It seems so trivial in this time of concern for others but I re discovered something wonderful yesterday- Chocolate Digestives! I hadn't had one for years but unexpected visitors meant had to buy emergency biscuits from a limited selection. When I actually bit into one.........................Bliss!
Anything else I should try?

DH loves custard tarts. Can't see it myself. Now treacle!!!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Sept-15 18:49:15

No! Don't try peanut brittle! Asking for trouble. I sometimes look longingly at nougat, but I daren't. Actually, nougat never quite lived up to expectations. It always looks so pretty...

Now, Coconut Ice! Yum!!!

NanSue Sat 05-Sept-15 18:00:42

Peanut brittle. Not easy on the teeth though!

Ready sliced malt loaf still sticks together. I slice it lengthways - saves a lot of faffing about. grin

Stansgran Sat 05-Sept-15 17:24:01

You mean there are people who slice malt loaf?

Luckygirl Sat 05-Sept-15 17:03:32

I cut soreen with my electric carving knife, but, as has been said, you can get it ready-cut.

or smile even

I was in our local Tesco Express with my granddaughter last week and she pointed to the shelf and said 'oo look at those nan'. They were giant custard creams. Just one in each pack but BIG [SMILE]

Soreen is too wet and sticky IMO and gives you instant heartburn.
Sainsburys do good egg custard tarts.

Lona Sat 05-Sept-15 16:52:53

I didn't know they made banana Soreen!
<just nipping to the shop>

ninathenana Sat 05-Sept-15 16:45:39

I had them today Nellie !
They were slightly soggy bottomed though. Tesco's ones are better IMHO

Nelliemoser Sat 05-Sept-15 14:01:14

Custard creams are lovely. They have been around for ever and were still very popular with the younger staff at when I was still at work. It was well worth me taking in plain chocolate digestives as most people prefered the milk chocolate type.

One thing I haven't had for ages are those lovely individual egg custard tarts. ASDA's own used to be very good. Nice pastry and plenty of nutmeg.

annodomini Sat 05-Sept-15 13:29:44

I never buy biscuits, only eat OPBs (other people's biscuits) grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Sept-15 13:21:27

I haven't eaten a custard cream in years. sad I love those biscuits.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 05-Sept-15 13:20:33

You can't do this! You'll all be fat I tell you - FAT!

kittylester Sat 05-Sept-15 13:16:05

Coolgran, you can buy ready sliced Soreen.

Alea Sat 05-Sept-15 13:13:00

Ke*****s cornflakes (not supermarket 'own brand'') with ice cold full cream milk.

ninathenana Sat 05-Sept-15 12:53:57

vq mmm I love soreen. I introduced the DGS' to it, they love it too. Have you tried the banana flavour? yum !

fluttERBY123 Sat 05-Sept-15 11:58:31

Bourbons.

Coolgran65 Fri 04-Sept-15 18:14:14

Hmmm... Soreen, we had it yesterday, always with butter.
However, impossible to cut a 'clean' slice.

Nelliemoser Fri 04-Sept-15 17:29:04

Vampirequeen Mmm yes! That is real comfort food.

Greyduster Fri 04-Sept-15 17:04:36

jane10 when I was trying to get into one of the women's services in the early sixties, they said I needed to put on five pounds before they would accept me, as I was under their weight limit. I did it in large part by bingeing on McVities plain chocolate digestives. Couldn't stand the sight of them for a while after that, but I do love them now! They have to be McVities though, whether chocolate or plain old digestives.

Today I have rediscovered Soreen Malt Loaf with butter. Do you remember the advert....."Don't forgot the Soreen, Doreen."

Jane10 Fri 04-Sept-15 13:49:28

After my last cholesterol test I went back to Lurpak. After all that Benecol I needed a reward!

NotTooOld Fri 04-Sept-15 13:33:39

Just rediscovered full fat cream cheese. Avoided for years due to fat content but why should I forgo delicious food at my age? PS Unfortunately I still feel guilty eating eat!
