What's your favourite sandwich for lunch? When you are on your own, and can sit down , read a magazine, a chapter of your book, or visit Gransnet.
Mine is a warm - hard boiled egg, with shredded lettuce and salad cream, on buttered bread. I have just made it, and a great big mug of frothy coffee, heaven on a pretty tray.

Kittylester - given up on Genius since they "improved" the recipe but Tesco own brand is excellent - and much cheaper!

kittylester Sat 19-Sept-15 09:57:45

Thanks Cari - I'l try that one as well. The nuisance is that they keep 'improving' the recipes, I try a new loaf and then I end up throwing it away as the bread is so flipping awful anyway. sad

My very, very favourite sandwich is a chip butty made from real chips, pappy white bread, loads of butter, loads of salt, vinegar and brown sauce. As I could only eat the potatoes and butter there doesn't seem a lot of point and I've not had one for about 10 years sadsad

My best friend at school had baked bean sandwiches hmm
My favourite is sourdough bread, mozzarella, tomato and pesto, DH says you can't beat a BLT or fish fingers with tomato sauce.

FIL would only eat ginger biscuit sandwiches.

Peanut butter or marmite or even peanut butter and marmite!
-Just thinking about it makes my mouth water!

Love a granary roll, with butter, cheese and onion! Used to have problems with IBS but the tablets am now on have made it go away, so can eat any bread ( but prefer granary). Many years ago used to have egg mayonnaise and smokey bacon crisps in a roll! Must try that again....

Kittylester - we have tried most of them. Waitrose good (seeded) but tiny slices) Genius was great, now rubbish as super expensive and end up having to chuck half of it. But the Tesco one stays in one piece and looks and (apparently) tastes like "real" bread. Same size as the bigger Genius loaf but a pound less (and currently on offer at £1.50 a loaf)

I'm off to Tesco this morning cari so thanks for the tips. I'm getting some ciabatta too! smile

I'm not gf but my best friend/carer/housemate is. We've tried godnoes how many sorts of bread, currently she quite likes the Warburton's sandwich thins. Any not tasty bread is blitzed into breadcrumbs with seasonings and herbs, them stored in the freezer. Good for coating things, stuffing etc. I even get a loaf of gf bread (yes, even Genius when the Co-op sell it off cheap when it's reaching sell by date) expressly for this
We love stuffing chez nous. No filthy comments please!

I love smoked salmon and soft chees on granary bread. Also tinned salmon and cucumber (Asda sell skinless and boneless tinned salmon which is reasonably priced). I also love a toasted cheese sandwich yum.
I watched a chef on TV this week make the most delicious looking toasted cheese sandwich. I'm going to give that one a try this week. He said those cheese slice things make the best toasted cheese sandwiches.

kittylester Sat 19-Sept-15 11:44:38

katy, have you seen the one on Utube where he also puts cheese on the outside of the bread and fries it in butter. Looks fabulous!!

KatyK Sat 19-Sept-15 12:15:12

Oo no I haven't kitty I will take a look. The one on TV last week was fried in the pan for a couple of minutes and then he put the pan in the oven until the cheese oozed out. Yum

Matella its very easy, normally I soak the Yellow split peas in cold water over night, next day I boil them with any kind of ham or gammon available, joints, hocks, pieces smoked or not. when the meats cooked, remove it and keep boiling the peas until its like a thick cream consistency, stirring all the time towards the end, then pour into a pudding bowl to let it set

Mentioned before my mum loved Fry's Turkish Delight chololate bar sandwiches. confused

I enjoy coronation chicken my self but brown bread banana sandwiches are a favourie of mine too.

People spend a small fortune on buying take away sandwiches instead of getting up 10 minutes earlier don't they. Then moan money is tight.

kittylester Sat 19-Sept-15 14:31:56

I just had DS ciabatta with cheese, red onion, tomato and mayo - it was lovely. Thank you to who ever suggested that I try them again - I think it was mini!

MiniMouse Sat 19-Sept-15 15:15:24

Can only take the credit for mentioning GF ciabatta - not the yummy sounding filling grin

"A good deal of the time what I eat depends on what needs using up."

grin. Poor old Bags! grin

Sliced banana with Ovaltine sprinkled on top is a nice one. Yum!

Gagagran Sat 19-Sept-15 15:44:07

But sometimes that makes the most creative and tasty sandwiches jings!

That's how I discovered one of my favourites - marmite with thick sliced of cucumber (which needed using up!) wink

Gagagran Sat 19-Sept-15 15:44:42

slices not sliced

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 19-Sept-15 15:46:37

Yeah. I don't really feel sorry for 'er Gaga. wink grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 19-Sept-15 15:47:22

Love marmite. And cucumber. Not sure about together though. Don't know why.

Auntieflo Sat 19-Sept-15 15:52:22
