My DD and her husband have been trying for a baby for 14 months, married for a year.

They are quite young but very in love and desperate to start a family. They were (especially DD) getting miserable that it had not happened yet.

I had a phone call today telling me she is 8 weeks pregnant. So, still early days, so they want me to keep it secret. I am bursting to tell people but can't.

You lot clearly do not count.

I have just seen this thread and congratulations!

I have five grandchildren and one great grandchild and it is lovely. They are my life.

9I am pleased your DD is feeling better.I had terrible sickness in my first pregnancy but none at all with the second and they are both boys.

Hello MammaTJ. Just picked this post up. The first grandchild is so exciting but nerve wracking, especially when it is your DD. Hopefully the sickness will ease off soon and your DD begins to enjoy her pregnancy.

Have you seen the 'Babycentre' website? It is full of great info on pregnancy and early child development. You can watch the baby's development along with your DD.

By the way, I have 6 and every one is exciting and special.

Good luck and keep us all posted.

She is now 15 weeks and still sick I asked her how baby was behaving and she said 'Being good, I was only sick once yesterday'.

If she follows me with my pregnancy with her, she will be sick for another couple of weeks, have a week off, then the heartburn will start.

On the plus side, she is feeling little flutters.

She is in royal company with this dreadful sickness - I do hope it settles soon and you can all get on with looking forward to the new arrival.

Pittcity Wed 05-Aug-15 21:38:42

DD2 suffered in the same way and was given some anti sickness drugs. She has a healthy boy now.

MammaTJ Wed 05-Aug-15 21:34:32

FINALLY! have been able to announce it on FB and to everyone else and climb on to my roof and announce it!

12 weeks scan was today and all is well!

Sickness is still pretty bad but she has just enough good moments to get a bit of food and enough fluids down!

My DD was the same when expecting my DGD. She had trouble even keeping fluids down, as did Kate Duchess of Cambridge. My DD's GP was contemplating having her admitted to hospital. Fortunately it passed, bit it was horrible for her at the time, she was exhausted. Baby was born happy and healthy, subsequent pregnancies were not so bad, but they were all boys. I wonder if that has anything to do with it! grin

We have had a bit of a rocky time but she needs her mum, so it has brought us closer.

Dd1 was 20 when she made me a gran and last night I attended that baby's 18th birthday!
She went on to have 3 more and tomorrow, the 3 ( 15, 6 and 4 ) are flying off with me to Disneyland Paris. I'll let you know next week if it was wonderful or totally exhausting.
Being a grandmother can be hard work but it certainly has its rewards!!
Hold her hand, remind her what she's about to achieve and just be her kind mum.
Best wishes to all of you.

No, not a bug, we shared the food. She has been like it for a while now but today is the worst.

harrigran Fri 03-Jul-15 22:51:04

She has my sympathy, I was very sick with my first pregnancy, not just morning but after every meal.
It may be a bug though as you were eating out.

MammaTJ Fri 03-Jul-15 22:22:48

Oh my poor baby girl, she is so sick! Poor child! (ok she's 20, a grown up but still my baby).

She has just rung me sobbing, barely coherent because she cannot stop being sick. I told her to ring 111, then ring me back. She is bringing up bile, so I suspect they will want her in hospital.

We spent a lovely day together yesterday. We shared a portion of cheesy chips and still left half, then she really fancied a hot chocolate fudge cake, so we went to Weatherspoons and had a portion of that between us.

Then she brought it all back up. I know they are not ideal foods, but they were what she fancied. Today she has had toast at about 10 am.

They think she is around 8 weeks now.

Absolutely delighted for you. I still remember how I felt when our first GC was announced. I have often said that although you don't love you GC more than your DGC it is different. The writer Virginia Ironside said grandchildren are the reward you get for not throttling your children.

Judthepud2 Mon 15-Jun-15 10:26:10

MammaTJ welcome and congratulations. I have 5 with number 6 due in a few weeks. No matter how many DGCs you have, they are all so special and I agree that the love for them is almost painful it is so strong.

Hope all goes well for your DD. flowers

Grandma2213 Mon 15-Jun-15 03:04:42

I heard a quote on the radio which I think was an old Welsh proverb, " Perfect love sometimes does not come until the first grandchild". This was so true for me! My love for my own children was so tempered with money worries, discipline issues, exhaustion and single parenthood it was easy to forget that I actually loved them.
Good luck and good love MammaTJ. You have so much to look forward to.

etheltbags1 Sun 14-Jun-15 21:06:02

welcome TJ but remember the joy of grandparenthood is mixed with a lot of worry. I wouldn't have it any other way as that's the price you pay to be a gran. smile

MammaTJ Sun 14-Jun-15 19:06:04

Oh still almost 'freshbaked', lovely.

I am working on the maternity ward tomorrow. I was dreading it, thinking about my DD. Now I can enjoy the one day with little squidges in my nursing degree without feeling so sad for her.

Katek Sun 14-Jun-15 18:57:37

Congratulations !! It's just the best feeling! I have 5 dgc and the littlest one is just 19 weeks.

Falconbird Sun 14-Jun-15 12:33:48

TJ - you are a young Gran!! That's great. I was 61 when I became a Nan for the first time. Must admit I found babysitting tiring - but you have youth on your side - enjoy smile

bikergran Sun 14-Jun-15 11:53:05

welcome TJ smile

MammaTJ Sun 14-Jun-15 11:08:29

I am very young (47) so not sure about what I will be called. I am a student after all. wink

My DM and DGM always said they did what they did out of love and a Nanny gets paid, so they were Granny. My own DM has never really helped me or DSis much, although my DGM was very involved in our lives, due to Mum not being as involved as she should be!

I would love to be a hands on Grandparent, as much as DD would like.
I know DD2 and DS will love being Auntie and Uncle, so I might not even get a look in.

kittylester Sun 14-Jun-15 08:43:34

Welcome to gn and congratulations mamatj. flowers

Falconbird Sun 14-Jun-15 08:37:13

Welcome to this wonderful club MamaTJ.

I'm Nan to 3 and there's nothing like the joy of finding out you're going to be a Gran or in my case a Nan.

Congratulations. flowers

Grannyknot Sun 14-Jun-15 08:28:25

mamatj welcome. I was also (k)not a granny when I joined GN, but I am now. We have a delightful 10 month old bundle of joy in the family now - and I'm a fully fledged grandmother. It's wonderful.
