Using the original cast , what tasks would the platoon take if they manned the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone,
For example would the spiv be selling his wears to those he lets through.

Where are the jobs durhamjen?

Ana Mon 24-Aug-15 18:50:38

We will now have a list of the jobs which apparently our home-grown citizens won't do, or which don't pay enough.

If the jobs are there, why are there so many unemployed?

Anya Mon 24-Aug-15 19:39:07

You said it all in your first sentence Ana

There's a story in today's i about a cancer patient's wife who is denied a visa to join him in Britain.
He is British, she is Canadian. She had to leave on Sunday, three days after he went into Hereford County hospital for bladder cancer surgery.
They wanted to retire here, and arrived in 2013, but her first application was refused on the grounds that they weren't in an affectionate relationship, despite the fact that they had been married since 1970.
They appealed and that reason was overturned. Then it was refused on insufficient income grounds, despite the fact that her part-time income took them over the threshold.
She appealed, and sent the tribunal an email to tell them of her husband's cancer, and had a reply to tell her to apply by post. The nice people from the Home Office have said she can appeal again from outside the UK.

An immigration law consultant has said that appalling decisions are being made, with people missing funerals, and one man having to cancel his wedding.

I would love to hear how people justify this.

Not going to bother. Life is full of exceptional cases and unfairness. Real answers to the mass migration problem cannot be derived from this single case.

Anniebach Tue 25-Aug-15 16:59:42

POGS, not like you to avoid a straight answer , can it be justified ? I don't think it can

Jane10 Tue 25-Aug-15 20:27:24

Anniebach- its possible that POGS has other things to do. Maybe hasn't even looked at GN today. Alternatively s/he has said his/her piece and isn't interested in responding to sniping.

Anniebach Tue 25-Aug-15 20:58:45

Jane10, I asked a perfectly straight forward question , not of you, and I asked the question approx three minutes after POGS had posted, I asked because I was interested in her views. So please but out there's a sweetie, thanks

Ana Tue 25-Aug-15 21:05:51

How rude!

Anniebach Tue 25-Aug-15 21:12:28

If I was rude Ana, I must give some credit to you, an excellent teacher .

Ana Tue 25-Aug-15 21:14:55

And sarky too! You must have had lessons from dj...hmm

Anniebach Tue 25-Aug-15 21:15:54

No, again from you and a just a few more

Anniebach Tue 25-Aug-15 21:17:29

I have made a rather big mistake, I mixed up POGS and Jan10, for this I apologise to Jane10

Ana Tue 25-Aug-15 21:17:41

What was it you said that made thatbags laugh? I see what she meant now.

Anniebach Tue 25-Aug-15 21:19:34

Can't help you on that Ana, I try to avoid unpleasant posts

etheltbags1 Tue 25-Aug-15 22:24:01

Ana Tue 25-Aug-15 22:28:06

You just said several, ethel. smile

durhamjen Tue 25-Aug-15 22:31:05

Who needs lessons from me?

Anniebach is the only one on here who says she cares about a woman who has been made to abandon her husband in a hospital because of the new immigration rules.
How very kind of you all. I hope you do not believe in karma.

Anniebach Tue 25-Aug-15 22:47:33

Yes, it's the cruelty of forcing this woman to leave her husband in hospital we should be angry about, surely the rules could be eased to allow her to be with her husband as he is treated for cancer , the women is a member of the commonwealth , wish the queen would step in in this , she goes on and on about the importance of the commonwealth. Dear God this couple need each other , it really is brutal

POGS Wed 26-Aug-15 01:39:53

Ye Gods

I made just '1' post only on this thread at. 00.45 monday

Anniebach Tues 16.59. POGS Not like you to avoid a straight answer.
Anniebach Tues 20.58. I asked 'her' 3 minutes after POGS posted
Anniebach Tues 21.17. Mixed POGS up with Jane 10. I apologise to Jane 10

Thank you Anniebach. Not sure what for, certainly not an apology .

As you were so persistent I made the post at 00.45 Monday as daughter and husband not home from hospital until 11.30pm and couldn't sleep. Didn't post much or not at all, not sure , Tuesday due to related health issues, hence posted at another ridiculous time of day wednesday as I can't sleep. Happy?

rosequartz Wed 26-Aug-15 09:47:17

Only just caught up with this - I have said before on other threads that Commonwealth citizens are being unfairly treated re visas - I believe due to new rules. No doubt someone could find a link.
This has had a knock-on effect because now British people wishing to obtain other than temporary holiday visas in countries such as Australia are having to go through a tortuous process and are more likely to be denied a visa or residency.

One wonders just what sort of brains these bureaucrats have (certainly robotic and without a jot of feeling or empathy).

vampirequeen Wed 26-Aug-15 10:20:29

They're not paid to have feelings or empathy. They're paid to hit targets or else. As the 'or else' is held over them they sometimes end up making decisions that are cruel.

The Canadian lady and her husband are easy to deal with. They don't hide where they are and have been up front about their reasons for coming to live in the UK. Send her back to Canada and you have another box ticked and another target achieved.

rosesarered Wed 26-Aug-15 16:13:48

There's always a 'jobsworth' and petty officialdom seems to abound with them.

If you dont mind me asking vampirequeen, do you know that specifically about visa/asylum/refugee/migrant situations, or are you just talking generally about those in officialdom?
