It seems to me, soontobe, that your talents are best suited to help people in the form of sympathy, rather than advice. I think everyone on this forum is aware of the basics of Christianity, which you remind them of frequently, and is doing their best to be the kind of person you would like them to be. There are a lot of threads where people are telling of the tragedies which have happened in their lives. Perhaps your heart-felt sympathy and encouragement - without overt proselytising - would be of more help to them than the repeat of advice to love one another is on a thread about politics.

I am practising soon but I don't think I will ever reach perfection!

It's as though you are observing Gransnet and its members as an anthropologist would a previously undiscovered tribe, soontobe, but making an awful lot of assumptions, bad guesses and 'helpful' comments which aren't always welcome along the way!

Well it all depends . On a forum of mature, articulate, educated , politically aware and informed men and women, one expects to be able to speak for oneself.
I certainly don't feel I need help to do this any more than I need a Boy Scout to help me across the road!

I'm sorry, (well actually no, I'm not) but I find this totally patronising.

People posted their feelings. I am of the idea of "better out than in". I could tell from other threads, that people were genuinely upset and very concerned.

There seem to be many threads on the Election, the Election result, whether or not we are " better or worse " people depending on how we voted, proposed action by the new government , TTIP, the European Bill of Rights. Etc etc, a case of the trees obscuring the woods perhaps?
A thread on an issue in one thing, a thread inviting only negative contributions another.
So yes, I can ignore the thread, but I can also express my opinion of it (several pages on).

I can't understand why, if people are uninterested in a thread or think it's dragging out a bit, they don't just ignore it.
