What age did you become a grandparent?

I was 55

I was 39 my eldest grandson is almost 28 , we girls started young in my family

I was 50

I was 55 when my DGD was born. I was a late starter and didn't have my DD until I was 31, and she was my first child!

59 when DGS born, oldest so far on this thread

I was 56. And then I had a wait of 7 years till the next one came along. And now two years later my third grandchild is about to be born. I sometimes wish it had happened when I was younger and in better health, but rather it happened late than not at all!

61, I was never someone who longed for a GC but, of course, now I have a DGD I am besotted.

loopylou - I think I'm the oldest so far. I was 61 when first grandchild came along.

Just seen FarNorth's post - we were both 61.

Anyone older than that? I started early at 23 but my son was in his late thirties when his first child was born.

I wasn't happy at the time my first DGS was born but with hindsight we've (all 8 of them) had the best of times while I was youngish and fit and healthy, we've been able to have lots of holidays together and I've been able to have many enjoyable experiences with them over the years and now I'll be able to enjoy seeing the next generation of GGC arrive the first of which is due next month.

58. I had my first child aged 22 so should have had my first DGC much sooner if they'd sorted themselves out!

I also was 61 and 73 when the 6th and last one was born, which is too old I feel.

I became a grandma for the first time last year at 65

71 ! Now have 3 of them.

58 had my first DS at 30, but DS2 born when I was 33 decided to become a father at 25. Now both sons have lovely little girls, the ages all seem to have been good. x

I will actually be 48 by the time baby is born.

I was 27 when I had my first child, 39 when I had my last, so could be described as a late developer!

Last year I became a great grandmother at 70.

I was old for my family traits though, two of my sisters were grandmothers at 39 and 43, and one of them became a great grandmother at 60.

Gosh.....what a wide range, from 39-71! Youngest I have known in RL was 36. I have two little DGS of just 2 and 4 months old now in my 60's and wish DS/DIL had had them sooner. It wasn't to be however, and I'm just so grateful they managed to have them. I can still kick a ball-just don't ask me to run for it!

A childhood friend's mother was 38 when became a GM, I thought that was pretty young!
