Day One of my personal challenge, no alcohol for September - anyone care to join me ...? brew

Anya Tue 20-Oct-15 22:27:39

We picked him up from vet at tea time. His eyes are so swollen and red from the soot and fumes. Apparently when he was brought in (by a neighbour) they thought it was a dark grey dog - he's cream. They had to bathe him to get all the soot and toxins out. But he was stuck in that hell for 45 minutes and he's traumatised too.

He is so defeated and lethargic. Will see what tomorrow brings.

Ana Tue 20-Oct-15 22:31:10

Oh dear, I do hope he rallies Anya - what a horrible experience for him and for all of you...sad

Alea Tue 20-Oct-15 22:35:05

A dogbiscuit for Fido and a cupcake and wine for you!

annodomini Tue 20-Oct-15 22:50:21

Just caught up with your disastrous news, Anya and can't say how sorry I am to hear how awful it has been for you and the poor dog. I'm glad you are unharmed - physically at any rate - and hope the dog will recover his spirits soon. wine and flowers

jogginggirl Tue 20-Oct-15 23:19:10

Hope things look better tomorrow Anya and that poor doggy is a bit brighter smile
Wherever you are - sending good wishes for some sleep tonight moon XX

Iam64 Wed 21-Oct-15 08:24:17

Good Morning - I hope things are a bit easier for anya and her family, including her dog, today.

Anya Wed 21-Oct-15 12:10:49

Sitting here in the ruins of my formerly lovely house. Been seeing if there's anything I can salvage, as all my clothes are damaged and the soot doesn't wash out. I was always saying I'd check out all my old knickers and buy new!!

Update on Murphy. He ate a bit this morning and I've given his face a thorough wash because I suspected the soot was still then and burning his eyes. He has since perked up and started lifting his head up. He's pretty blind due to the soot, but every time I wash the gunge out of his poor little eyes, I feel there's a bit more soot washing out too.

I'm hopeful he'll pick up as though we're parked in our DD's box room and living out of a couple of carrier bags, he's getting loads of cuddles from the GSs.

Thanks for your good wishes smile

I've just rung the local school to tell them that their pupils saved Murphy's life, but spotting the smoke and ringing the fire brigade. I don't think he'd have survived much longer without their prompt action. smile

Ana Wed 21-Oct-15 12:16:47

Good to hear Murphy's perking up a bit, Anya, hope he mades a full recovery soon.

I do feel for you, having to camp at your DD's and not having much idea of how long it'll be before your own house is habitable again. It must be heartbreaking trying to salvage the odd bits that you can...sad

Well done those children! smile

Iam64 Wed 21-Oct-15 12:18:25

Anya, I don't want to up the anti, but we moved out of our house after a kitchen fire - the smoke and smog remained. All our books and clothes were sent off to be professionally cleaned, 3 times, because the smell lingered. We didn't want new books and occasionally one of us will pick up one of those and that smokey smell drifts upwards (neither of us think it's imagination)
Our insurance company paid for us to rent somewhere, so we could keep the dog with us. He had only been with us 3 months and had just begun to put weight on and feel part of the family. He did cough and his eyes ran and was seen by the vet a couple of times but rallied, thankfully.
So kind of you to phone the school to thank their pupils for raising the alarm.

Look after yourself, it's a trying experience flowers

jogginggirl Wed 21-Oct-15 22:00:43

Anya hope Murphy has recovered his appetite through the day and that the GS's continue to spoil him smile

So lovely - that in the midst of all your angst - you thought to call the school and commend the children who saved the day!

It's lovely that you have found refuge with your DD but I hope it won't be long before you can set up camp in your 'own' place even if only temporarily... keep those spirits up and hopefully enjoy a glass of wine

flowers X

Well at least all this to-ing and fro-ing has pushed my steps up to 8000+ yesterday and 7500 today.

I'll be able to relax more when the loss adjuster/assessor (getting muddled now) has been tomorrow.

Murphy definately picking up smile - much better than this time last night.

Diet OK but wine more than I ought but it's not every day your house has a fire and you're made homeless.

Hope everyone else is OK.

Anya Wed 21-Oct-15 22:30:04

jogginggirl Thu 22-Oct-15 07:12:42

Well done on the steps Anya --something positive smile
Good luck with the loss adjuster/assessor today - let us know how it goes brew

Maggiemaybe Thu 22-Oct-15 11:11:04

Good news on Murphy, Anya, and you keep taking the wine. I hope it goes as well as can be expected today.

