The most embarrasing moment of my life.......

.......happened last night. And I don't think I'll ever live it down. Seriously!

I can see that it was hilarious to those who witnessed it and can manage to laugh about it to a point, but really I just feel totally humiliated. It was in front of a large crowd of work colleagues on a celebration night out.

Please someone tell me that I'll get over it. At this pont in time I am cringing every 15 seconds and thinking of emigrating so I don't have to face them again.

HELP!

Glad you are feeling better, Sillyoldbird.

My guess is that your husband having to cover your modesty simply means helped you up so your skirt did not ride up and show your knickers smile

Sillyoldbird Wed 03-Jun-15 16:20:35

Being as you all were kind enough to comment on my hysterical rantings succeeded in making me feel better, I thought you might want to know how this all ended up?

The person whose party it was contacted me to see if we had enjoyed it it turns out he was on the dance floor and thought I had just fallen down! However, someone else had told him my husband had to "cover my modesty".

I suppose you were all right and most didn't notice - and the rest didn't care. But at least if the comment about modesty did refer to the chicken fillets, they were respectful enough to be discreet about it.

All's well that ends well. Sorry for being a drama queen, but most of all thanks for cheering me up with your daft stories and making me feel better about myself. Eternally grateful

No worries Jomarie. Just feeling a bit sensitive. It doesn't take much. To set me off

Jomarie Tue 02-Jun-15 19:34:52

Sorry sillyoldbird - as the song says "life made me that way". Hope it all works out for you. Sending you some flowers.

etheltbags1 Tue 02-Jun-15 09:38:13

silly Im thinking about you, its easy to say that you will get over it but much harder if you are the one getting over it. Time will heal, this applies to both physical ills and mental worry.flowers

Sillyoldbird Tue 02-Jun-15 06:40:19

Jomarie this is absolutlye true!!!! What is it that makes you so sceptical about it?

It was horrendous to me and being doubted makes me feel even worse. I am a born worrier, very self conscious about my appearance and a bit neurotic to be honest. I just came on here for support having googled 'embarrassing stories' and not getting much reassurance from what I saw, I thought of GN as can relate better to people of my own age.

It's worked to a certain extent. But you're right, in the grand scheme of things, it's nothing and I will just have to get over myself. I'm doing my best! smile

Jomarie Mon 01-Jun-15 23:57:12

Oops - should have made it clear that I was referring to OP! Sorry if I have inadvertently offended anyone blush

Jomarie Mon 01-Jun-15 23:55:12

Sorry - call me a "cynical old bitch" but this doesn't ring true to me. Is this a sprat to catch a mackerel? If so shame on you - if not - ah well you'll get over it in time - worse things happen at sea - read the other posts

Off to bed now ! moon

I have had one or two embarrassing moments during my 85 years on this earth and this is just one of them.

This incident that happened while attending a posh family wedding do at the Rolls Royce recreation hall...........................

I wanted to make a phone call to see if my son and d-i-l had got home safely from holiday. It was well before mobile phones came on the scene.

I asked where the phone was and was directed outside the main door to the left.

I wandered out and all I could see was another door on the left so I pushed it open to reveal about six blokes standing there relieving themselves.

I was so embarrassed I was rooted to the spot and burbled that I was SO sorry but I was looking for the phone.
I scrabbled for the door handle to get out quickly but not before I noticed one chap in a white suit as he half turned who was shaking himself vigorously saying "Would you like to make a trunk call."

Boy oh Boy! Did I feel a prize chump.

My family thought it was hilarious when I told them. More so when the chap in the white suit came and asked me to dance.

Hubby and family were in stitches when the chappie said "I wont take her near any phones."

We have all had in our lifetime a very embarrassing moment so lets be hearing about the one that still makes you blush.

Janerwena That is exactly what happened to a neighbour of mine several years ago. The doctor pretended not to notice.blush

janerowena Mon 01-Jun-15 20:30:54

It makes me clench my innards. hmm No, not an urban myth. It makes me think twice about having myself examined, even though nothing remotely like that has ever happened to me.

petallus Mon 01-Jun-15 20:25:44

janerowena i don't know why that makes me laugh.

loopylou Mon 01-Jun-15 20:18:59

OMG janer I never imagined that could happen- I dreaded my frequent gynae appointments as all too often there were medical students present blush

The Gynaecologist was an awful, gruff, staunch RC who thought women with gynae problems needed to go to confession more often and then have another baby! He refused to do a hysterectomy on me until I was so ill I needed 6 pint transfusion pre-op. Now I would report him but 30 years ago......

