We ha e a refugee radio here in Brighton run by a Syrian refugee. Brighton and Hive ouncil ha e said that they will accept 5 refugee families. How many are your cou col housing?

Next debate is whether we should bomb.

My initial thoughts are that I am instinctively against it as I am unclear what we have achieved anywhere either in the Middle East and Afghanistan. All we seem to have got out of it is the death and injury of innocents, the destruction of towns and cities together with the infrastructure, and from our point of view the radicalisation of our young Muslims, and young Muslims in the countries we have trashed has ensured a continuation of the violence both in those countries and here.

Of course there are some companies who will see it as a good profit making opportunity, the sale of arms and after, the contracts from rebuilding back up that which we destroyed. This world is so cruel.

Joelsnan, thanks for your posts they're so well informed and balanced. What would you suggest as a way forward?

Both countries I have visited many times, they are beautiful.

Jingl think of the people who left Germany in the 1930s and thought they would be safe in France or Holland. The Syrian refugees want to go somewhere they can be sure there won't be a civil war. And where they have a chance of getting a job.

Saudi Arabia's offer to build mosques all over Germany is very questionable, I do hope Germany doesn't sell itself down the river the way we have. Saudi's brand of Wahhabism will cause problems for them, just like it has here. This offer is hardly magnanimous from a state that is hard line and disgustingly intolerant towards other faiths as well as it's own Shia minority. They have done bugger all to help the refugee crisis and this offer merely comes across as a cynical ploy in obtaining an even firmer foothold in Europe.

I wonder what would be there reaction if Germany replied "That is very kind of you, but how about we build some mosques here and you build some churches in Saudi and encourage Christians to use them ?"

What is the equivalent to EFF off in arabic?

I suppose it is not long since what was Yugoslavia - Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Kosovo and others were embroiled in their own civil war - Muslims, Christians, Orthodox Christians, Catholics. It's still a sensitive region.

Erm. Sorry if I've missed something here but the only European country not mentioned at all in the 'who should take refugees' debate is Switzerland. I know its not in EU but to a fleeing refugee its a very prosperous, spacious country. Lots of wealthy people and their money take refuge there. Surely Switzerland could fit in a few refugees? Its where I would be making for....

Perhaps not mentioned because it is not a member of the EU Jane10 - was it just EU countries on the list?

This link says they are taking some, but are being restrictive over their status.

I read this month Switzerland agreed to take 3000 Syrians over 18 months and 1500 registered refugees from Italy and Greece. granjura will know more.
