Delighted to hear that soop had a perfect day. Rory will not be agreeing that his days left behind and totally neglected (his view) were as perfect.

soop is now on her way home. She'll be stopping over at Carlisle tonight, then home to His Majesty The Cat Rory tomorrow.

She has had a splendiferous time with family, as I'm sure has MacSporran.

Rory will turn his back, not having had such treatment for a few months! Glad to hear that they are on their way home- a safe journey tomorrow.

Glad to hear that our soop and MacS have had such a lovely time. I can't wait to see how glamourous she looked in our outfit.

As we are on holiday I cooked tonight, Mrs P said it was delicious, now I'm worried that she has lost her sense of taste

Who said that? Can't be pompa he's promised no GN on holiday . As he's not here he won't be able to scoff sample my latest fruit cake so plenty for everyone

He can probably smell a freshly baked fruitcake from 600 miles away!

pompa you cannot go far wrong with a boiled egg! I hope that the weather is fine for you-have a rest if that is possible.

It's supposed to be glorious weather here next week, pompa so I hope you get some of it there, too.

Chicken pasty & mushy peas

Not that exciting, pasty from chill cabinet, peas from a tin (best we could find in village store). Would have gone to pub, but weather here is for hunkering/battening down.

How long have you got left on holiday pomp only the weather is going to get better they say from mid-week onwards.

We are here until Monday next week. Getting very rough atm. due to last about another 4 hours.

I made mashed potatoes as delicious and smooth as those ones we had on Burns' Night. Had a large filling replaced this morning and I was under instructions not to bite on it today so it had to be soft food for dinner (baked sea bass, sooper-dooper mash, and mixed veg cut small). I'm dead chuffed about my mash.

The secret was adding some extra thick cream that I had left over. Yumtastic as well as smoothtastic and, just in case the kind of potato one uses makes a difference, they were British Maris Pipers which, the bag said, are good for making wedges. They are clearly good for mash too

They are a good all-round potato, I often use them. they do make lovely mash. I love cream in my mash, but DBH frowns upon it. He is very Spartan and likes his made from baked potatoes, scooped out and just roughed up a little with some salt.

I like loads of butter, salt pepper and milk or cream in mine! When I make it, at least a tbsp never makes it to the table. I wish I had some now. I've just had a very healthy salad.

Mustard in mashed potato is very tasty, especially with sausages.

So is horseradish sauce stirred into mash and served with beef sausages.
