the room is not well lit , so nobody can see who you brought along with you. grin

You wouldn't have posted his comment if you didn't know it was meant in fun, would you? confused

I hope you all share a very happy evening .

DH would always say I looked lovely, and mean it. So for more realistic advice I ask one or other of the DDs . They will always be candid.

What a load of old rat bags you lot are married to! Trust your own opinion- it is never wrong I am sure.

rosesarered Sun 01-Nov-15 12:13:20

It sounds fine to me, Teetime smile

I've seen the top and it is fabulous. Also saw the trousers you intended to wear, very nice as well.

Velvet trousers always look glam for the evening. Wear and enjoy!

'Don't worry dear, no-one is going to be looking at you' is DH's usual reassurance
hmm

Grannyknot Sun 01-Nov-15 11:38:16

Mine usually says,"What makes you think you're going to be the centre of attention?" (Harsh but true )! ]grin

As long as I feel good about what I'm wearing, that's all that matters. Although I sometimes look back at photos and shake my head in a "What the hell were you thinking" kind of way.

Don't go in for the reveal in "Is this allright?" mode, oh no. Sashay in saying "This is my outfit and I feel like a million dollars in it". grin

I know the feeling, it is daunting dressing for weddings. I had an awful time getting something for DS wedding last year. Clothes either too young or too frumpy. Women in shops can not be trusted either.IMO..

If you feel that you look good that is the battle won. If DH is less than supportive ask someone who may be more candid and trustworthy.
It could be he thinks he is being funny.......little emotional intelligence more like.

Black trousers and smart top sound just right. Enjoy yourself.

ninathenana Sun 01-Nov-15 10:55:11

Yes, post a pic Teetime it can be 'headless' if your shy

Luckygirl Sun 01-Nov-15 10:53:00

Lovely man!grin

Do you know I would be tempted to change your mind about your outfit and put on something totally outrageous: flourescent pink plunge neckline top, red trousers, lots of bling. Thne ask him if it will be alright and see what he says! grin

Liz46 Sun 01-Nov-15 10:49:48

Oh dear Teetime, I've got an OH like that too. I rely on my friends instead. Much better.

Alea Sun 01-Nov-15 10:45:38

PS post a pic so we can all tell him how wrong he is give our opinion!

Alea Sun 01-Nov-15 10:44:34

Teetime was that just before you clonked him?grin
I think, for what it is worth, that it sounds ideal, my sort of outfit (having likewise failed to pursue the diet I planned when DD announced their wedding date in December.)

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 01-Nov-15 10:35:24

I love black velvet trousers for special occasions. Can't go wrong.

rosequartz Sun 01-Nov-15 10:34:36

Plonk him in a corner and enjoy yourself - the outfit sounds lovely! grin]

SloeGinny Sun 01-Nov-15 10:29:36

It sounds lovely Teetime. If you're still unsure, perhaps add a black wrap or long scarf, it may make you feel a bit more sure of yourself and can be easily discarded.

Get dressed up, have a look in the mirror and make your own mind up. DH's judgements are often unreliable I've found!

kittylester Sun 01-Nov-15 10:28:46

Ignore him! I loved the top when you showed us in MH and it definitely wasn't beige!! grin I also like the trousers you had in the bag! You'll be the most glamorous granny there!!

Teetime Sun 01-Nov-15 10:16:27

My big grandson is getting married in Florida on 5th Nov but having an evening wedding party when he comes back at the end of the month. We are going. I have failed to diet and am therefore panicking about clothes. I decided to wear the nice slouchy black velvet trousers I bought last Xmas and wore twice and a new champagne (not beige) sparkly top I bought last week in Monsoon. I am nervous about my outfit. I tried it all on and asked DH if it would be alright. 'Of course' he gaily announced 'it won't be well lit'. What can I say? hmm
