I think they will add up to nine months remaining onto the new passport. When there was the huge build up at the passport office last year you could have time added if you lived abroad but that is not a normal thing at all. Personally I would get cracking with an application or go to an office and have a four hour one. Look on the passport office website - gives all the info on there.

Yes, there are some places - Middle East is one of them - which require that you have more than 6 months validity on your passport So if yours is due to expire in under 6 months you will need to renew it before you leave the UK.

Yes you should have to pay. If your passport does not last as long as your intended stay you could end up in a right mess and find you are not allowed back in. If it needs renewing it's best to get it done ASAP.

Talk to the passport office.

You will have to renew, but I seem to remember the remaining months added to the new one.

Not quiet sure I understand.
Your passport only has 6mths before it expires?
In which case you need to purchase a new one, which is how it's always been. If your asking should we pay to renew a passport, then yes I think we should. Maybe not as much though.

I think you would have to renew the passport and pay the usual fee.
