Day One of my personal challenge, no alcohol for September - anyone care to join me ...? brew

Luckygirl Wed 02-Sept-15 21:58:17

I have not drunk any alcohol at all for more years than I remember. I stopped because it made me throw up, in even tiny quantities - so that was a good incentive. I enjoy lots of different fruit juices and teas. And water! You can survive without it I promise you!

jogginggirl Wed 02-Sept-15 21:42:34

Hey Anya ... how did you get on at the dentist? Hold on to that resolve, it's nearly bedtime ... Here's a nice brew and cupcake to help you through xx

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 21:01:03

Feeling deprived.

Ana Wed 02-Sept-15 20:50:38

Same here, Maggiemaybe - I will admire from afar...

Maggiemaybe Wed 02-Sept-15 20:46:28

No, I don't think I could last a full month without killing someone. But good luck to the three of you, and all power to your elbows, inactive though they will be. smile

How is it going tonight Anya and welcome Gill2008 - definitely the more the merrier! I was out between 5pm - 7.30pm - so passed the danger time - eating and being entertained by the 6-year-old diva ...lol! We actually went to the pub to eat but nobody was drinking alcohol (certainly not the diva) so it was easier than I thought it would be.
Those Morrisons' deals are great aren't they Gagamarnie - my DH is obsessed with them .. LOL I'm already looking forward to 1st October x

Gagamarnie Wed 02-Sept-15 19:17:18

Sorry, but I tried dry January this year and failed after only one day! Besides, I've just stocked up on Morrisons' 25% off 6 bottles or more last weekend. It would be silly to let them gather dust and there might be another offer before Christmas, so I need to be ready :-).

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 18:52:15

Welcome Gill the more the merrier.smile

Gill2008 Wed 02-Sept-15 16:55:19

I'll join in - have been suggesting this kind of thing to DH for a while but had no backup from him. However he suggested going dry for September 'because I had suggested it before"! Started yesterday and we went to see our daughter and new baby, on the way home - after only an hour - he needed a drink. The baby isn't 4 weeks old till tomorrow!! I am going to need some support here I think.

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 12:26:17

And just in case anyone thinks my cup overfloweth, I have a dentist appointment at 4.00 pm sad.

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 12:24:57

and slimy!

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 12:23:54

It's very em........green envy

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 12:22:47

Well, I wouldn't go that far....I've just come back from walking to the shops (4785 steps) and am enjoying having an early lunch of watercress and spinach soup. Yummy hmm

jogginggirl Wed 02-Sept-15 10:38:53

Oh yes ... it was one of the reasons we bought the house wink Are you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning Anya ...

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 10:23:05

You have a wine fridge?

jogginggirl Wed 02-Sept-15 09:23:59

This is what we need on the wine fridge Anya ...

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 09:03:14

Good JG that's 1 down and 29 to go!

I've decided to give the money I save to breast cancer research as my estranged sister in terminally ill with it.

Onward and upward ... or something like that smile

jogginggirl Wed 02-Sept-15 08:52:45

Anya - well done! I was fine once I got through that awkward early evening time - I may have glanced wistfully at the wine a couple of times but DH is supporting and dutifully sipped on LOOL with me grin Allowed myself half a glass of tonic water with dinner - I know how to live!! I have decided that all money that won't be spent on wine will go to those unfortunate people/families in Calais... There is a just giving page (which I have already donated to) but you can also send clothes/bedding etc via Amazon and food via Sainsbury's - I can surely go without wine for a month when I look at what they are going through sad ....

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 08:04:05

Night 1 went ok my - but then it would, wouldn't it, being fired up,with enthusiasm and Good Intentions, and fuelled by Jane's LOOL water (of which I made far too much, what do I think I am, a camel?)

How did you go on JG?

Liz46 Tue 01-Sept-15 22:09:48

My OH has suggested we have a dry September. o.k. so far but my heart isn't in it.

I was just slightly worried about anyone sipping the water with fruit juice in it over a period of time. It could be very bad for your tooth enamel.

Good luck to those of you who are really trying.

jogginggirl Tue 01-Sept-15 21:16:08

Have a lovely time Iam64 - you carry on enjoying smile

Iam64 Tue 01-Sept-15 18:39:41

I'd give it a go But, I'm off to Greece in September and will enjoy a glass of wine most evenings. I may think about a bit of abstinence when I get home but as I have only one small glass - maybe I'll carry on enjoying it smile

Anya Tue 01-Sept-15 17:35:08

blush

jogginggirl Tue 01-Sept-15 17:15:49

Oh well done on the glass of water emoticon Anya - DH just popped out to buy me some fresh oranges, limes and lemons - in the meantime I am having a cup of white tea brew whilst ironing - keeping busy is key! Thanks ginny - all support is welcome x

rosesarered Tue 01-Sept-15 16:55:48

I don't have alcohol every day/night probably 2/3 times a week,( having said that, it could mean2/3 bottles of spirits, but it isn't) more like one unit at a time.I think that's a reasonable amount, so won't be having a dry spell. a dry spell without cake wouldn't do me any harm though.cupcake
