How much are you worth ?

That's funny, janea, at the time I too didn't appreciate Roy Orbison's music - I think it was all wrapped up in my feeling that he looked 'square'. Any singer or group simply had to look hip and trendy for me to like their music. Now, I think his music was absolutely brilliant. Later, of course, my husband and I both loved the Travelling Wilbury's - fantastic mix of talent in that combo.

Funny when you think about it but Jagger and Robert Plant have always been archetypal [sp] sexy lead singers but both of them are, in a way, quite camp when they speak. Brian Jones, according to Keith Richards book, was a horrible man, especially towards women [but I agree about how gorgeous he was].

The first two LPs I bought were Manfred Mann and Georgie Fame - very bluesy. Everyone else was buying Freddie and The Dreamers and Gerry And The Pacemakers. I thought I was sooooooo cool.

Agree totally janea re Jagger, he's always had SA oozing from every pore . Paul McCartney was a pretty boy, different kind of SA, but he's lost it completely now.
The ones I always -dribbled- dreamed about was Paul Jones, lead singer with Manfred Mann, and Georgie Fame (yeh, yeh)

I agree about George Harrison. Apart from the blatant plagiarism of the Chiffon's 'He's So Fine' when he wrote My Sweet Lord, he developed a unique style of his own and was a far better musician.

It was a golden age for pop music.

Money may not bring contentment but at least you can be miserable in comfort. But seriously, no, I don't think money does bring real lasting contentment.
As for Paul McCartney, I think him and the other Beatles enriched the world with their music. I don't begrudge Paul one single penny of his fortune.

I think George was better than either Paul or John, some of the chords he used were amazing.
Paul & John had more obvious sex appeal though, depending on one's taste.

He didn't need to read music. He had heart.

I think you have to be young to write the songs they did.

I'm not sure I'd agree about Lennon & McCartney being exceptionally talented - in the later years anyway of their partnership they owed a great deal to the musicianship of George Martin who arranged their songs and made them what they were from Paul & John's raw ideas. Paul couldn't even read music.

Good post Nellymoser.None of us should inflate our own worth in the world.The truth is that not many people would be missed for their 'worth' value anyway, but we would be missed for other things, of what we mean to family and friends.That's the better thing anyway.

Paul McCartney is "filthy rich" but I think he still seems to live in the real world despite all his money. I think the term I am looking for is he is "grounded."

As for his wealth "The Beatles" created a product which sold very well, is still very enjoyable and still brings in royalties.
Lennon and McCartney were very talented musicians. Their combinations of words and music together still shine out for their quality. That group leaves a big legacy of innovation in popular music. They made people feel good which is an asset to all of us.
They got very rich because of their talent which must count for more than just being born into "old money"

What am I worth? I sometimes wonder. Never having been a big spender I will be able to leave enough to pay for my funeral and a little left for my kids. Unless I end up in a care home.

As for what I might have acheived. It's nothing remarkable or memorable I did just did my job for 40odd yrs.
I don't really feel particularly proud of anything I have ever done. Should I be or am I just having a bad day?
