Am I alone...

I have just realised how many threads I have posted on this morning.
Am I alone in finding some days so long and tedious?

It is raining, I have cleaned the visiting Guinea pigs out, read the newspaper and planned the meals.
We have no transport and the little local bus doesn't run on Bank Holidays even if DH would go out which he won't. He now has no interest in anything and no conversation that isn't about the weather or what is for lunch/dinner. I do try always to stay positive but today is hard and I do realise that on another thread I was telling someone else to buck up and put a smile on. I must follow my own advice!!

I haven't spoken to a single person for 3 days.
Today's car boot sale cancelled due to incessant rain. Two short walks with dogs.
Yesterday's washing still wet and masses more to do.
Painted a table, cleaned the bathroom, made soup, read newspaper and a daft book. Looked up forecast for tomorrow as I have small children all day and there's NOTHING to do in my small town. Played a bit of Bach.
Found wheelie bin full of maggots. Murdered them with bleach.
Is this as boring to read as it was to live through?

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 31-Aug-15 18:28:43

And I'm going to light the fire.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 31-Aug-15 18:27:52

I am going to make my crumble - at last. DD is going to make her pasta speciality. Things are looking up.

annsixty Mon 31-Aug-15 18:15:16

We have just had a crafty G&T just because it's a BH you understand and I'm feeling just slightly better. I don't want many more like today though.

NotTooOld Mon 31-Aug-15 18:11:36

Just come back from my second short walk of the day in the pouring rain. I bought a mac in Black's sale a few weeks ago and it's hardly been off my back. DH is fiddling about in the garage trying to install a new outside light. He must have taught the neighbours' children a few new swear words while he's been at it.

Rosequartz - what about the traffic coming home?

rosequartz Mon 31-Aug-15 18:08:39

Oven's still dirty, although the shower is clean!

A glass of wine sounds like a good idea as it is BH and I have a tin of salted almonds somewhere. hmm

I could have done a whole lot of knitting today which was my intention, but never mind .....

Teetime Mon 31-Aug-15 17:56:45

Well that's the BH and the summer over, the oven is clean and the showers free of lime scale. I watched 'Network' Peter Finch's last film which was electric but disturbing and appallingly have already had a glass of wine and some cashews nuts. Homemade chicken curry for dinner and the last of the apple and blackberry crumble for supper. DH is bored rigid and fidgety so I 'm here on my lap top in the spare bed room laughingly called my study so he gets a quiet half hour with football highlights (he's too kind to put them on when I'm in the room even though he could watch them on the TV in his study). So waffle waffle waffle- hope you are in for a nice evening. Its eventually stopped raining here at about 5pm.

rosequartz Mon 31-Aug-15 17:44:22

We did go out in the end (DH wanted to look at laptops!).
So glad we were going west on the motorway, not east, which was one long traffic jam for miles and miles.

ninathenana Mon 31-Aug-15 17:41:30

Even though I was up at 6.30 I achieved nothing !
Faffed around with breckie and newspaper and a bit of GN watched HUTH then took DH to get petrol for the mower. Then lunch and and another visit to GN for the past 4 hrs I've been working on a jigsaw. blush

I hate bank holidays. But there was a summer fete here today, so I ventured out to watch the Morris dancers, and bought a couple of old books and hand-crafted cards. The sun actually shone for a while.

NotTooOld Mon 31-Aug-15 16:56:30

The triumph of hope over experience, petra!

Coolgran65 Mon 31-Aug-15 16:55:56

I don't sleep well and was still awake at 5am. Eventually took myself to the guest bedroom where I could fidget to my heart's content. Woke at 10.30am and DH was up. He made bacon sandwiches for brekkie/lunch. DH then freshened grout in bathroom while I did ironing. Hmmmm...with little dips in and out of GN.
Dinner will be yesterday's roast chicken and gravy, stuffing, roast carrots and broccoli cheese, with chips done in the Actifryer.

DH has finished the grouting and has now moved onto the bath sealant.....clearly the sealant is not as cooperative as the grout. I can tell by the change in his choice of language.

You wouldn't believe how crowded Southend sea front is. What is it with people? Do they think that because it's the seaside the sun's going to shine.

Riverwalk Mon 31-Aug-15 16:35:38

My best friend and I had planned to do 3-hour round walking trip along The Thames with a pub lunch at the half-way mark - instead, because of the rain, we went to a local restaurant and had cocktails, wine and rump steak smile

I did intend the day to be healthy but the weather had other ideas.

No pudding though grin

NotTooOld Mon 31-Aug-15 16:31:33

Glad it's not just me and DH. Terrible day here, too. The only bit of excitement was this morning when DH had to go to the shop to collect his 'click and collect' light bulbs. While he was in there I rushed through the rain to the Range shop next door, which was absolutely packed with wet bank holiday makers. I bought some red artificial flowers for the second bedroom before DH called to ask where I was as he was trying to find me. Turned out he was only 10 feet away and couldn't see me. After that we went to Morrison's café where it took them 25 minutes to cook some toast and bring it to us as there was hardly any staff on. I've just been for a 20 minute walk (should have been 25 mins, so I can gain an extra 7 years of life, but it is very boring walking round our village) between rain showers. Oh, well, at least Coronation Street is on tonight.

