Your dream house

A beautiful farmhouse on the Isle of Wight with sea views and a private fishing lake for DH.

Oh and a couple of cottages in the grounds for the staff

No way would I want a big big house. I couldnt relax for thinking of all the cleaning. But there again, if money was no object, there would be cleaners.
But there again, I associate big houses with the cold. But money no object, means plenty of heating in every room.

I dont know where I would like the house. My kids have scattered to the wind, and move often themselves. But money means that I can fly.

So I suppose, a house nearish to an airport. Unless I have a private jet, in which case, a house near whereever private jets take off from.

You could have your own helicopter pad in the grounds of your mansion, soontobe!

Rural detached with large gardens on all sides. Triple garage for the Land Rover, urban runaround and Mondeo, greenhouse, shed. Garden to be separated into different areas that you come across as you meander around including patio, pond, grotto (think fairy grotto), rose garden.....planting to provide colour all year round. Utility/drying area (hidden).

Ground floor....

Boot room for shoes, everyday coats etc.
Kitchen/diner
Dining room
Lounge
Sun room/conservatory
Family room
Shower room and toilet

First floor...
Five ensuite bedrooms
Laundry room....upstairs so that lady/gent who does the ironing doesn't have to lug heavy clothes up the stairs

Second floor.....

One large room with 360 degree views. Small kitchen area to make tea, coffee etc. Small dumb waiter to kitchen so items/rubbish don't have to be carried up or down two floors.

Will have ladies/gents who clean the house and an ironing lady/gent. Also someone to do the heavy work in the garden.

Not that I've put a lot of thought into this

Forgot......coal fires/log burners in downstairs rooms.

There seems to be an underlying theme here.....We want STAFF.

Victorian or Edwardia vicarage with 4-5 bedrooms, large kitchen, utility/boardroom, 3 reception rooms. Standing in about 2.5-3 acres with beautiful views on the outskirts of a village.

I'm not in interested in rattling around a ten bed mansion.

I want a small-ish cottage, one floor, very old, with thick knobbly bobbly walls, large ingle nook fireplaces, and stone floors. But money being no object, I`d like underfloor heating. And I`d have to be within sight and walking/limping distance of the sea. Location? Either the west coast of Scotland (think Kintyre), or Cornwall`s Lands End peninsula.

Mine would be the house we have but with all the jobs done and all the damp cured and not at the bottom of our very steep hill and with much less garden. Maybe one more room I could have as a sewing/craft room. I would like to be in the village as the steep lane is no fun but I would still like the same neighbours.

I like our house, garden, neighbours and street. But I would like it to be in a quieter, more scenic setting. It would also be nice to do some structural changes and refurbish.

However, when I look at the way some people have to live these days I think I'm lucky to have a home.

Just big enough for two with room for family and friends to stay, south facing with a garden with trees and great views. A study, and a kitchen window that overlooks the garden. Near the ocean, or a river.

No wallpaper and no curtains (blinds will do)!

I would love to live on a narrow boat, could slowly travel around the country, and both our children are near canals, we would need a few weeks notice to get there though. Mrs. P hates the idea

That's my alternative perfect home. If I can't have my big house as previously described then I'd love narrow boat or caravan to live in permanently.

That house on Grand Designs, built by the woodman, made entirely from the natural items in the wood.

I lived on a boat for 20 years. That was my perfect home. Not far from you, Pompa, at Tollesbury.

Arts and craft- in the country. With Gertrude Jekyll garden. Paradise.

I'm coming to visit all of you.

Georgian would suit me, with underfloor heating (good shout numberplease) with wild gardens but someone to help with the organic veg patch as Him Indoors won't garden unless it involves cutting his way past an annoying bush.
Space for an arts studio for me and a tennis court for him.
A gentle stroll to a beach - or an electric bike ride away.
I want somewhere with no neighbours but room for family to come and camp in the garden once the spare bedrooms are full.

Thinking about it, if I tidied up this house I would have plenty of space for a studio in the garage and more bedroom space for visitors, and the neighbours are only on one side and aren't too bad but our 'garden' is roughly 7'x11'.

An original Arts and Crafts house in the New Forest four bedrooms all with bathrooms. Large kitchen diner with treble black Aga. Large double aspect living room with real fire, Formal dining room. Treble garage with office space above. Outhouses for garden stuff, projects etc. 2 large greenhouses. Garden office room for writing in. Tennis courts, boules and croquet. Wrap around garden/ drive that sweeps in and out. Orchard and small paddock.

I know all this because I spend my lottery win over and over on it when I cant sleep.

This one but with an access able back garden and a staircase that would take a stairlift right to the top.

I love my house! But, we could do with a new roof and daren't even get quotes!

Oh, and I'd like the carpets cleaned (again!) and the decorating redone where the children have put grubby finger prints all over it. Apart from that, I'm happy where I am.
