It's not often that I say anything positive about the royal family but I am impressed that Prince William is working on the Air Ambulance. He could have stayed in his cotton wooled privileged lifestyle but he's actually doing a job that's worthwhile and really helps other people.

I don't feel motherly towards him. I just think at least he's trying to do something rather than simply wait around for his grandmother and father to die.

If it is the reinvention of the Windsors, well at least some good is coming out of this version.

Anniebach what did Andrew say on the bridge?! shock

Sorry absent. grin

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 10:13:53

What is so different Vampirequeen , they did the armed forces as did previous generations and they certainly enjoy the same lifestyles , their careers now are really spending their time on their favourite hobbies , W is doing something useful but I doubt he will have to fill in his holiday leave application as the rest will

Jingle, nothing smutty sorry , there was some stutterering over his name, your HRH or prince etc. He announced - just call me Sir, this to fellow officers , just another ordinary sailor !

merlotgran Thu 16-Jul-15 10:47:28

I think the conversation is supposed to have taken place in the ward room. Prince Andrew allegedly suggested the captain should call him Andrew and the captain replied, 'And you can call me Sir!'

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 11:25:52

Then two seperate conversations Merlotgran

I doubt Prince William is "taking a job that someone needing to support a family" could be doing! Only if they have the training - and if they do have it, they would have plenty of choice for a job. It isn't something anyone could do! I have knowledge of this, as a family member has recently retired from Air/Sea Rescue and a high level of expertise is required.
At least he's doing something useful - well done him!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:23:24

Oh yes! I remember that. Do you really believe it? Not sure I do.

I didn't expect, or hope it to be, "something smutty"! thank you very much! hmm Bloomin' cheek!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:24:08

merlot's version sounds much more believable.

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 13:33:45

Arrogant to advise his captain what to call him ,unless the captain asked him what name or title should he use - which I doubt

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:36:32

Well - if the captain or whoever it was, was stumbling over a choice of word, it would be pretty unreasonable not to help him out. hmm

For flip's sake!!! hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:37:34

Do allays pick holes in anything and everyone annie?

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:37:53

Do you always...

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 14:14:58

No more than you jingle

I am praying that the horror of his mothers death and the way it was handled by press and media, plus the deepness of grief at a tender age, in as much he understood a lot of what her life had been; that now he has a wife and two young children to bring up;
It does not weight too heavy in his heart and on his mind!

This could cause problems for Kate and children its a very differcult situ to live with!

Helmsley444 Thu 16-Jul-15 14:39:44

I think pw is more like an ordinary guy then ever a prince was in the history of England. And this has to be mostly down to his beautiful and courages mother.Just think what thats will mean for the people of this country when he in his turn will become king.A man so in touch with us ordinary joes Will no how we think and feel. Will understand the issues that effect us and our children.Pw are Dianas greatest legacy.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 15:01:20

I don't. [tonguestickyoutemoti]

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 15:01:52

That was to Annieb!

gillybob Thu 16-Jul-15 15:07:45

Oh Perleeeeeeeeeease !

It will mean nothing at all for the people of thins country Helmsley44 why should it?

Is he going to donate some of his wealth to the poor, work in a soup kitchen or homeless shelter? He and the rest of his extended family have no clue whatsoever what normality is.

merlotgran Thu 16-Jul-15 15:51:31

Sophie Wessex and Kate Middleton are the most 'common' people to have married into the Royal family and look how grand they've become.

There is no possible way William is going to become 'an ordinary guy' Nor would I want him to. He's a future king and gets treated accordingly.

BTW I haven't forgotten Fergie, I'm just not bothering to mention her.

Princess Anne's husbands don't count because she wouldn't want them to grin

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 16:26:44

I don't think the fact that W is living a more normal life than previous windsors is due to his self centred mother but more to his father who in my opinion wants his sons to be as free as possible from what he himself endured . Diana the carer of the people didn't leave one penny of her millions to a charity

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 16:28:08

Thank you jingle .

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 16:30:34

Well said gillybob , the wealth of this family increase with each generation

grannybuy Thu 16-Jul-15 22:45:13

His 'job' will increase his credibility with some people. Does his advantageous situation perhaps embarrass him, thus pushing him to 'do something'? The bottom line is,he didn't have to take it on, so I say good on him. What interested me more, during his interview, was his statement about how proud he is of Katherine re the two children etc, in spite of the fact that she has so much help compared to most of us! Nice that he mentioned it though. If only my DH had thought to say that to me when working full time, with three children and studying for a Post Graduate Certificate at the same time! He would have been repaid in spades. He'll never know!!

I cannot see at all why PW cannot or might not behave like anyone else doing an air amubulance sort of job. He is a qualified helicopter pilot. and as OGM says he has been doing rescue work from RAF valley in Angelsea for quite a while.
I would very much doubt that he would not been involved in the sort of work place banter that goes with being at a school and in the services.

However in his position he has to be far more careful than others not to do anything the media might jump on, because that is just what the media are waiting for..

He is by birth heir to the throne whether he likes it or not. Cut the guy some slack it seems he is damned whatever he tries to do.
As for taking someone elses job in Air Ambulance I doubt if there are many spare helicopter pilots around.
Ok there are big issues with "The Monarchy" as an institution but what else can the poor beggar do in his position.
