Thatbags if opposition is not voiced at the 'ideas' stage of policy making/ proposals it is often too late to modify them before it is enshrined in law! Awareness raising by the 'opposition' to an idea is surely one of the better aspects of free speech?

Penstemmon Thu 14-May-15 21:19:32

Maybe we should try a truce and stop using emotive words like 'loony lefties' 'Rabid right' 'moaning and whingeing losers' 'smug and arrogant tories' etc. This might help a real debate ...just a suggestion.....

Thanks. Heading to other thread.

Ana Thu 14-May-15 21:11:58

There's a thread about this already, thatbaags.

While we pay a licence fee, it can be called "Your BBC". If it becomnes government funded we won't be able to hold them to task about how they use the money. In other words, it won't be independent. It will belong to the government.

Penstemmon Thu 14-May-15 21:11:21

Thatbags I am aware that there is a strong governmental move to reduce the independence of the BBC by removing / reducing the licence fee and therefore pushing them towards funding from private sponsors. I think that this is likely to be what those who prefer a non-influential funding approach are trying to save the BBC from.
I for one would not like to see a Rupert Murdoch BBC!

thatbags Thu 14-May-15 20:58:54

The new culture minister has apparently muttered about the sustainability of the BBC licence fee in 20-50 years' time. There's already a petition on avaaz getting signatures.

First of all I don't understand what the petition is about. Save the BBC! From what? What definite proposals have been made? Until I understand this better it's being added to my "Did you think about that first?" list because it seems to me people are signing the petition to save the BBC from some vague and so far ethereal threat that might not even be a threat when (and if) it materialises.

This, to me, has the appearance, at the moment, of people jumping on a bandwagon.

Can anyone explain further, please?

loopylou Thu 14-May-15 20:44:47

That's putting it mildly Ana !

Ana Thu 14-May-15 20:42:06

Lets not pretend you're a stranger to rude and insulting posts, GT.

Honestly, the hypocrisy of some posters beggars belief!

rosequartz Thu 14-May-15 20:41:54

Well, nothing has been deleted.
Presumably they are all being monitored.
Freedom of speech and all that.

Definitely moon now

loopylou Thu 14-May-15 20:39:09

Utterly confused

GrannyTwice Thu 14-May-15 20:35:13

Elegran - I think mollies and loopys post went a bit further than that quite frankly. not that it will make the slightest bit of difference

rosequartz Thu 14-May-15 20:27:54

I am coming back as Cleopatra.

(Doesn't everyone when they are reincarnated?)

GrannyTwice Thu 14-May-15 20:27:02

Rosequartz - it was for rosesarered - will call you rq in future are rar for the other one

rosequartz Thu 14-May-15 20:17:20

Oh, I thought you were explaining to me why I got a nasty post from someone else which I am sure is a case of mistaken identity.

I am considering reincarnation.
The only solution I feel like at the moment is wine
This is becoming too confusing for my tired brain.
Byeee

Ana Thu 14-May-15 20:17:01

x posts again - I think GNHQ does it on purpose!

Ana Thu 14-May-15 20:15:04

rose, the 'rabid articles' quotation was from Mollie65's post of 8.11 the morning, and jingl is apparently suggesting that no one needs to actually click on any links provided. I admit to being very selective myself.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-May-15 20:15:03

It was in reply to a post at 08:11:29. I am a bit behind.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-May-15 20:13:14

rosequarz I was quoting whoever said that. It might have been mollie. And offering a solution. totally confused now.

rosequartz Thu 14-May-15 20:12:15

I am having an identity crisis, must be old middle age.
I am off to have a wine to soothe my nerves.

rosequartz Thu 14-May-15 20:10:58

Why do I have to keep ducking when what I said was:

^I am with Elegran
Dwell a pause.
Wait and see.^

confused

Ana Thu 14-May-15 20:08:46

Blimey, and this is on a Chat forum...hmm

rosequartz Thu 14-May-15 20:03:36

"posting links to rabid articles in the leftist papers and blogs that lots of us do not want to read" confused
Don't click on them?
Who is that aimed at? What is going on?

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-May-15 19:56:57

I think DC and his team will put out a lot of information about why we should stay in the EU. No one will be allowed to be un-informed. Which, of course, is a good thing.
