Soop's Kindly Kitcheners

soop Rory is well worth every piece of chicken that he is given if he now repairs clocks. I have one here which requires his careful attention. It belonged to my parents who both died in 1979 and I would think that the clock died during one of the many moves that it had. I just have not got around to finding out if it is repairable.

Charleygirl Rory has made himself most useful. We have a beautiful old clock that hasn't worked for well over a year. We couldn't bear to put into a cupboard and we couldn't find a clock mender in this area. On Thursday, Rory had one of his famous spins and bumped into the table on which the clock stands. It ticked...chimed and has kept good time ever since. Remarkable cat! We keep telling him so.

Not just Yorkshire folk nellie we have always loved it. The walk up to the "pavement" and on to the Tarn. I just wish we could do it now.

Hello kitcheners! I am back from a week in the Yorkshire Dales. I am coming to understand why people from Yorkshire keep going on and on about their beautiful county. These are views of the area near Malham Cove.

One of the odd occasions when that handsome beast was awake.

Here for Rory's countless fans, is a photo of him taken two years ago. He's wearing his self-important expression.

number I'm truly happy that you are happy. It's always stressful when awaiting a reaction from the person who is familiar with an animal. Photos give some information, it's true, but I have to do my best to try to understand the nature of a much loved family pet.

The wee card was for sale in a lovely, new Campbeltown shop. All goods are made in Kintyre. I think that we should visit the shop whenever we need something that has local connections. x

I received a lovely delivey from the postman this morning, a lovely portrait of our daughter`s German Shepherd, Duke, painted by our wonderfully talented Soop. It`s uncannily like him. Thank you Soop xx

The weather is certainly lively. Snow on the Paps of Jura. High winds and huge waves. I haven't seen the ferry this afternoon. Must be too rough for the crossing to Islay.

We visited our pal in the care home. One lady singing at the top of her voice, with her eyes closed. Her companion repeatedly thanked her and attempted unsuccessfully to engage her in conversation instead.

I'm about to look on-line for a Saltire to replace our neighbour's tattered flag. It was spanking new when he married his lovely wife. Since her death, the flag has become sad to behold. Hopefully, a new flag will lift his spirits.

Charleygirl We were blown through the village on a morning constitutional. MacSporran needed an elastic chin strap because his hat kept taking flight.

jollyg Inky black clouds. Choppy sea. Always beautiful no matter what the weather chooses to do. I'm about to sketch a cat that our granddaughter has adopted. She is very like Rory's daughter.

Please batten down the hatches, as, from the MET office[ often wrong] predict strong winds, further N than you, but you never know.

Maybe a pic of waves rather than sunsets , your forte, might appear tomorrow.

There is nothing like your own home to which you returned, especially with a cat who now appreciates your company and what you do for him. I also hope that you had a glass of something to make up for the fraught two days. It is a long distance to travel and it is not technically winter yet. I am so pleased that you both had a lovely lunch with bags.

Thank you for your kind comments. We both slept well last night. Driving through flooded roads was extremely challenging. However, we did what we set out to do. MacSporran lit a log fire last night. It was our way of celebrating an achievement. Rory was very vocal. He appeared to be delighted to have us home.

stillhere The sound of bells I would tolerate. The boom of guns...now that would really upset me.

A lovely man in our village has chosen to return to his own home rather than go into a hospital in Glasgow. He has terminal cancer. We spoke to his wife this morning. She told us that he is peaceful. she has the support of the Macmillan nurses.

You would just see my back!

Today I spent most of my time in the garden. It was a very peculiar day, because of the non-stop noise all around me, where there is usually silence. My village is small, and we have wild-life nature reserves to our north and a river, but to our East is a big Estate that has shooting parties. As a result, because the church bells all around were ringing all morning and the guns were firing non-stop, I half expected to see a platoon of soldiers appearing over the hill. It was a very strange combination of sounds and not at all pleasant.

I cannot tell you lot how wonderful it feels to be back in our cosy home. It has been a very busy (at times trying) two days.
Meeting up with bags was special. Always lots to say and the time passes far too quickly.
MacSporran's condition, as with any chronic illness, continues to progress slowly. He has more swollen lymph nodes and a couple of pretty students doctors were invited to probe them "gently"...[wink He's to have a CT scan prior to the next appointment. In the meantime he continues to be bright in spirit. Bless him.
My consultation in the New Victoria (bags has been there when we last had an appointment) was one of the best to date. A lady consultant who was thorough and so easy to discuss matters with. I'm to have an examination under a mild anaesthetic once she has discussed things with a team that specialises in hernias of the type I seem prone to. Also, I can blame heavy babies, a difficult birth, stitches, total hysterectomy blah blah. It is the muscular wall dividing the front and back passage that is extremely weak. Nip and tuck surgery carried out about two years ago and eleven years ago in Cornwall, holds for a time...after which...I'm back to coping with some fairly embarrassing symptoms.
I'm about to check a very long list of emails. After which, time to relax and make a fuss of Rory. He was delighted to welcome us home. His "minder" tells us that he was a "very good boy!"
I shall spend more time in the kitchen tomorrow. Once again, it's good to be home.
