I could hardly believe it when I looked at the news on my phone this morning to discover that 70 people had died in the back of the lorry in Austria. It's appalling, how can one human being allow this to happen to another?

Yes there is
www.reprieve.org.uk
Couldn't give a direct link as it kept my info on.

From Germany,
The refugees are here in our town. It does you good to see that they are real people, there were families at the market and on the bus ( with their pre paid bus tickets)
I was pleased to see them tucking in to good wholesome German bread and rolls and cheese in Stuttgart. At long tables with Germans waiting on them and children drinking milk and beginning to play again.
We have no more accomodation left but there are gymnasiums in schools and colleges and they get beds donated by IKEA and al least the 'rooms' are partitioned for familes.

The EU is not a police state. What can Germany or Britain do if the Hungarians behave so abominally. Of course they condemn it but considering the place, how could police forces from France or Denmark get there to bring order? It is scandalous but not the EU's fault. it is the fault of the Hungarians - a throw back from their communist days.

I said I'd leave this thread and did for a while. I just wanted to report someting positive but no doubt ROSENQUARTZ and POGs will find some fault.
Goodbye again......

That is truly horrific. Is there a petition? Can't something be done?

Anyone think Saudi should take refugees?

whitewave Wed 16-Sept-15 20:17:37

Done. We will all be fighting over the pathetic number the Tories are letting in!

For those who think petitions do not work.

If it stands by and does nothing it doesn't deserve to exist in my opinion. Nothing can excuse a child/ baby being harmed in this way. We should have learned this much 70odd years ago. I cannot express how disgusted and horror struck I am.

Eloethan Wed 16-Sept-15 19:30:47

I've just seen on Channel 4 News men, women and young children being attacked and sprayed at close quarters with tear gas in Hungary. What is the EU going to do about this disgraceful, and increasingly racist, behaviour?

whitewave Wed 16-Sept-15 18:34:19

I think this is becoming a real test for the EU and its treaties relating to the Human Rights Act and all the other treaties relating to this. How will it be remembered when we come to vote?
So much for a Union (should be underlined)

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Sept-15 18:10:31

OMG!!! (*whitewave*) angry

rosequartz Wed 16-Sept-15 18:09:29

What, where?
Oh no

merlotgran Wed 16-Sept-15 18:06:30

Terrible scenes on the News tonight. Those poor children sad

whitewave Wed 16-Sept-15 18:03:02

Where are we going as human beings? Just watched a baby being tear gassed

Tegan Wed 16-Sept-15 12:00:50

I'd heard that Welshwife. I heard as well that members of his family were flown out of the US very quickly after 9/11 [back to Saudi] but that could be a memory lapse on my part.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 15-Sept-15 22:47:44

I don't know what the hmm was there for. I was only asking. hmm

Welshwife Tue 15-Sept-15 22:13:12

I thought that the Taliban and Al Qaeda sprang from the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan at the time when they were fighting the Russian invasion - the Mujaheddin - including Osama Bin Laden- were trained by the West.

petra Tue 15-Sept-15 21:22:02

And let's not forget Rwanda. Where were we then?

NfkDumpling Tue 15-Sept-15 19:41:37

Thank you Joelsnan. You do not waffle. You explain things very well.

rosequartz Tue 15-Sept-15 17:14:49

Yes, oil, oil and more oil.

Unlike oil-less Zimbabweans, who no-one seemed to want to rescue.

jollyg Tue 15-Sept-15 15:16:19

Remember if you can, GWB , and his sidekick TB, GW had not much been out of US and TB, less said the better.

They did not understand Islam and were just warmongerers, and look where we are now.

The Ismailis, a sect of Shiiaism, treat men and women equally, and are led by the Aga Khan, send the girls to school, and both work the fields together.

J'snan living in, or visiting other countries, gives a different perspective.

Long time back when I was travelling in NWFP , Pakistan, a lady with her kids took pity on me as I was travelling alone and gave me bags of fruit.
I had the sense to take pix of my O/H, Kids, and they were passed all round the bus.

Modern day problem is smartphones, and social media where the trafficers
prey.

And silly posters

Joelsnan Tue 15-Sept-15 14:29:26

No Jinglebellfrocks hmm I have not, however until May I lived in the region for quite a number of years, mixed with every nationality and religious persuasion and asked questions. My Masters thesis did include understanding the culture and sensitivities of the regional population.

Tegan Tue 15-Sept-15 13:49:08

Oh yes; that is possibly correct sad...

petra Tue 15-Sept-15 13:47:26

Tegan. Could it be that they are the biggest oil producer in the world and buy an awful lot of arms from the west. Just an idea.

Tegan Tue 15-Sept-15 13:43:24

What I never understand is why Saudi Arabia can never do wrong in the eyes of the West no matter how awful their human rights record is.

Tegan Tue 15-Sept-15 13:42:17

Yes; I agree. It's actually the opposite of waffle [whatever that is!].
