Bitchin' or Banter?

(154 Posts)

I have "lurked" on Gransnet for a while and I am astonished at the amount of bitching going on here mainly amongst the usual crew of regular posters. Or is is just banter? I realise that political threads can get heated but even the lighter subjects often become littered with rude and sometimes very nasty comments. Or am I just too sensitive? Maybe this the norm on forums, even those for the more mature. I am new to this so don't know.

granjura Thu 08-Oct-15 15:35:59

TriciaF Thu 08-Oct-15 15:34:25

He not her
"I'm a selfmade man and she's a manmade woman."

TriciaF Thu 08-Oct-15 15:33:22

Alea - her sounds like my neighbour, you can have too much of it hmm

Alea Thu 08-Oct-15 15:29:38

Sounding a bit acerbic, jngl, something up?

Alea Thu 08-Oct-15 15:27:03

I have no shame do I?
Sadly I don't think he handled it all that well, although she maintained a hair flicking fascination when he went on at some length about his bowel cancer in 2000 and something!
She was more excited by his BMW and Triumph motorbikes, but the interest in pics on his phone of his dogs and (grown up ) children was unconvincing.
Who needs a cabaret??
Mind you I wish we had been sitting further away, TMI!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 08-Oct-15 15:22:55

Oh, I wish I could laugh at these little things. Why do I have to insist on stuff being funny?! sad

hmm

rosequartz Thu 08-Oct-15 15:17:25

That sounds really interesting ^Alea*
I do like being nosy eaves-dropping people watching grin

rosesarered Thu 08-Oct-15 15:15:29

Actually, I thought this thread was the friendliest in a long time. All thanks to Ramona and her OP.

Alea Thu 08-Oct-15 15:15:06

No, no, romona is presumably still lunching! Just DH and self, plus, alas too close, a "mature" couple (60!ish any maybe 50?) clearly internet dating and vying with each other to create a good impression ( converted Manor House, him! a bit flash, wild boar hunting in Estonia, her looking really tarty
Resisted the temptation to just say Get a room!!! grin

rosequartz Thu 08-Oct-15 15:09:38

Alea have you been out to lunch with Ramona confused

Some people do lead exciting lives, I just went to the supermarket this morning.
Now a cup of brew and perhaps Escape to the Country!

Alea Thu 08-Oct-15 15:03:14

Brasserie Blanc, and yes, a tint tincture was taken. Off to have a nap in front of Escape to the Country (hang on a minute, I live in the countryconfused )

rosequartz Thu 08-Oct-15 14:57:22

I'm off to join a boozy lunch soon and I won't post when I get back as the line between bitch and banter may become blurred
Sounds good, are you having roastchicken ?
Cheers wine

rosequartz Thu 08-Oct-15 14:55:30

will never cease to amaze me. Don't know whether to laugh or cry- best laugh really and time for [ roastchicken] literally
Late lunch or very early dinner? Smells good, anyway.
Have a laugh, no point in crying smile

Indinana Thu 08-Oct-15 14:23:31

until someone decides to put a rather (large? annoying?) oar into things grin

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 08-Oct-15 14:14:47

I did say it was usually friendly banter. Nothing friendly about this thread that I can see.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 08-Oct-15 14:12:59

What?! Can you really take that post as arse licking? How? confused

granjura Thu 08-Oct-15 14:07:46

And this said almost in the same breath as:

Oh, I get so bored with the arse licking that goes on on Gransnet. hmm

will never cease to amaze me. Don't know whether to laugh or cry- best laugh really and time for roastchicken literally.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 08-Oct-15 12:59:55

Yes. It usually is fairly friendly banter. Just until someone decides to put a rather oar onto things. Then it becomes nasty and hurtful, as is often the intention.

Alea Thu 08-Oct-15 11:46:37

Not the only thing which might become blurred! grinwinewine

ramona Thu 08-Oct-15 11:43:41

This thread could run and run (off on a tangent) so I will take it that the answer to my original question is it's banter then.

I'm off to join a boozy lunch soon and I won't post when I get back as the line between bitch and banter may become blurred.

I need something stronger than decaf tea now
