Sadly I don't think he handled it all that well, although she maintained a hair flicking fascination when he went on at some length about his bowel cancer in 2000 and something!
She was more excited by his BMW and Triumph motorbikes, but the interest in pics on his phone of his dogs and (grown up ) children was unconvincing.

Yes. It usually is fairly friendly banter. Just until someone decides to put a rather oar onto things. Then it becomes nasty and hurtful, as is often the intention.

This thread could run and run (off on a tangent) so I will take it that the answer to my original question is it's banter then.
