Just tried to lock the garage with my front door key and open the front door with my car key - I'm beginning to think I'm not safe to be out on my own!!

Bellanonna Mon 25-May-15 20:25:31

Yes I think that too annodomini. Thing is, when we're young people call us scatterbrained but once we're older it's to do with marbles, or loss of.

annodomini Mon 25-May-15 17:17:11

I console myself in the knowledge that I have, all my life, been absent-minded.

pompa Mon 25-May-15 16:31:17

Went to Argos yesterday. Card machine said pin was wrong, I have nevr forgotten my pin before, tried everything I could, started to think I was losing my marbles. Eventually gave up and went to manual counter, the guy said the card machine I was on often did that, DOH. MY PIN worked fine in his till.

I am so glad others suffer these brain fades too!! Thank you so much for the smiles (and the reassurance!)

AshTree Mon 25-May-15 11:54:38

OK, picture this: I'm putting deodorant on... I shake the can and spray under left arm... transfer can to other hand, shake then spray under right arm. The other day I found myself shaking my hand before I'd transferred the can of deodorant to it hmm grin

I remember finding a frozen tube of toothpaste and a box of teabags in the freezer when DD 'helped' with putting away the shopping. Not to mention constantly wondering what I was thawing when we had a big chest freezer (come to think of it, my chest did freeze delving around in its innards).

I often had to hastily revise lunch because some amorphous block wasn't what I thought it was!

I bought the DC some socks along with the weekly supermarket shop - this was years ago and I wasn't a senior then (just a numpty)!

I couldn't find them for quite a while, then I took some bread out of the freezer (still in the Sainsbury's bag). There were the socks, nicely frozen.

Me too jings

I spent quite a while looking for my glasses then DH said 'what's that on your nose?' blush

A couple of weeks ago I was sneaking clearing out some long hoarded books to take to a charity shop. On my way I bought two packs of fruit juice and some onions. Off to charity shop, I pulled the books out of the holdall, (as I wanted that back} and stuffed the books into several carrier bags from the car and took them in.

Two days later OH asked if we had any juice. "Oh yes! I bought some the other day! A look all round the car, the kitchen, the garage, and anywhere else I might have left them, then I twigged. hmm

I do wonder what the shop thought about two packs of juice and some onions hiding under the books in the carrier bag.

Yes! It does serve me right for being underhand. blush

Many, many years ago when my mother was alive and the car driver, we parked in a large multi storey car park and on return had no idea what floor we had parked on. We had been chatting so much we did not notice.

We went to the top and slowly made our way down, going round and round each floor until we eventually found our car. I have always been so careful since then.

grin jings

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 24-May-15 18:51:10

I put my glasses on the other day, to look for my glasses. shock

annodomini Sun 24-May-15 18:24:34

I might have confessed this before, but there was an occasion when I set out to make cous cous and only discovered, when I tried to eat it, that I had used oatmeal. shock

loopylou Sun 24-May-15 17:40:33

I confess the air was blue after a pint of carefully cooked cream and milk sauce-base disappeared down the plug hole........and I was left with the peppercorns and bay leaves hmm

Od thing was I didn't actually stop pouring immediately, just like your mother Ashtree, sheer disbelief I reckon!

Luckily I didn't chuck the peeled potatoes in the compost bin!

AshTree Sun 24-May-15 16:57:09

Jomarie I'm so glad I was able to lift your spirits. I must admit that after nearly 30 years this story can still make me laugh out loud. The look on her face! And she was as convulsed with laughter as the rest of us. It really was hilarious grin.
Loopylou the peelings in the pan, hahaha! I laughed out loud at that too! Clearly you would have got on well with my mother gringrin

Bellanonna Sun 24-May-15 16:56:32

AshTree and loopylou. I can't stop laughing!!

loopylou Sun 24-May-15 16:31:20

Ashtree I've just made a fish pie .....with a variation on the recipe because when straining the milk used to cook the fish I omitted to catch the liquid in a jug.....it went straight down the sink. And that was seconds after carefully reading the recipe hmm

That was after peeling the potatoes and putting the peel in the pan of boiling water......clearly I need locking up!

pompa Sun 24-May-15 16:21:36

I keep trying to open the dishwasher to put plates etc in, shame I removed the dishwasher a week ago because we are having a new floor laid. hmm

Jomarie Sun 24-May-15 15:55:54

Oh AshTree - thank you so very much for your post - I am literally crying with laughter !!! Felt very miserable this afternoon a bit sorry for myself so went on Gransnet to cheer myself up and it's worked - your post was the best tonic - thanks again. smile smile

MariClaire Sun 24-May-15 07:10:21

What a relief I'm not alone grin. I recently came home from a trip to open a parcel of beautiful slacks from one of my shops. I don't need any black slacks. As I was working myself up to a "this isn't funny anymore" state (sound familiar anyone?) I tried on the slacks, and became even more alarmed by their unusually large size and high cost!! Fortunately, it quickly dawned on me to check the addressee. Not me. But, a very (laughably) close call nonetheless blush

Envious Sun 24-May-15 02:29:36

I've reached to take my glasses off when they already were! blush

ninathenana Sun 24-May-15 01:51:22

My built in fridge/freezer is next to a larder cupboard the same size. I very often open the f/f instead of the larder or the other way round.

Those of you that point the phone at the TV, do you try and answer the remote ? My mum used too smile

AshTree Sat 23-May-15 23:22:15

Many years ago while staying at my mother's house with the DC one summer, she was preparing dinner - she took the saucepan of potatoes off the hob, opened the cutlery drawer and strained the potatoes into the drawer. She realised almost immediately but couldn't seem to stop doing it amid the convulsed laughter of all of us in the room.

AshTree Sat 23-May-15 23:17:48

I tapped the edge of a page in a book the other day expecting it to go to the next page as it does on the Kindle hmm

Bellanonna Sat 23-May-15 20:36:03

Such reassuring posts. I've done most of those things. A common one is pointing the car key at the front door then hoping the neighbours didn't notice. I have often tried to "break into" another car in sainsburys car park, not even the same make as mine, and as for using the phone to switch channels..... a common occurrence. All those incidents have slightly worried me at the time but I feel a bit better about them now. My OH has also asked why I have reading glasses on my head and on my face. Well,I didn't know why either.
