Hospital Appointment

I set the alarm clock very early as the appointment was for 9.30 and the traffic is notoriously heavy and slow on the route at that time.

Actually, I can't really be totally accurate re the appointment time. The letter stated 9.30, but but also included the instruction "Please arrive 15 minutes early (what's that all about? confused ) I was like a whirlwind, multi tasking all over the place, feed cats, make tea, drink tea, turn fish tank lights on, shower, dress and go. I didn't even have my usual post shower cup of coffee, so keen was I to get going and beat the traffic.

Trundling happily along the North Devon link road I decided to stop and get a newspaper so that I would be able to have a go at the crossword while waiting. Into petrol station, a quick £20's worth of petrol (I have found that once the tank shows just below a quarter, the remaining fuel seems to disappear at an alarming rate) grab newspaper, pay and set off again.

Making good progress, so I didn't get all stressy and would arrive in plenty of time, cool calm and collected. Which I did.

My other worry had been that there might not be room in the car park, which is often the case with later appointments, hence my request for an early morning slot. Arrived, pulled in to car park, loads of spaces, parked up. Phew! brilliant, made it with time to spare!

I thought I would have a quick look at the results from Ascot yesterday. Opened the paper, took out sport section, started to read. As I looked at the paper I started to get an inkling that something was amiss. Looked again at the paper, rummaged through my handbag for the hospital letter. Look at paper, look at letter, repeat.

The appointment was actually for tomorrow. And which department was it for? The Memory Clinic blush

Did they have to be animals, not birds? I can think of plenty of birds, but not that many animals...confused

(BTW is a penguin an animal or a bird?)

Ana Thu 18-Jun-15 22:30:19

Just googled, and it's a bird.

janerowena Thu 18-Jun-15 22:41:09

I did know it was a bird, but was just pleased to have thought of something! grin

Ana Thu 18-Jun-15 22:43:15

It was the first thing I thought of too...blush

merlotgran Thu 18-Jun-15 22:46:19

ptarmigan is a clever-dick answer but that's a bloody bird as well. hmm

DH has just come up with pipistrelle....clever bugger.

He's just added polecat. Will I get any sleep tonight?

Ana Thu 18-Jun-15 22:49:24

Ooh - polar bear! grin

(polecat got my brain working)

merlotgran Thu 18-Jun-15 22:56:55

Puma.

merlotgran Thu 18-Jun-15 22:59:30

This has taken us hours. Poor phoenix probably had about thirty seconds. grin

Pine Marten - DH again angry

merlotgran Thu 18-Jun-15 23:05:20

Pygmy Shrew. (I'm going to throttle him in a minute)

AshTree Thu 18-Jun-15 23:06:41

But birds are animals! All living creatures are animals, subdivided into mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, insects and so on. So penguins, ptarmigans et al are all allowed.

Ana Thu 18-Jun-15 23:17:49

No, that can't be true! It goes against everything I've been taught and I don't think my brain can take it....shock

Anne58 Thu 18-Jun-15 23:20:15

Thanks ladies! grin moon

durhamjen Thu 18-Jun-15 23:20:47

Just what I was going to say, Ash Tree. Birds are animals, and it makes it easier to get up to 10 of them.

Ana Thu 18-Jun-15 23:20:50

But I have googled, and you are of course right Ash Tree.

Just as well, as most of the P animals we could think of were birds grin

AshTree Thu 18-Jun-15 23:55:39

That's why I always feel a bit bemused if someone has committed a particularly vile crime against another person, and people say "they're worse than animals". Worse than? They are animals. We all are hmm

AshTree Thu 18-Jun-15 23:57:11

Ana grin. Looks as if your brain could take it after all!

Judthepud2 Fri 19-Jun-15 15:36:05

Panda.

loopylou Fri 19-Jun-15 15:57:29

Possum, puku (antelope family), platypus, potoroos (marsupial), peccary, Palm civet

(I only know some of these from D's quiz at work!)

janerowena Fri 19-Jun-15 20:55:57

I think I would have to ask if I could do 'B' instead - I have always wanted to be able to shout out 'Bongo'! grin (A sort of stripy antelope!)