Ooo glammanana your Swiss roll sounds delicious, just what I could do with, enjoy smile

janeainsworth Mon 31-Aug-15 16:03:47

We are at DD's.
Poured with rain this morning so DGD and I made some chocolate buns (14 in all)
By lunchtime DH & I beginning to get cabin fever so after lunch took DGD to Boscobel House where Charles II hid out from the parliamentarians. Interesting for us but a bit dark and gloomy for a five year old, but she quite liked the four poster bed and the suit of armour. DD stayed home while DGS had a nap and SiL went shopping.
Still raining when we came out, so gave the farmyard & garden a miss and came home, to find only 8 chocolate buns left shock
DgD and DD now icing the buns with vile coloured icing and I am taking DGS out for a little walk as it has stopped raining.

Today I have been mainly using the Karcher to clean the Reception class outdoor area where my DD2 is a teacher! I did it in the persistent drizzle! She , meanwhile , was busy in her class getting the room ready for Thursday after the 'deep clean' which meant everything was in odd places!
Her 2 DDs spent the day at home with their dad. Good old Bank Holidays!!

KatyK Mon 31-Aug-15 15:59:48

We faced a long, depressing, wet Bank Holiday in the house not doing much at all. Then my sister rang and said 'we are going out for a pub lunch, do you fancy coming?' We did fancy going and very nice it was too. smile

Anya Mon 31-Aug-15 15:07:50

Thanks for this thread Ann - it made me feel so guilty I donned wet weather gear and took the old Mutt out for a walk.

But he wasn't impressed!

The house now has that delicious pong aroma of wet dog.

Alea Mon 31-Aug-15 14:48:45

As a teacher, Bank Holidays literally never featured in my thinking as they were always part of a school holiday. I do however feel sorry for the organised BH activities, including DD and SIL's barbecue - as she said, too many people invited to actually fit in the house! So it will be a typically English BH BBQ, golf umbrellas and warm jumpers!

I have done my bit, 15 to lunch and tea yesterday for DGD's FIRST BIRTHDAYsmile!!
So the house was buffed and polished, ironing cleared, bathrooms pristine, everywhere hoovered (and then the DGC arrived!)
I have also taxi'd DD2 to Northampton Theatre this morning for 9 am where she is working on the tech for her new production of Brave New World all this week and I will be picking her up at 10 every night , so I feel perfectly entitled to chill out, slump in front of the TV (what do you mean Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's not on?) and pick at leftovers!
Activities for DGC? Apart from CBeebies, do you remember raindrop races down the windowpane from our childhood? We knew how to make our own entertainment in the good old days! grin

glammanana Mon 31-Aug-15 14:40:55

Whilst sitting here this am doing precisely nothing really I remembered it was my friends wedding anniversary to-morrow so had to shoot off to Aldi and buy a couple of bunches of the closed lilies that she loves so much whilst there also bought some extras for the fridge which mr.g insists we do not need either that or buy a larger fridge but I insist it will save me from going again on Wednesday to top up.
I am now back to browsing the posts and catching up with everything before doing a quick and easy salad for tea,oh and I made a strawberry swissroll with excess fruit left from yesterday I have some double cream going begging so that will top it off nicely.

merlotgran Mon 31-Aug-15 14:20:48

Such a boring day here as well. DH wanted to go to B&Q to look at shower cubicles but the thought of being stuck in traffic in driving rain with loads of other people not knowing what to do with themselves put me right off so he retreated to his shed to potter with God knows what.

In the meantime I made some plum jam to go in a Victoria Sponge. The DGSs will be back this evening after a visit to their Dad so they might fancy some cake!! (my excuse)

Looks like an afternoon in front of the telly. hmm

POGS Mon 31-Aug-15 14:20:46

Hubby bought the full series of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes and I started watching them last night and I am going to settle down and give them another good airing.

It's nice to be able to watch them again because apart from the fact I understand the story line now confused I realize how clever the story was.

Can't help to have a quick 'dip' into GN though can you. smile

vegasmags Mon 31-Aug-15 14:17:42

No ann it's definitely not just you. I think there shouid be a law banning wet bank holidays. I tried to have a lie in, but was awakened by an early phone call. Emptied the dishwasher. Starting sorting out clothes for my imminent holiday and then went into panic mode as all I seem to have is a scruffy old collection of ill fitting garments. Then drove into Stockport and bought 2 pairs of trousers cheaply from Gap outlet. Couldn't face trying to find co-ordinating tops for them so came home and have just collapsed on the sofa. That's it for today. grin
