Because of a couple of scary early morning vertigo attacks I've reconsidered security in my home. A neighbour keeps a spare key, fine.,they have done for years. I no longer leave a key in the lock at night as 'no one would need to get in at night'.
Someone did need to, a paramedic sent in response to my emergency call at 4am. I had previously been told by a friend's daughter working for social services that the police would be likely to break my door down.
To avoid that I explained to the dispatcher who had the key, the name and that it might take a while for the person to get down to the door. Understandably the paramedic had to explain he wasn't an early morning visitor, complete with luggage, trying to move in!!
Since them I've realised that it would be better to keep a key near my bed, in a noticeable bag or box. Then I could probably manage to open a window and throw it down to, for instance, the paramedic!
What do other people living alone do?
Do I need an alarm pendant now, what's your experience please? Thanks!
