Do any of you Gransnetters know much about horses? Twice in the course of a week while out walking, I have been bitten by a horse - each time when using public footpaths across fields where horses are grazing. I do nothing to upset them, in fact take no notice of them, but the first time, after passing the two horses, one of them trotted up behind me and bit me on the arm. I was wearing a padded waterproof jacket but I felt the bite. DH shooed it away, but then as we approached a stile, they both came thundering towards us again! We managed to get over as they skidded to a halt. Today, we had our usual walk along the river at the bottom of the road and there were two horses grazing on the bank on top of the raised footpath. Again, we gave them a wide berth and again one of them came up from behind and bit me on the shoulder through my fleece jacket. It then hit the side of my head with its nose and nearly knocked me off my feet. It was only DH whirling his rucksack round his head that chased them off. I've come into contact with lots of large animals while out walking, but have never experienced behaviour like it. Are they territorial or could it be that they just don't like the look of me! They don't seem to bite DH. At the entrance to the field where the first incident happened, there was a notice saying "don't feed the horses - they are on a special diet" but it didn't say anything about human flesh!

. I won't walk through a field with cattle in, especially if I have the dog with me; I've been pinned in corners by them before now.
a stile! mind you they can be awkward b*****s.