I'm slacking a bit this week and will have some making up to do. On Tuesday I managed over 6000 just walking round the shops, which surprised me. At least half of them must have been from wandering up and down the many aisles of Boots looking for a wonder skin cream DH had seen advertised - "The name's got Derm in it and it's in a blue tube" (which applied to at least half their stock). grin

I must confess we had a curry lunch again, with goodness knows how many calories. Then the pub quiz, the g & ts, the pizza supper...

Yesterday was another fast day, but I was on Nana duty, so the only real exercise was the walk to Toddler Group. I barely scraped 3000.

I'm currently negotiating with DH as to who's to stay in when today to await our new cooker delivery. With any luck I'll get out this afternoon, and with any luck it won't be pouring down by then! grin

Ana Thu 22-Oct-15 11:29:21

Good news re Murphy, Anya, hope he continues to improve and that you get some idea of where you stand insurance-wise.

Maggie, it's surprising how much you can walk during a shopping trip, isn't it? I too managed over 6,000 steps on Tuesday - met friends for coffee and parked a good distance away from the café, then managed to park somewhere near the town centre and visited the shops I haven't been to for a while including M&S (waste of time!).

Only did 4,000 yesterday, but I'm definitely getting more 'into' walking now. I ca believe it when people say it's addictive...wink

jogginggirl Thu 22-Oct-15 12:18:53

Tuesday's morning jog/run 'twixt Pyrenees and Black mountains totalled nearly 7,000 steps - shopping etc.. for the rest of the day gave me a total of 12,489 steps!!!

Since then about 4,000 steps each day, far too much wine gluten-free croissants for breakfast (yes, they actually do them in France) grin copious amounts of cheese and sitting around..... blush

So, well done to the rest of you - especially Anya with so much to think about right now ...
I'm counting on you all to give me a kick up the backside some encouragement when I am home wink

Anya Thu 22-Oct-15 17:13:56

JG yes, that's not good enough! Consider yourself kicked up the backside derrière. Get jogging or you'll have to change your GN user name. I wouldn't have ever thought the very purist French would do gluten-free anything!

Ana had to read that twice just to check you really did say that walking is getting to be addictive grin . But it's very true about walking and shopping. I once did 12,000 + just walking around the shops in Liverpool.

Think Maggie needs a kick up the proverbal too. Curry lunches shock pizza hmm G & Ts envy

Update; Murphy continuing to improve smile have seen a 3-bed semi that'll do nicely for the next 3-4 months while our home is repaired and things seem to be moving along. Shouldn't be any problem as we're well insured but I never trust insurance companies hmmso will keep everything crossed.

Ana Thu 22-Oct-15 18:48:56

I don't understand why you had to read my post twice, Anya, I'mm actually quite hurt...confused

Glad all's going as well as can be expected at your end, though.

Anya Thu 22-Oct-15 18:50:23

Sorry Ana sad

Maggiemaybe Thu 22-Oct-15 19:13:01

Think Maggie needs a kick up the proverbial too. shock

Well, I'm shocked, Anya, but have to admit you're probably right!

I did have a totally unnecessary walk round the local area this afternoon leaving DH on cooker delivery duty (it didn't arrive till 1800h, would you believe, and he is now testing it out by making the tea smile). I'm only on 4410 steps though, so am going to wheel out my old stepper tonight and step away whilst watching television. I seem to remember it was squeaking fit to drown out any dialogue last time it saw the light of day, so I'd better look for the WD40 as well!

Thank goodness you're well insured, Anya!! smile

jogginggirl Fri 23-Oct-15 16:44:42

Last day here in rural France - two day drive home and then back to it!! Less of the sipping and more of the stepping - it's been fab but time to get back to real life hmm grin

Please be gentle with your kick up the backside encouragement - it may take a few days to catch up with you all!
If you see a new member with the user-name laggingbehind - you'll know who it is grin

I hope the stepper is working for you Maggie - I SAID I HOPE THE STEPPER IS WORKING FOR YOU Maggie - not sure if you found the WD40 ...wink
Ana I'm sure Anya* was only joking hmm and she is having a tough time just now wink - we need to go easy on her ...

I have a great image of you Anya - going through your day with everything crossed - must be tricky when it comes to stepping wink Seriously - do hope all is on course, that Murphy is feeling better and that you are finding some space to enjoy a brew or a wine

Bon weekend à tous XX

Ana Fri 23-Oct-15 16:49:17

I don't need reminding that Anya's having a tough time at the moment, jogginggirl...hmm

jogginggirl Fri 23-Oct-15 16:51:22

Sorry Ana
sad

Ana Fri 23-Oct-15 16:53:12

I'll keep my modest achievements to myself in future, please pretend I was never on this thread.

sad

Anya Fri 23-Oct-15 19:13:01
