Just what do you think I get up to in my bra Ana I am very very old after all. But oh how I would like the chance. Is this TMI for this thread?

Don't put it in your bra though (unless it's firmly clipped) I've managed to lose two that way!

What have you let yourself in for?

Well I aim for 5000 steps a day and I've only managed 3333 today, and I'm not going to beat myself up about it, as some days I do much more. I suggest that you simply clip it to yourself (somehow) and see what you do each day for a week. Don't push yourself, just see what you do in an average week.

It's a real eye opener.

Then set a target, based on this baseline assessment. Don't set yourself anything too ambitious, you can up it later if you find it too easy.

If you achieve your target reward yourself or or whatever but not strawberry creams then come on here and brag about your success tell us. If you fail then come on here and lie fess up

Ok that is ordered although you foxed me Anya your I-Pad or whatever entered tanitha not tanita but Amazon sorted me out. I've got to do it now haven't I, what have I let myself in for?

Hey hey a convert! I've had a tanitha for 18 months now, and though it's a tad pricey it has been the best ever - even surviving a 40oC wash last spring!!

It's sort of sausage shaped and is telling me I've only done 79 steps today so I need to get off my backside and get moving. I'll take a photo of it and post it on here Ann

I think I will treat myself to a step counter just to keep up you understand. I would hate to eclipse you all and lose three stone. Which do you experts recommend?

I'll second what Ann said about enjoying you weekend JG and it's good that your DB and family have offered some support here.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and invitation to join you and a G&T is more than welcome. jg my H has Alzheimer's and I sense your relief at a few days away from responsibility, just enjoy it and enjoy your family. It is so true also that a sense of humour is so vital in our situation I would go slowly mad otherwise. I live in Cheshire, where are the reindeer to be found? And if Father Christmas is asking for suggestions by proxy,a weekend somewhere very expensive and very luxurious will be most welcome.

Off to see reindeers tomorrow somewhere in Cheshire and hoping Santa makes an appearance.... secretly looking forward to it...

My dm is with my db and family this weekend - I don't want to say it (but it's true), at least I feel completely free to have my own life just for 2 days ..... that's OK isn't it...?

Ann just hang around and see if there's anything you like - I think it's fair to say that we all like wine, some of us really enjoy a gin and tonic ... hic... hic... and we definitely like slobbing around
The exercise thing is just to make us all feel better after over-indulging ...

So glad that this is a better day for you Anya - our emotions just come and catch us out sometimes ... it can be be a good thing invoking fond memories

Strangely, I made 7,507 steps today - all day in the house ... but lots of chasing grand girlies and providing food and cheer for my loved ones - I'm happy....

Ana and Anya - thank you for your lovely comments - I take the view that not many people want to hear moans and groans - and I always see the funny side of life - even when my own is falling apart... humour is to be found everywhere and I am lucky to have friends and family who share my rather warped sense of fun ...and now gransnetters too ... thank you

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. I'm fine today, it was just that lovely nativity that triggered something..

Only made 4259 steps so far and I've no intention of going out again as it's brass monkey weather out there. Might add a few more around the house, or I might just sit and veg out with a hot toddy......,

This is just a quick 'look-in' before the throngs arrive - ds, his 'friend' and diva 1 for the weekend + hopefully dd and diva 2.. Bless - dd has just had a blow-out and is stuck on the side of the road, luckily the man who stopped for her is a reverend and she knows him - as dh said 'divine intervention' just when you need it. So dh now off to pick up diva 2 and see how he can help the situation......

jg, your post reminded me of one of my friends, who answered the door to her young postman similarly robed in a towel (her, not him). She had something to sign for and as she turned away from him to do it one-handed, clutching her towel with the other, the paper kept slipping. So she said "Just put your finger on this, will you?". No response. She turned round to find him fleeing through the front gate.

Sending you hugs, Anya, this time of year must be such a mixture of emotions for you and yours.

My DGS are all too young to be involved in nativities and carol singing, but two of them are old enough to be wide-eyed and giddy with excitement about Christmas . I heard yesterday that two of them, with one or more parents, will be descending on us this pm and staying over, possibly for a few days, as work being done on their house is running behind schedule. I haven't seen them for a couple of weeks, so can't wait, but I'll be spending this morning putting up the rest of the decorations (out of reach where possible) and toddler-proofing the house. Oh, and weeing in a pot for the Clearblue research survey The way things have been this week it could be pure alcohol.

I do love your posts - the way you keep such a sense of humour (and of the ridiculous) when so much is going on in your life is wonderful!

