How the hell old does he think I am?

I think over 60's get EXTRA points, whether on all purchases I don't know but they/we did get 10% on own brand goods until recently.

I'm confused because I thought all Boots shoppers could get an Advantage card - I know DD has one and she's nowhere near 60! So am still none the wiser about the age discount...

Obviously it depends how much stuff you buy, but it isn't a discount card.

The Superdrug card works on the same principle, I think they offered it to me. I don't usually take store cards but these two have been useful.

Yes Ana it is the Advantage card. I got it as I am old over 60, but I don't know if it's changed now.

Some of you may have heard this one before, but for the benefit of newer grans, here I go again. I was in M&S trying to buy a dressing gown for DGS. There weren't any his size so I asked an assistant. She said that if I could get someone to look on the internet for me, I could order the dressing gown there. I told her that I'd been using the internet since before she was born - probably not much of an exaggeration.

Do you mean the Advantage Card, Lona, or is it a different one? . I've never been offered any sort of discount card from Superdrug - perhaps you have to ask for it? ('I am old and demand my discount' sort of thing...)

Boots put points on a card that gives you cash off your purchases and Superdrug do the same.

I used to belong to a flying club that gave a 20% discount to OAPs. Then they realised that only one member was not an OAP.

Boots used to give a cash discount for over 60's on their own brand products, but I think now it is extra advantage points.

Sorry - not 'old age' but over 60!

I think it's connected to the Advantage Card, but the old age discounts seem to be mainly for hearing aids and eye tests...

My son's neighbour thought I was in my late 50s.

I'm in my late 60s all vanity I know but it kept me going for weeks.

What made me laugh on our night out, however, was that Mr Sleazy commented on how good the band's young singer was, did we know who she was, so I said casually 'oh yes she's my DD as well!'

When I was with ex no.1, we were staying at a holiday cottage. A man, who had been chatting to my ex the day before, came to the door and asked to speak to my father!
Ex and I were in our early 40s!

When we were still going out in the evening it was always up to me to go to the bar to order food ,buy drinks etc as DH would have forgotten what we wanted by the time he got there and one time a very noisy ,slightly merry, group of well dressed men were monopolising the bar area. One of them got into some chat with me as I was ordering a bottle of wine and told me I reminded him of his Old Gran. His mother would have been bad enough but his GRAN.He was at least 55!! I tottered away feeling 100.

And poor old DH and I had managed to get the 12,000 miles there all by ourselves too! (in fact DH and SIL were somewhere around too, but chatting somewhere quieter.)

What really gets my goat, rosequartz is the immediate assumption that your DD was taking you out. It couldn't possibly be the other way round, could it? Not once we get to a certain age. Oh no, we're not capable of running our own lives now, are we? We rely totally on the kindness of our children to 'take us out, give us a bit of a break'. Poor old things, we'd just be looking at our four walls otherwise wouldn't we? Wishing someone would come along and brighten up our day.

When I was out for the evening with DD a couple or so years ago an older chap started chatting to me when DD had gone to fetch us drinks. When DD came back he turned his attention to her (he was quite sleazy!) and said 'is this your Mum?' She said 'yes', he said 'that's nice of you to take your mum out, I take my old mum out for the evening sometimes, she's 83'.

I was about 65 he was 60 if he was a day!

You get a discount at Boots for being still alive old. The first time I got the discount, the assistant said, 'I don't suppose you're entitled to the Senior discount?' I thought that was very tactful. I look my age!