Gives me nightmares remembering that.

Sillyoldbird Mon 01-Jun-15 20:17:23

Oh sweet Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Janerowena that is absolutely horrendous. Sure it's not just an urban legend?
I agree though. Makes my chicken fillets sound quite tame.

janerowena Mon 01-Jun-15 19:56:23

grin

daffydil yours is BAD. grin A nurse friend told me that the most embarrassing though is when a woman is due an internal exam, and the dread and fear and embarrassment combine to cause excitement of the wrong kind, and as the doctor investigates the poor women orgasm! In the meantime, the doctors just carry on as if nothing has happened - unless they are very young they have seen it all before, apparently it's very common.

What's a couple of chicken fillets after that?

In a nightclub aged 16. Fellow I fancied like anything was there, wearing a purple mohair sweater (all the rage then). I walked up to him with a big smile and said "hi" while putting my left hand on his shoulder. We chatted for a while and I left. As I glanced back, there on his shoulder, lit up like a neon sign under the ultra violet light, were four of my false fingernails sticking heavenwards. blush

Sillyoldbird Mon 01-Jun-15 19:30:15

These stories are all absolutely brilliant. You don't know how much you've helped. Thanks so much all of you. I am feeling almost normal again

harrigran Mon 01-Jun-15 17:18:54

jingl ?
I had a wardrobe malfunction in a Butlin's swimming pool. Swam the length of the pool and stood up, bikini top promptly turned inside out and left me topless. I saw my friend's look of shock, I was 17, might have been more worrying now grin

Katek Mon 01-Jun-15 16:28:17

What's up Jings?

Envious Mon 01-Jun-15 16:23:17

Daffydil,I was getting Gyn exam once and during the exam the doctor went to sit down on the stool at my feet and missed it! grin

I was at a concert of my favourite singer, who shall be nameless--for now. And at the end of the concert, as usual , other fans, my friends and I gathered in front of the stage, to give flowers etc, but we had to kneel on the floor, so we did not get in the way. He was half way through his last song--[when a child is born--do you know who it is yet] I suddenly got awful cramp--so bad, I just screamed out loud--causing him to stop, and look down to see what the problem was !!! there were so many of us there, I could not even move a muscle, let alone get up or anything, so I had to remain in agony for the rest of the song, In so much pain by then, I needed help to get up, as my leg kept giving way.Yes, it was quite a while ago, but I remember it vividly. At least we were in the dark, and he could not see my face-I hope !!

whitewave Mon 01-Jun-15 16:08:29

What's wrong jing?

My embarrassing moment was my interview when first joining the Civil Service.

Had to travel to Southampton, and found I had put on weight when putting on chosen frock so decided to wear one of those all in ones to squeeze me in.

Train late in arriving so had to rush down to the Port to the interview. Puffed my way in and was told to dash up immediately. By this time all in one had slipped down and I looked as if I had 4 boobs. Interviewer was a rather dishy chap, but any hope I had of impressing him was totally scuppered by my extremely odd body shape.

daffydil Mon 01-Jun-15 15:26:44

Thanks Ash Tree.hmm

loopylou Mon 01-Jun-15 15:09:07

I gave a presentation at a national conference totally unaware a wire from my under wired bra had worked its way out and was poking the front of my jumper out by about 4" under one boob.
A colleague in the audience was choking trying not to laugh as she said it looked like a finger that waggled as I moved.

Even worse it was on wide screen behind me.

Hey ho! B....r all I could have done about it!

AshTree Mon 01-Jun-15 14:47:09

Nanadenise your nan's story had me crying with laughter. I had to read it out to my DH - he used to be a milkman and has come home with some funny stories over the years, but I don't think any of them could beat this one, especially her quick smart repartee! Clever lady grin.
And daffydil shockshock - dare I say your story made me nearly wet myself? Sorry grin