I have done very little today, nipped out to the shops for milk before picking up the GDs from school because they always want it when I haven't got enough (of course, they didn't today...) then spent the rest of the afternoon listening to them practising carols and arguing about meatballs, for some reason

That's made me LOL JG .......but I'm sure that behind the humour there's another story that needs telling. Perhaps tomorrow if you feel up to it (((hugs)))

I must say that at GS3's lovely 'Christmas Production' I had a little moment of pain when I thought of GS2 and how he ought to have been here with us looking forward to Christmas. It will be 7 years since we lost him on December 14th

I want to update on here lovely gang .... so, here we go ...
my day started like this ... I stepped out of the shower with wet hair (obviously) towel wrapped around the body like an Egyptian mummy grandma!! The doorbell rang!! DH had taken diva 2 to school and I guessed it was him having forgotten his keys .... imagine my horror when I ran to the door and saw a complete stranger standing there!!!

The poor man from our local wood yard who was delivering the wooden posts ordered earlier in the week .... was standing there on the other side of the half-glazed door (the half-glazed is really important!!!)
OMG - I just wanted to vanish there and then - it was not a pretty picture ...
Bluster, bluster, "...leaving the posts at the gate" said the man disappearing down the path very, very quickly!!

DH then arrived home to say he had just passed the 'poor' man from the local wood yard and asked 'has he delivered the wooden posts' ... my second opportunity to 'crawl under the door' but how we laughed .... I explained what had happened and asked DH - "did the poor man look traumatised" ..... (((crying,laughing emoticon)))

After that - the day just declined I almost can't bring myself to tell you the rest and so I will skate over it all rapidly
... fast forward - visit to m-i-l in hospital where she is recovering from a hip replacement... I am not her favourite d-i-l so I'm still trying hard after 42 years...... All was going well, even though we were late arriving - but she asked me to sort out her drawers the ones containing her clothes - when my mobile rang.... I couldn't get to it fast enough - so on a ward of 4 ladies where there was a mix of knee replacements or hip replacements - my ring tone is that of Spencer Davis singing "Keep On Running" .... -
I rest my case.....

Now I feel totally inadequate as (apart from the school runs {and the fact that they're still here but plugged into a DVD}) I watched a lovely Christmas production with GS3 as one of 7 wise men and women then home for brunch, then off to shops to look at wallpaper for bedrooms, when they (eventually) get redecorated.

AND I saw what I wanted straight away - just what I had in mind. A sort of white on white apple blossom but with a touch of silver on some flowes and one in a similar colour but with stripes (one of them silver) for DH's the guest room. Very tasteful but fun.

Anyway I'm lost in admiration for your drive and energy - all of you - and a tad bit I do see I've managed 8000 steps again so mustn't be as slothful as I'd imagined.

Things do seem a bit hectic at the moment, but I'm having fun fitting it all in, drinking the and catching up with old friends.

Today I've been up to see my friend for her "teach me the internet, Maggie" session, where we just seem to have gone, again, over old ground, but I have been rewarded for my uselessness with a homemade keema biryani and potato bondas lunch (delicious!). I am now about to get changed to dash off to meet my old works team in town for our Christmas meal. Hope I find some appetite from somewhere in the next two hours!

I've also managed to shampoo the front room carpet and wash the hall and kitchen floors, so am currently at over 5000 steps and feeling rather smug... It'll no doubt be different in a day or two!

I'm exhausted by all your activities today - I have been active but the fitbit refused to work with me and so I have no idea how many steps!! Probably about 12,000 ...LOL

Started with personal training session - went well, followed by visit to the dentist and a visit to some old friends.... All going well until dd called in the middle of a meltdown..... health issues kicking in, 'romantic' troubles [tchangry, panic over an interview tomorrow .... (((emotionally knackered emoticon)))
We will deal with it....

I absolutely love Eggheads but if we had a GN team I would have to send Mr jg - he whoops very loudly every time he gets a correct answer - that's quite a few whoops...

Tomorrow starts with support for dd for interview, transporting dm to db for a 2-day stay (means I don't have to worry about her for one and half days anyway) then drop in on an old friend with christmas gift and then a visit to see m-i-l in hospital following a hip replacement op!! Then I'm guessing it will be home to and then more

The weekend promises a visit from ds and friend plus diva 1 - a visit to reindeer farm with ds, diva 1, dd with diva 2, dh (my bestest friend) and dd's 'friend' ...
On-line shop for dm for Sunday in advance of a visit from younger db for 3 days....
If you weren't tired already and in bed - you surely will be by now....[hmmm]
