How the hell old does he think I am?

My son's neighbour thought I was in my late 50s.

I'm in my late 60s all vanity I know but it kept me going for weeks.

Boots give a discount for us being old?!I have never got it!

And I want it!

I think it's connected to the Advantage Card, but the old age discounts seem to be mainly for hearing aids and eye tests...

Boots used to give a cash discount for over 60's on their own brand products, but I think now it is extra advantage points.

I used to belong to a flying club that gave a 20% discount to OAPs. Then they realised that only one member was not an OAP.

Boots put points on a card that gives you cash off your purchases and Superdrug do the same.

Do you mean the Advantage Card, Lona, or is it a different one? . I've never been offered any sort of discount card from Superdrug - perhaps you have to ask for it? ('I am old and demand my discount' sort of thing...)

Some of you may have heard this one before, but for the benefit of newer grans, here I go again. I was in M&S trying to buy a dressing gown for DGS. There weren't any his size so I asked an assistant. She said that if I could get someone to look on the internet for me, I could order the dressing gown there. I told her that I'd been using the internet since before she was born - probably not much of an exaggeration.

Yes Ana it is the Advantage card. I got it as I am old over 60, but I don't know if it's changed now.

The Superdrug card works on the same principle, I think they offered it to me. I don't usually take store cards but these two have been useful.

Obviously it depends how much stuff you buy, but it isn't a discount card.

I'm confused because I thought all Boots shoppers could get an Advantage card - I know DD has one and she's nowhere near 60! So am still none the wiser about the age discount...

I think over 60's get EXTRA points, whether on all purchases I don't know but they/we did get 10% on own brand goods until recently.

Since when? I've had my card since they started issuing them.

I've certainly never had 10% off Boots own products (I buy quite a lot of them, when I think about it) and they know how old I am because you have to give your dob when you apply for a card!

Anyway, not worth worrying about!

anno I had a similar experience when I went to the local M&S to buy tights for a friend just discharged from hospital. She did not want her DH to look as she did not know what he would end up buying. I could not find what she wanted, went to customer services and the assistant looked on line and said that I could ask somebody to help me do the same if I wanted to order again as she was only searching on the internet to see if the tights were in stock. I did not bother to reply.

Perhaps the sight of my white hair and walking stick put the idea in her head that I probably did not know how to use a computer and certainly did not own one.

Well, kitty I am 65. I don't think I look like an old lady but then I wouldn't would I? DH is 69 but is nice and slim, nice grey hair etc. We went to DD's for a meal on Saturday and took a taxi back home at around 11pm. The taxi driver said to me and DH 'You're out late aren't you? I bet you are normally in bed by 9'. He obviously wasn't joking. Two deflated pensioners left the taxi

I've been in and bought some things today, and asked the assistant about the Advantage card.
Over 60s get extra points on Boots own brand, I think she said I got 10 points per pound spent, instead of 4 points.

Sorry if I confused the issue, I was a bit discombobulated yesterday!

Thanks, Lona, I suppose as the points are issued to over-60s' Advantage cards automatically I've probably been getting the extra ones over the years without even knowing!

Just found an old Boots receipt - it only gives the number of points received (but that was for non-Boots products). Does it tell you when they've given you extra?

Ana, we need to look into this Boots thing more closely! I am going to ask about it the very next time I am in there.
